I was on a call at a crime scene near the docks of Mas Santos City. Brussel sprouts dodging my cloudcar as I flew in to the dilapidated Shack in a bad neighborhood. The little spuds just don't know how bad they have it. They just need more programs to save them from this invegetable life. Several of my fellow spuds and blue had placed a quarantine at the shed. Reporters trying to get a buck off of the freak show inside, animals! Sergeant tried to block my path.

"This is a crime scene Detective!" I became bitterly resentful.

"Somebody's got to catch that Bad Apple!"

The sergeant looked at me confused.

"But we got him 'em!"

I looked at him perplexed. I would have thought that guy had ran all the way down to the Banana Republics by now. The sergeant allowed me to follow him into the broken down squatters Palace. Upon entering the building a strong, smell of stale butter filled room. It began to smell like a movie theater on opening night. Every wall was coated with butter, the floor was filled with nearly six inches of truffle butter, twisting and sneaking through every crevice of the hard broken concrete floor. And then came the monsters masterpiece. On an old wooden table like a sacrificial alter, layed the corpses of three slain broccoli children. Each of their randomly growing branches sliced enticed into a highly organized hors d'oeuvre tray. Reminiscent of the brutality or previous Masters. Arranged silver salad bowls there green silky stocks were dipped into gallons of melted Country Crock.

The Rage of the site filled my soul and I wanted to meet creature responsible. And there he sat grinning in the corner of the room with several other officers guarding him from the rest of us. The fully mature broccoli stock tilted his head up with an evil menacing stare, and a grin that made me shudder to this very day. His green leaves unkempt, his body covered in butter and the green vegetable juices of his slain children.

All my life I had never believed in evil. But when you see it in real life changes you. It hardens your heart and makes you look at the world with a cold stare as and stairs at you with the same dark herbivore stare.

I kinda figured this is how the site actually worked. Its a little disingenuous for the tumblr staff to make claims they’ve fixed this problem. Or that others are victims of misinformation. At this point nsfw and adult are considered the same. Therefore compacting many who don’t actually post porn like me. I could gain way more exposure on a site like hentaifoundry. And post all my light stuff on DA! The crux is I’m not an oversensitive troll. Even with the content filters off I can’t find my work or any artists I like. I have to have a direct link. I can’t even use google to find them. I feel like I’m being controlled by a moral majority. A group that should not only be offended on incident. But as a par for the course. Tumblr staff have made it clear they want to police morality and political debate by doing this. Either by intentional or unintentional means. I can use my blog as a repository, nothing more. Which begs the question of whether I should pass around my wares somewhere else. Tumblr is a private corporation, this is their space. But I don’t have to play in it, I can leave.

I’ve seen many variations on this response my article, but I think you need to double-check the reality of Tumblr’s new content restrictions, because switching off Safe Mode does NOT allow you free access to all the content on Tumblr.

Yes, if you have Safe Mode switched off, you will be able to see some posts from NSFW blogs on public tags. HOWEVER, you will NOT be able to see any posts from Adult blogs (ie, blogs that have been classified as posting “substantial” amounts of adult-oriented content). The above chart from Tumblr’s content policy page illustrates this quite clearly.

Right now anyone with an Adult-rated blog has effectively been cut off from the rest of Tumblr, no matter what they are posting. The reason why you can still see some NSFW/Adult content on public tags like #porn or #gay is either because it’s coming from a NSFW-rated blog (rather than an Adult-rated blog), or because it’s coming from a blog that hasn’t yet been flagged as NSFW or Adult. Basically, Tumblr is not blocking NSFW content, it is blocking any content from Adult-rated blogs.

If your blog is rated Safe and you post NSFW or pornographic content, it will still show up in tags. (However, you will eventually end up being flagged as NSFW or Adult, because you’ve been posting NSFW content.)

If your blog is rated NSFW and you post any content at all, it will only show up in tags to users who are not in Safe Mode. This is regardless of whether you’re posting pornography, a single-word text post, or a picture of your lunch.

If your blog is rated Adult, none of your posts will ever show up in public tags, to any users at all.

The basic concept of Safe Mode has the potential to work perfectly well, in that that many users want to block out NSFW content for themselves. However, this is not what Tumblr’s new content restrictions actually do. While you do have the option of choosing to view no NSFW blogs at all, there is no way for anyone to search for any content on Adult blogs. For example, if your Tumblr has been rated Adult and you post some G-rated Disney fanart to the #Disney tag, it will not show up anywhere except on your followers’ dashboards, and that’s only if your followers are not browsing in Safe Mode.
