Looking more like a checklist these days. I want off this ride. 😭
As a kid learning about the holocaust, I never understood how people could let Nazis rise to power. But now I’m watching it happen in real time.
Buying copies of banned books is awesome, but I also want to put this out there. If anyone is in college and/or has access to peer reviewed academic journals PLEASE do the following:
Buy USB drives
Download as many articles from academic journals in the coming months as you can about topics under attack, such as gender variance, DEI, critical race theory, racism, reproductive rights, climate change, and so on. Maybe pick one or two journals and topics to focus on per month! (There may be pay walls or limits on how many you can freely download)
Keep them organized on your USB’s by topic or journal
We don’t really know what will happen, what will get erased or censored from the web, but they’re already taking websites down related to DEI and reproductive rights. We need to work together to save the research and literature that we have!
Dear My Beautiful Man's second season.
I want you to know that this fight felt right, and it hurt.
The audience thought we were past this. We thought Hira had figured out how much Kiyoi loved him, so we were slapped in the face just like Kiyoi when Hira said Kiyoi would never meet Hira's parents.
So when Kiyoi demanded Hira let him go, so he could walk out the door, I remember thinking we would have to wait until the movie for any kind of resolve.
Yet, to mine and Hira's surprise, Kiyoi was in their living room the very next morning, sleeping amongst their clothes.
So he could calmly tell Hira that he hurt his feelings and that was unacceptable. He told Hira, moving forward, what he needed from Hira. He told Hira he needed to change or he really would lose him.
Because Kiyoi knew Hira loves him, and even though he was mad as hell in the moment for a valid reason, he realized that Hira would never intentional disrespect him or hurt him.
Because he knows Hira.
And he loves Hira.
And that's how you present a heartbreaking fight in the second-to-last episode.
And I appreciate that.

I suspect somewhere along the line we collectively decided internet safety meant only avoiding sexual predators & that's one of the reasons cults and hate groups can thrive online
A holistic internet safety curriculum would be maybe 10% avoiding and dealing with sexually predatory behaviors, 40% mental health skill teaching focused on self-regulation and self-esteem, and 50% How To Spot And Avoid Manipulation (anti-scam, anti-cult, anti-misinfo, anti-advertising, etc). Hell, most of the skills you use to steer clear of harmful groups also help protect against sexual predators online!

For all the messages not to comply in advance, I think equally important is to not declare defeat, ever. Yes, this shit is fucked. Yes, it's beyond alarming. But part of the Trump playbook is doing so much, so fast, that opponents get overwhelmed. There's too much for any one person to address all of it, so I guess they just win by default. Except no, they fucking don't.
It is not the responsibility of any single person to keep up with or counter every action from the administration.
Just like last time, it's going to take thousands of people doing hundreds of thousands of difficult, boring, largely unseen, or all of the above, tasks to keep American government from going completely off the rails. Throwing up your hands and declaring that we're already off the rails and barreling straight off a cliff? Not helping.
Feel what you need to feel. Vent to your circles. But then remember: despair is as dangerous as apathy if it leads to the same end result.
I wonder if any of their names will show up in history books 50 years from now as individuals that participated in a coup
