A little info post about vampires in my lore!
Embarrassing stories:
TAS: he once mentioned the whole “turned into a giant bat to hibernate/fall into a coma for a few months “ thing once. most wanted more details, and some were very skeptical even after the details. He still remembers it as some of the best sleep he’s ever had (he is a college student after all).
Ultimate: knows a scary amount about symbiote/Klyntar biology because that was his field of study at hydra (not phlebotomy or hematology, which the others find weird); which brings up the question “how did your accident happen, then?”. He doges the question every time because he’s embarrassed to admit that he didn’t do it himself (Otto did it to him as payback for his attempted backstabbing and betrayal). Therefore the rest of them come up with wild “theories” about it (both to tease him and also to get him to tell them what actually happened; this was either TAS or Midnight Son’s idea).
616: has mild claustrophobia from being held hostage in boxes/containers for indefinite periods, on multiple occasions, by bad guys. Tries his best to hide it from the others, especially Ultimate (the last couple of times where because of unethical scientists, and if that isn’t Ultimate…). Also, he modeled for a swimsuit issue and a sunscreen ad once; regrets the later but not the former.
Blood ties: has a favorite soap opera that Amanda got him into while they stayed in hotels during their cross country journey; it’s a rough expy of both ‘Dark Shadows’ and ‘The Young and The Restless’. 616 remembers the show too, but doesn’t actually recall enjoying.
Midnight Son: occasionally enjoys scented candles and meditation; the others immediately played up his enjoyment of them after hearing about it (a lot of them have a really sensitive sense of smell and just can’t stand candles anymore). Surprisingly, when no one else can verify it, Ultimate is very thoughtful about the candles and will leave him new unused ones (he can tolerate the smells and knows that they bug the others; it’s not be nice or anything…).
Movie: once admitted that he went to ‘a school for gifted children’ in upstate New York, and everyone assumed he meant Xavier’s school; some people were nicer about that others. It actually was just a regular school, but having been told about the X-men, he’s not in a hurry to correct anyone.
Work Experience:
TAS: is just a graduate student, but has taught an elective class or two; he has yet to TA for any of his professors. Had gotten job offers from Oscorp for after school, though. Not that he can still apply since his accident… Does hunting vampires across Europe with Blade count?
Ultimate: was immediately head hunted directly from college by Hydra, and has never worked anywhere else (not sure if he can work anywhere else; either because of the reference or because of disapproval from his father). Working with Octavius was supposed to be a stepping stone/ big break towards moving higher up, if he hadn’t bungled it.
616: has always been in medical research, who funded it has changed over the years, though: was self employed, was hired by the west coast Avengers, then the Fantastic Four, worked at st.Jude’s hospital for a bit, was part of Shield medical division for a bit, then was at Horizon Labs under a pseudonym, was used in research by Beyond corporation, and is currently self employed, again…
Blood ties: other that his own research, he’s never really had a job, does he qualify as a personal investigator for helping Amanda track down her parents?
Midnight Son: mostly independent research, that’s about it.
Movie: works at Horizon labs In medical research, but not anymore of course.
What else would you ask them?
You know what would be a fun isekai setup?:
Ok, so a pre-hrt trans lady gets one of those “run over by truck, but gets their heart’s desire in a new world” deals. The new world is just like her favorite video game, which is a castlevaina esq rogue like, and she gets to be the beautiful heroine right from the start! She knows how the game works so she goes right off to the castle. Unfortunately the game is actually a lot harder in person. Every time she dies, she gets mocked by the bbeg vampire lord. She dies so often that she starts to notice that he’s actually quoting other bad guys from different real world media. eventually she fights her way all the way up to his lair to confront him … only to figure out he’s also a previously isekai-ed nerd, just like her! They hit it off once he figures out that she knows his secret. But unfortunately they find out pretty fast that they actually disagree on a lot of nerd stuff… so hilarity ensues.
That all happens in the first episode. But what’s even funnier, and wouldn’t be found out until later on in the season, is that he actually knew her in middle school, and even had a crush on her at the time ! But she doesn’t remember him, because he was just a little trans-masc egg and still presented as a girl when they were in school. Also she didn’t really know what to do with girls at the time, she was very convinced she might be gay (was also an egg at the time) so didn’t pursue any.
So do they still have chemistry? Can they get over their nerdy differences? Will someone please help the poor villagers understand what’s going on?
Call it: “oops, my villain is a fellow nerd?” Or something like that?
It would be comedy, romance, and tragedy (how do you think they both got isekaied? Plus, eventually a vampire has to do what vampires have to do…)
He would have all the bats, but also, maybe an audino from martine; and possibly, probably reluctantly (cause it’s funny) a joltik from spidey
would Michael Morbius have a crobat or a golbat if he was in Pokémon world
incredibly good photo of little rats, with ancient greek particles to learn
Ok, so the results are a little skewed…
I didn’t realize people wanted him with Star Trek? Maybe the tags were the problem?
But anyways, here’s how I’ll do things to compensate:
Week 1: four chapters of a Star Trek crossover
Week 2: Danny phantom, InuYasha, Metroid, and then Pokémon Sun & Moon
and Week 3: Familiar of Zero, Bones (2005), Gravity Falls, and finally “writer’s choice”
Will anyone read these? I hope so, at least, if the people who voted could check back in that would be nice. But probably people will be sick of me posting by the end of three weeks 🤷
See you on Monday
Yeah, TAS Morbius and Felicia belong together, but the mainline comics version of either of them do not. To be honest, the thing about vampire martine is that she is completely his fault. He brought her back from the dead with the marvel equivalent of the necronomicon. He left her ass for a girl he just met during the arc where he was supposed to be helping Martine fix being a soulless vampire. Many times before this she had told him she wanted to be with him no matter what, even having a similar arc to Felicia … but the writers always like to clown on their relationship or something.
Also, let’s not forget Emil Nikos. Dude is a stand up best friend and, I’m pretty sure in at least one or two universe, quality boyfriend material! It’s just too bad that mainline Morb isn’t bisexual.
What's your opinion on morbius and felicia/blackcat being in a relationship to be honest I think that they're good for each more than morbius being with martine because when martine became a vampire she became evil and went against morbius in some or most of the morbius the living vampire comic books and so I believe that morbius and felicia/black cat are a good match for each other because felica wanted to stay by morbius side no matter what she was just scared at first but she over came that and still was in love with morbius
Empathy is a bitch
I just realized that, although I love the 2012 Dark Shadows movie, for some people that movie is their 2021 Morbius.
Reasons I like it: It’s Johnny Depp, in a vampire movie, set in the late 60s early 70s, with all the music and Johnny Depp-ing around that that would entail…
But I get what a fan of the Original Dark Shadows would see: that’s not Barnabas Collins, this tone is too cheerful, they truncated whole arcs, and some characters are missing or smooshed together!
Because that’s kind of how I feel about the Morbius movie: that’s not Michael Morbius, they’ve smooshed three different characters into one worse version of an important one, why does this taste like a diet version of the 90s comic? What is this tone?
But someone probably says: yes! Jared Leto is Jared Leto-big all over the place, and I love that Milo guy, I’d like to ship him and Michael, and ooo! Cool special effects! Boy, what a fun early 2000s comic book movie!
And I cringed, just like those poor Dark Shadows fans did. However, 3 years out from my worst ever experience with the cinema, I can’t completely find it in my heart to hate movie-character Morbius anymore. In the grand multiversal scheme of things he’s just another version of my favorite character, and he did nothing wrong but exist in a shitty movie. And I hope the Dark shadows fans eventually realized this about movie-character Barnabus too. He might not be your favorite version of the guy, but he’s still that guy. And he might become someone’s favorite.
I just thought I’d point this out because sometime in the next decade or so, they will do this again to someone else’s favorite vampire blorbo. I just know that Hollywood will. So I hope that when they do, both fandoms will there to commiserate with the new guys. Because it sucks to see your blorbos done out of character in an adaptation that overshadows their original portrayal.
But just know that that shitty adaptation will make more people interested in that character, and hopefully, they will eventually watch/read the original versions. And then you’ll have new friends!
do you have any morbius comic recs?
Thanks for asking. Morbius’ first appearance & origin was in ASM #101-102. If you want something not super emo, I’d suggest Venom: The Enemy Within, Punisher Vol. 8 #11-16, Legion of Monsters Vol. 2, & Morbius the Living Vampire Vol. 2.
If you want something that’s very 90′s, read Morbius the Living Vampire Vol. 1 & Maximum Carnage.
If you want to get deeper, there’s a reading list under the cut.
I need a story to go with this art, what a fun crossover!
