Day 2: Tan Yunxian!

Tan Yunxian was born into a family of minor scholar-officials in Ming Dynasty China. Her grandmother was the daughter of a well-known doctor, and her grandfather his student; they recognized Yunxian’s talent in childhood, and both of them taught her medicine.

Ming dynasty women were generally barred from the public sphere, and male doctors were only allowed limited contact with female patients. Women like Yunxian and her grandmother worked privately, generally among friends and acquaintances, prescribing medicine and performing acupuncture and moxibustion - the latter one of Yunxian’s specialities. Yunxian married, had four children, and continued her work. She eventually compiled a book, Sayings of a Female Doctor, which discussed cases she had treated. Though she was barred from publishing it directly, one of her sons had woodblocks carved and copies made, and her writings survive to this day.

She died in 1554, at the age of 93.

However I am here to say one specific thing

It is so sad that it is so realistic that Nimona had to die (well 'die') for people to see her differently. Ultimately either you relate, or you love them enough to change yourself for them (we like to think of Ballister very positively but he benefited from both of these things), or you must make great risks and sacrifices for the mere chance for some to change. And it is very sad that this is realistic.

Trick or Treat!

today's episode of being obsessed with The Radiant Emperor: this conversation (even before the ''you don't kneel" moment) is insane for the parallels it shares with Ouyang's internal struggles. Aside from the obvious ''Why can’t you make it easier for me to hate you?/Would that I could only hate, It would be easier", it makes me want to chew on glass that Ouyang seems to never have considered forgiving Esen for (essentially) being Chaghan's son and is so taken aback by the fact that Esen considers forgiving Baoxiang simply because he loves him. Ouyang could never conceive of such notion even if what he subconsiously wants the most is to live happily ever after with Esen!

Another thing is the parallel between Ouyang being like ''oh no, Esen, why can't you see reality for what it is" several times (even if he admires that) and Esen here going ''oh no, Ouyang, why can't you imagine a different reality"... For all the poetic Ouyang waxes about Esen's naivete he doesn't share I find it sooo interesting this instance of Esen dragging Ouyang for his lack of imagination because this is ultimately what doomed him...
