You don’t own fanfics. They’re inherently public domain because they aren’t your IP. Agree or disagree with AI, there are no grounds for “protection” from AI because it isn’t your IP to begin with. That’s what you chose when you chose this medium

Okay, you get an answer, because at least you took the effort to write your ask out properly, even if you are hiding behind the grey, sunglassed circle.

Do I, or any fanfic author for that matter, have any legal claims to our work? No, not really, no. (Although if someone took a fic, filed off the serial number--deleted the fandom specific elements--, and then had it published for financial gain, yeah, that would be a case.)

BUT

Fandoms are built on a social contract that says we respect each others work, the effort people put into their art. We don't steal or disrespect the work of our peers. By feeding people's fanworks to AI you both steal and disprect it, and we need to make people realize that before it's too late--before fandom falls apart, because there will be no more real, actual fanworks.

Evangelicals’ reliance on the antidemocratic aspects of the American constitutional system fits perfectly with their refusal to recognize the legitimacy of the choices and values of anyone outside the evangelical community. After all, those choices and values represent only ignorance and sin. To the extent that they can impose their religious standards on others, evangelicals are saving these people from themselves—and depriving them of their ability to corrupt evangelical children.

Google is not a source. “I found it on Google” is not a valid response. Did you make it? No? Then don’t post it.

If the artist asks you to take it down. No excuses. No argument. Take it down.

You are not a victim. You stole something without permission. If you don’t want people to be angry, then apologize and delete it the second they ask you too. They won’t be mad anymore or see you are a bad person if you just follow their wishes.

Don’t try and turn it around like the artist is the bad guy and like that gives you the right to post their stuff.

Don’t lie about it, don’t try and change the story and look for pity from others. Just delete what the artist asked you to delete.

Be a decent human being and stop taking things that don’t belong to you. Reblog the post, spread the actual artist’s post around.

If it doesn’t belong to you then don’t post it.
