The new hyperfixation has started and now I must yap again
Being my bff is being forced to come with me to the theaters to see the live action httyd movie.
Being my bff is me forcing you to watch all other httyd content beforehand so we can talk about the differences together.
My bff has no choice in this. This is what happens when you’re my friend.
I would let s5 She-Ra do unspeakable things to me
I need that baby Monstrous Nightmare. LOOK AT IT! JUST LOOOOŒŒK!!!!
Istg all the dragon riders are neurodivergent.
Hiccup is audhd and dyspraxic.
Astrid is autistic and bipolar.
The twins have adhd.
Fishlegs is autistic.
Snotlout has... something, alright.
Something I like specifically about Hiccup’s ‘being different’ story is that it actually makes sense.
There’s the cliche of ‘I’m not like everyone else and I get bullied for it’ trope where the character tries to ‘be like everyone else.’ Than discovers that no matter what anyone thinks, they should anyways be themselves. And while that is a good message, it’s not very applicable to certain situations.
Hiccups story is a bit different and I think it works and hit harder than any of those stories.
And it’s for a specific reason.
They don’t take into account the culture of a place.
The reason hiccup is ostracized is not because he’s ’quirky and weird’ (mostly) but because he doesn’t fit the societal beauty standards of his culture. Hiccup is very much culturally a Viking. He’s just tiny. And because of that he doesn’t fit into the mold.
But he doesn’t try to fit in by becoming the strongest or by being an axe wielding master. Hiccup never tries not to be true to himself.
Hiccup never needed to fit in, the village needed to fit him if that makes sense.
Hiccups a Viking in the sense that he’s socially and culturally like them but isn’t able to follow that culture because of his stature.
The outlier of this is the fact is that Hiccup will never have the guts to kill a dragon. This is evident in the first movie as well.
His story is very similar to Luz’s from The Owl House in the sense that they never tried to be something that they weren’t. (They’re also both neurodivergent coded but most characters in both shows are so it’s less about being different because of that)
Not my best analysis but it’s very late and I’m sleep deprived.
Fuck queerbating. Your favs are canon.
I wish boobs were detachable. Because sometimes I want to look like a genderless being, other times the outfit needs boobs.
Hiccup is both the emergency contact and the emergency and I respect it
stan is the only member of the pines twins^2 to never make a deal with bill and i think he needs more credit for that.
ford makes, just, so many deals with his demon boyfriend
dipper literally trades his body to bill in sock opera
and while i will die on the hill that it was never her fault, mabel is tricked into making a deal with him for weirdmagenon.
but stan never gets tricked. the only time he comes close was when he was pretending to be ford but that was with the sole purpose of getting bill erased. never does bill get to him or twist his thoughts. for being the "dumb one" he's surprisingly rational in this was.
nobody matches bill intellectually, ford's fatal flaw is that he thought he did, and the pines family wins because they have an emotional core that bill never had (the power of sibling bonding saves the day and i love it) but ill go out on a limb and say that out of everyone, stan is the only one to match bill's street smarts.
bill's a master manipulator but stan is a professional con-artist with no respect for the law, you tell me who's coming out on top.
stan successfully faked his own death, ran a business for 30 years, taught himself some sort of advanced engineering to repair the portal, evaded local, federal and international authorities from the age of 18, and did it all without any support.
and going back to when he pretends to be ford to get bill to enter his mind, that scene makes stan the only character to ever outwit bill.
anyways this has been a stan pines appreciation post, thank you and goodnight
I LOVE the op Stoick’s ship so much YOU GUYS CANT UNDERSTAND.
It’s my absolute favorite of all httyd music. The ending with the dancing and dreaming melody?! The dramatic start?! What it represents?!
Don’t talk to me I’m listening to Stoick’s ship rn
