i think they should let kai say fuck in ninjago monstrosity
Do you think Kai took liberties when heading to the Monastery? Do you think he stood infront of a mirror making sure he looked and acted the same before the merge happened? Do you think he cracked more jokes and laughed too hard when he was with Lloyd? Do you think he quietly mumbles the names of the people who helped him leave the realm of monsters in fear of forgetting them? Do you think the reason he talks to himself more is because its become a habit for him? Do you think he was relieved when Nya broke them out of the fear vision, and that he really was back home? Do you think he got deja vu seeing rontu and egalt? Do you think he found the nether space comforting? Do you think the reason he was so calm during everything is because he was desensitized? Do you think he's okay?
Because I don't.
One thing I like thinking about is when the running men tried to get the artifacts, they had to face like a version of themselves that vocalized all their insecurities and bad habits, then had to overcome it and stuff.
But it's not THAT that I find funny, it's the duality of each characters own trial.
Popo: had to come to terms that he has to sacrifice important things for the greater good, ex. His height, money, fame.
Miyo: Had to learn how to trust others more and not to let her overthinking get the better of her.
Kuga: Had to overcome his insecurities and feel more proud of his achievements instead of comparing them to others.
Liu: had to accept his responsibility as a leader and know to be able to make sacrifices.
Then there's these 3 đ
Lonky: didn't learn shit lmao just did what he always did, gaslight gatekeep girlboss his way to victory
Gai: What?? just?? happened?? How did that help him?? Instead, it literally made him worse. Not only did his other self basically Rationalise his insecurities and every fear he had he also gave my boy PTSD because of the red eyes. I swear this isn't doing it justice watch the episode.
Pala: he didn't have to go through anything lol. He probably just grabbed the "artifact", slept, heard the door open, left, then done
I love this show
Kai's vision in the phantasm cave was simple. Very simple. All there was was a mirror, about the same height as him, with a black stand and body. It swayed a little in the wind, the wood creaking, maybe due to age or decay. At first, he was confused. Maybe he looked around and couldn't see anything. Maybe he just shrugged and cracked a joke about missing his reflection. Besides, what's so bad about a mirror?
Then the air changed.
Maybe it grew thicker or carried something more foreboding. Deadly. Maybe the ground felt slightly rougher, jagged rock digging into his soles more evidently, harder to ignore. Maybe his skin felt itchy, like something was crawling under it.
Maybe everything suddenly became familiar.
Then he looked back at the mirror.
And it was him.
No, not him. Him. Not the Kai, who was reliable and strong, the Kai who was everything a ninja and hero should be. It was the ugly, dirty part of him. The one who gave up their morals in order to survive. The one who he'd long thrown away and pretended never existed.
The real him.
Back in his leather robes and monster fur coat, the smell of dirt thick on his form, the katana he forged with his blood sweat and tears attached to his side. Like it always was. His face was covered, his hat planted firmly on him. It was like he never left. Or it never left him. Something wet coated his arms as his reflection stared back at him, unblinking.
And maybe Kai thought, painfully, that it was over.
Then, as suddenly as it started, everything was back again.
The whiplash was strong, but years of resilience made him good at hiding those things. He quietly looked around, maybe pinched his arm, making sure he was back. For real this time.
He could hear Nya behind him, telling Lloyd that she broke out because she knew it wasn't real. And she's right. She knew Jay could never forget her, and because of that she knew her vision wasn't real, just a fake scenario made to test her.
But Kai's vision was.
It was real.
His fear wasn't becoming a monster,
It was returning to being one.

âUgh, this sucks!âÂ
Sparks crackled through the dry shrubs Kai had just added to their little campfire, the flames burning a couple inches higher and illuminating the faces of the group around him. Everyone looked exhausted, faces pale and muddy and clothes torn. They had been hit by some kind of freak storm, rain pouring down on them in buckets. And because being soaked to the bone and nearly freezing in the night cold wasnât enough, something had torn through the curtain of rain and attacked them.Â
Now they were all soaked, shivering, and injured. No one had come out unscathed.Â
Jay inched a little closer to the flames, rubbing his hands together and sighing dramatically. âThis is just great. Trapped in the wilderness, no shower, no video games??âÂ
âNo food.â Cole echoed, his legs splayed out in front of him. He had a hand on his stomach, and a longing look on his face. âWhat I wouldnât give for a bowl of Chenâs noodles right nowâŠâÂ
âDo you think of anything besides food?â Nya asked, tightening a bandage on Jayâs arm. âWeâre trapped in a cave in the wilderness, and all you can think about is Chenâs Noodles??âÂ
âWhaaat? Theyâre good!â He said defensively, eyeing the tiny ball of mystery meat Kai had put over the flames. The mass of meat that had been some kind of rabbit sluffed off a bit of something, which dropped into the flames with a wet sound. Cole grimaced, shaking his head. âBetter than whatever that isâŠâ
âHow are we all supposed to share that?â Jay complained, gesturing to it with both hands. âItâs tiny!â
âWeâll all take small bites.â Lloyd said patiently, rubbing his arms as he glanced at the mouth of the cave. Theyâd covered it with a false door made of leaves, but anything with any real power or senses would probably sniff them out regardless. He shook his head, turning his eyes back to the flames. âAny food is better than no food. Iâm sure something will come along soon.âÂ
âCole isnât allowed any bites.â Jay humphed, resting his chin on his knees.Â
âHey! I need to eat too!â Cole sat up straighter, scowling at him. âThatâs not fair.âÂ
âYouâll eat the whole thing! Iâve seen you take smaller bites than that thing has in it!âÂ
âOh, real nice, Jay! I know how to share, Iâm not gonna-âÂ
âCut it out!â Kaiâs voice echoed through the small space, hushing all of them.Â
The shout had been too loud⊠something had definitely heard.Â
For a minute, they all cowered and held their breath, listening for any sign that their position had been given away. There was the crackling of the fire, the pattering of rain on stone outside the entrance, the almost peaceful sound of the water hitting the leaves on their shield, and⊠nothing else.Â
When nothing happened, everyone relaxed.Â
âThere is no need to worry.â Zane said, his voice low and calming. âEveryone will have a fair share. There is no need to save any for me, so the rest of you can take what you need.âÂ
âIâll hunt something else later.â Kai promised, turning the meat over the fire. A bit of grease dripped off it, sparking the flames and making them jump. âI promise. Itâs just⊠not everything out here is edible.âÂ
âYouâre doing your best, Kai.â Nya said, still sitting at Jayâs side. He glanced at her through the flames, wrapping his arms around himself tighter. He wanted her to cross over to his side, wanted some comfort. More than anything, he wanted to feel her wrap her arms around him and squeeze. Nya always gave good hugs⊠but she couldnât do that for him now.Â
He had to be strong, had to put on a good face for the rest of them. He knew the most about this place, and he had to be on guard at all times if there was going to be any escape from it.Â
âWe need to think about what we know so far.â Lloyd started, sitting up a little straighter. âThis land, whatever it is⊠we need to think about all the information we have, then decide how to proceed. Itâll work out better if we have a plan before we leave this cave.âÂ
Kai scoffed, eyes focused on the fire. He stuck his hand into it, turning over the leaves and twigs. âWhat kind of plan can we have? I know the most about this place and I still donât know much. Thereâs monsters every ten feetâŠâ
âLet us bring together all of the information we have learned so far.â Zane suggested. âWe know that the land we are in is vast, perhaps triple the size of Ninjsgo city by my estimations.â
âCan you tell exactly?â Lloyd asked.Â
âUnfortunately, I cannot.â Zaneâs head dipped as he shook it. âThere is some kind of strong magical interference here, not to mention the cloud cover blocking the horizon. I cannot say how far we are from anything in these conditionsâŠâÂ
âSo, itâs big.â Cole concluded. âAnd itâs full of monsters.â
âMonsters that want to eat us.â Jay added, rubbing his wounded arm. Nya put a hand on his shoulder, scooting a little closer to him.Â
âWeâve seen how dangerous they can be. The last one nearly killed KaiâŠâÂ
Across the fire, Kai rubbed a matching wound on his own arm, one heâd patched up himself while Nya was taking care of Jay. He sat up a little straighter, boosting the fire under the food with his powers again. âIâm fine. But Jay is right. The creatures in this realm are dangerous. More than anywhere else weâve been beforeâŠâ
âWe have to be more careful.â Lloyd agreed. âWe wouldnât want to end up being some monsterâs lunch.âÂ
Cole groaned, leaning back against the cave wall. âMan⊠lunch sounds so good right now. Iâd love to go to that all-you-can-eat sushi place downtown. Unlimited noodles, two dollar potsticker plates-âÂ
âUgh, Cole! Stop it. My stomach hurts enough as it is.â Kai complained, running his hand through his hair and grabbing a fistful. âThereâs been barely anything edible around for days! I donât want to think about food.âÂ
âSorry.â Cole sounded exhausted and apologetic, crossing his arms loose over his chest. âCanât help itâŠâÂ
âAt least Iâm not defenseless.â Kai held up his hand, igniting all five fingers. The flames danced across them nimbly, jumping the spaces between and eagerly lighting the space around his face. His flames seemed brighter here, almost glittering even in the darkness of the cave. âI havenât been in a lot of places where using my powers felt like this. Itâs⊠weird.â He closed his hand, extinguishing the flames and looking back at the others. âBut good. If I had to do this without my powersâŠâ his voice trailed off, and he shut his mouth quickly. Better not jinx an already bad situation.
âWeâre all counting on you, Kai.â Nya said, her expression more serious than heâd ever seen before. Kai looked over, meeting her eyes across the fire. âWe need your help to make it back. Youâre stronger here. You can make it.âÂ
He nodded, his lips set in a firm line. He didnât need to tell her that he wasnât really feeling stronger here. Not after that last fight.Â
âItâs going to be alright.â Lloyd agreed. âWhatâs important is that we stay together. Weâll find a way to get home.âÂ
âWill we?â Jay put his arm around Nya, his eyes reflecting the flames as he stared blankly into their hopeless future. âHome seems so far away. What if we never get backâŠ?â
âWe will.â Kai assured them, hugging his legs to his chest. âI swear. Iâm going to get home. We all will.âÂ
There was a sound outside the cave, a roar that ripped through the sky and shook the ground. The cave trembled, the fire dimmed, and Kai covered his head with his arms.Â
It sounded like chaos, like a violent death made audible pouring from a monstersâs throat. The fear it instilled in him was almost instinctual. He wasnât scared, it was more than that.Â
Before this, heâd never understood what kind of a coward would choose flight over fight. To him, there was no situation too far gone. No matter what, he would keep pushing forward.Â
But this sound⊠these things screamed their terror right into his bones. The sound made his muscles tense, as if his legs might start running for him. His stomach turned, and he had the sudden heart wrenching feeling that whatever was outside, it was going to kill him. He had no chance of fighting it. Not in a million yearsâŠ
Kai gripped his sleeves as the roaring continued. He could hear the thumping of something a hundred times bigger than him stomping by their cave. Each footstep seemed to shake the earth in slow motion. Kai grabbed the ground, crawling into a corner not visible from the entrance and curling up tight. His heart was practically in his throat, the beating resonating in his ears as it became harder and harder to breathe. His chest heaved against the bandages wrapped around it, a fresh wound going sticky and hot with blood from the disruption. Kaiâs knuckles were white on his shirt sleeves, his vision restricted to his own lap, and even then, only when he could manage to see through his blurred vision. That sound, even as it faded away, practically bore down on him.Â
âStay downâ it seemed to be saying. âThere is no victory for you hereâ
When the sound stopped, Kai stayed curled into a tight ball for what felt like an hour. He couldnât get his arms and legs to stop shaking, and for some reason, they didnât seem to want to unwrap from around him either. When he finally fought the urge to cower and pried himself free of his own limbs, he noticed that his face was wet. He licked his lips, and tasted something salty.Â
His blurred vision hadnât just been from disorientation.Â
Kai took a trembling breath, then another, then another. With the cave floor cooling his knees, the master of fire slowly brought himself back to his senses. His lungs stopped burning, his heart quieted down. After ten minutes or so, he wiped his face and shakily crawled back over to the fire.
The stick holding his food had fallen into the flames. When he grabbed the end of it, it was scalding hot. It didnât hurt him at all, actually more than anything he found the prickling heat grounding, and focused on it as he dragged himself back to reality. He took a bite of the food and chewed, wiping the extra grease from his mouth with his sleeve. He had to stop shaking. He had to focus. For them.Â
He looked up across the fire at the empty space in the cave. The dimming flames illuminated the five chalk scrawlings heâd made. They were crude renditions, with lopsided heads and mismatched limbs, all staring back at him in a ghostly white. Even so, in the twisting firelight, he swore he almost saw them move.Â
âIâll get out of here. Iâll get home.â He promised, his words unconvincingly weak from the panic he was still shaking off. âI swear, Iâll make it back to you. Whatever it takes.â
