He opened the door, seeing her sitting at the couch scrolling through her phone . He gulped & took a deep breath , “Hey” he said quietly , She looked up at him with blank eyes . “Can we talk ?” She just looked back down at her phone . “About yesterday . I …. I .. Want to .. I guess .. I was wrong .” She sighed & stood up , “I’m really not in the mood to talk” She grabbed her coat & shrugged it on. “Look , I’m really sorry for the outburst” “I’m going for a walk . Don’t wait up .” & then she was gone . When the door again opened six hours later , he shot up from his seat & heard a few thumps . He walked to the hallway & saw her flumbling with her shoes, trying to remove it . Obviously , She is drunk . “Where have you been .?” He asked . “Out” she replied . When she realised she wasn’t going to win against the shoes , She just let her head fall back on the wall and took a deep breath . “Let Me help you.” He moved towards her but she raised a hand . “You’ve done enough helping .” Then she stood up , one feet bare & askew “I’m tied of you helping me ” “Can we have this conversation when you’ve sober .?” . “No , you wanted to talk . We’ll talk now . Now is all you get ” He looked at her , looked into her eyes & saw the determination in it , But most of all , he saw the hurt that he put in there . “You are an asshole . You think that whatever you are doing to not hurt me is going to work when it won’t .! You still hurt me ! ” “I’m sorry ” He whispered . “That’s also what you’ve said last time . Aren’t you tired of apologizing .? ” He kept silent . “Well , I’m tired of hearing you apologize & I’m so tired of forgiving you .” Then comes the tears . “I’m just really tired of every thing ” She fall down to the floor & sobbed . He walked towards her , falling down to his knees in front of her . He reached for her hands & pulled her close to him . “If you want , you can rest . Just tell me . I’ll let you go . If you want .” She gripped his shirt & pull him to her . “No.. please don’t let me go.” He smiled a bit & held her “ then I won’t .”

Applying Earth Observations Data to the Real World

In our DEVELOP Program, participants work on Earth science research projects and are mentored by science advisors from within the agency and from partner agencies, and extend research results to local communities. 

This year, our partners ran the gamut from NASA centers to The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Agency (NOAA) to the University of Georgia to state and local governments. The one thing all have in common: using data from our Earth-observing satellites to inform such topics as disaster relief, preserving watershed and marshlands, working municipalities to provide health and study. The program also helps future scientists develop research and presentation skills.

Annually, the participants gather at NASA Headquarters to present their findings. From more than two dozen, we’re highlighting a cross section whose projects covered climate and invasive species in Alaska; health and air quality in Las Cruces; disaster preparation in the Philippines; and air quality in the Shenandoah Valley.

The projects demonstrate to community leaders how our science measurements and predictions can be used to address local policy issues. This year, DEVELOP features more than two dozen projects covering Earth science topics from all corners of the globe.

These projects highlight NASA Earth observation capabilities relative to environmental issues and concerns for enhanced policy and decision-making to improve life here on Earth.
