If Anyone's Following Me Who Has Seen The: They Brought Dire Wolves Back Articles.

badweatherbartender

If anyone's following me who has seen the: they brought dire wolves back articles.

Please understand this is a drastic failure of scientific reporting. What they have done is impressive science, but they have not brought dire wolves back.

They found a few gene fragments that were in dire wolves and manufactured similar in wolves.

To quote a reddit thread: it's like putting a few words of hamlet in another play and claiming its hamlet.

We have put jellyfish genes in cats to make them glow: those cats are not now jellyfish.

It's impressive to be able to identify and insert the genes like that, but these are not dire wolves and, to be frank, do not even resemble current models of dire wolves.

I want to make this clear. It is an impressive scientific achievement.

But the communication here is near outright fraudulent in my opinion.

I am rather dissappointed and can already feel the numerous convos I'm gonna have to have with random people online about this.

I hate being a killjoy.

Four gifs of a juvenile colossal squid filmed in the ocean depths. Please click the video link below to hear it described by an actual scientist! I don't think I can do it justice.
All four gifs also show shrimp darting around the squid and various bits of floating marine snow.
Here's the video link once more!

This is an extremely cool milestone, even if it is a juvenile! HELLO LIL GUY!!

This is the first confirmed live observation of the colossal squid, Mesonychoteuthis hamiltoni, at depth in its natural habitat. Pilots filmed the young cephalopod at about 600m near the South Sandwich Islands as the Schmidt Ocean Institute’s remotely operated vehicle SuBastian descended through the water column on a dive aiming to discover new marine species, in partnership with Ocean Census during the #SouthSandwichIslands expedition. ©Schmidt Ocean Institute

ok i just got this thought out of nowhere but blog divers (people who scroll through a blog and reblog things that were posted YEARS AGO) are actually a super important part of the tumblr ecosystem

With people going inactive and deactivating, a lot of classic tumblr posts and also missed gems get lost because those connections get broken. Even on my own blog I forget about posts I made until I see someone in my activity reblog one of them- which then inspires me to reblog it myself because it was a good post and I want my new followers to see

do not feel bad about diving through someone's blog and reblogging shit from years ago, it keeps dashboards alive

(and if anyone has a problem with that, they can just block you or they can delete the root post ¯\_(ツ)_/¯, two things that have absolutely no effect on the grand scheme of our lives)

loving the ac twists recently usually i’m watching shows all “yes we knew that it’s a zombie you aim for the head get with the program already!”

but in ac, characters are like “ah yes we’ve obviously entered the afterlife this makes perfect sense carry on” and i’m behind the screen losing my mind “but what does this MEAN?!?”

The real reason your sapient dragon character needs a "rider":

Dragons on the wing are vulnerable to being mobbed by smaller, more agile flyers, particularly in your large rear blind spot, like a bird of prey being mobbed by crows. Having a human armed with a long spear perched on your back helps to dissuade anyone from getting any funny ideas.

Breath weapons are impressive enough on the ground, but in flight they're really only good for strafing stationary targets; trying to use your breath weapon in an aerial dogfight is a good way to get fire up your nose. A real fight calls for sterner measures – and, concomitantly, a crew to aim and reload the cannons.

In today's competitive world, it's not enough to devour a flock of sheep and call it a day if you want to keep your edge. You're accompanied at all times by a qualified personal alchemist tasked with carefully regulating your internal furnace to ensure peak performance, and sometimes you even listen to them.

No dragon of any quality would be caught dead without their valet. It's not as though you can announce your numerous long-winded titles yourself when introductions are called for, can you? You suppose next you'll be expected to pick up the spoils of your conquests yourself, like a common brigand. Perish the thought!
