Stella McCartney ‘Crystal Cage Oversized Blazer’ - $5,500.00 Versace 'Crystal La Medusa Mini Bag’ - $3,490.00 Sheertex ‘Modern Diamond Sheer Rip-Resist Tights’ - $35.00 (on sale $26.00) Versace ‘Medusa Aevitas Leather Platform Boots’ - $1,023.00 (on sale $716.00)
Since 2019, Taylor has had a strong relationship with British designer Stella McCartney. So much so that the connection spawned a merch collaboration between the two for Taylor’s album Lover. To this day, Taylor has worn many pieces by Stella across her offerings (bags, shoes, outerwear, clothes). This particular blazer is from Stella’s Fall 2024 collection which debuted in March. That collection featured a lot of crystal cage embellishments, as seen here on the edge of Taylor’s blazer. As her Spring 2023 collection did, Stella’s Fall 2024 collection referenced some of her previous crystal embellished work when she was creative director at Chloé, namely her Spring 2000 collection. Angela Baidoo, for The Impression, called the collection “particularly strong” based on the smart proportions of Stella’s suiting and subtle “[inspiration] by wardrobe finds from her famous parents - Linda and Paul.” Backstage at the show, Stella had noted, “I’m always trying to bring back that perfect Savile Row suit … and construction is critical as it took 3 years just to set a sleeve, we spend hours, days, weeks, and months developing.”
Scale and tailoring are everything when it comes to suiting and this blazer is just right in the oversized department. Wide in the shoulders, but cut so as Taylor isn’t swimming in it. The juxtaposition of a “menswear” inspired piece combined with a sparkly hem feels very Taylor and “The Man” - a stylish combination of her powerful femininity. It also feels right for this time of year in the liminal space between Christmas and New Year’s when sparkly garments are a go-to for holiday attire.
The rest of the outfit also balances wintry/holiday evening date night. Note the smart way the geometric crystal motif on her blazer is picked up both in the diamond pattern of her Sheertex tights and the crystal embellishment of her Versace bag. Both are referential to keep the outfit cohesive, but not super repetitive. A chunky black Versace boot that recedes and doesn’t take up “spotlight” was also a good call.
This ‘fit? Copy + paste!
On the note of the tights, it’s fun that Taylor would bring back both pairs of Sheertex tights that she owns within back-to-back appearances. Her other pair she wore to the Chiefs vs Texans game she’s owned since 2021. This pair first debuted last December 2023.
