Whoever drew up this seating plan was fucking crazy. Twelve tables, over 120 guests, and of course, of course Harry Potter was seated right next to Draco Malfoy.
Harry thought it was a big joke. He stood in front of board, waiting for the loops of the cursive to morph into another name entirely. Until he heard a throat clearing cough behind him.
The devil himself.
And god, he looked fucking delectable. Tailored suit, huge ass, golden hair - he was straight out of a wet dream and it made Harry mad. Irrationally.
Draco smiled. Coy and calm. Wrapped a hand around Harry's bicep and squeezed a little too hard to be polite.
"A pleasure, Potter," his grin turned razor sharp. "I'll catch you at our table."
Harry could only smile back with a gentle nod. He wanted to fuck Draco so bad, he knew anything he could say would make him sound stupid.
The hand slipped slightly lower, lingering just below his elbow, before slipping to the small of his back.
Harry yelped. No, he was not proud of it.
Draco leaned in, lips barely brushing the shell of Harry's ear. So close that Harry could smell his cologne, feel the condensing of his breath on his skin. "And don't make me yawn, Potter. It's uncouth to look uninterested at a gala."
The hand slipped lower yet again, nails digging into the soft flesh of the curve of Harry's behind.
Then Draco slipped away as if they'd just been discussing the weather.
Fuck.
Harry was so, so fucked.
for some reason, I have very specific head canons about the Malfoys’ Patronuses. Lucius probably isn’t competent enough to reliably produce one (and perhaps not happy enough either) but if he could it would be a Patronus. (But his happy thought is that he’s a Malfoy TM).
Narcissa absolutely can produce one and it’s a dragon. Both because while she may seem unassuming on the outside, she’s incredibly formidable, capable and fierce and because her motivating thought is always of her son Draco.
And Draco’s Patronus is a lion. Because of drarry. Because at his lowest the thought that keeps him going and the thought that finally lets him conjure Patronus in book 7 to drive away the Dementors around the school despite everything going on is that somewhere out there Harry Potter is still alive.
I’ve always thought that, despite their outward appearances that remind people of their fathers, drarry, at their core, resemble their mothers more.
Draco was raised with the expectation that he would become a leader. Lucius even deliberately placed two sidekicks by his side to create the illusion of leadership around him. But the truth is, Draco was not a natural-born leader like Lucius. His peers never truly respected or followed him. His authority came from fear rooted in his father's power. And when Lucius fell from grace, they quickly abandoned him.
Draco is also passive at times and tends to rely on authority figures for guidance. And I believe this passivity was inherited from his mother. Narcissa was the third child, and being the youngest often makes someone more of a follower than a leader, especially with an older sister like Bellatrix, who had such a dominant personality.
Yet Narcissa possessed a strong determination beneath her passivity, which surfaced primarily when her son’s safety was at stake. This is evident when she sought Snape’s help despite her sister’s disapproval, or when she lied to Voldemort in order to search for her son. That same kind of determination is reflected in Draco as well, such as when he continued with his assigned task despite consecutive failures, because his family’s lives were at stake.
Harry resembles Lily in her sense of justice. His justice-driven instincts clearly mirror hers. For instance, when he defended Neville against Draco’s attempt to steal his Remembrall, it echoed the moment Lily confronted James for picking on Snape. She wasn’t afraid to challenge someone more popular or powerful and Harry shows that same kind of bravery, just like his mother.
However, while Harry is righteous, he often lets his friends off the hook when they do questionable things, this makes me think Lily might have been similar. Although James stopped bullying people in front of her, it's possible she would have let some things slide if she believed they were justified, especially if she thought he had changed or that his actions weren’t that bad.
James was flashy, confident, and socially dominant, while Lily was principled, passionate, and quietly powerful. Harry is his mother’s son more than his father’s. He may look like James, but his soul leans more toward Lily.
To know and not to know; to be aware of complete truthfulness while telling carefully constructed lies; to simultaneously hold two opinions which cancel out, knowing them to be contradictory while believing in both of them; to use logic against logic; to repudiate morality while laying claim to it; to believe democracy was impossible and that the Party was the guardian of democracy; to forget whatever was necessary to forget, then to draw it back into memory at the moment it was needed, then promptly forget it again; and above all, to apply the same process to the process itself—that is the ultimate subtlety: to consciously induce unconsciousness and, once again, become unconscious of the hypnosis you have just performed.
I found this poem in an old notebook and I'm a bit shocked at my own writing.

The weight of the curse is heaviest in moments when Draco catches Harry looking; his gaze a loaded, lonely thing across the High Table.
It should remind Draco of a time when they, too, were only children in this very same room—but years have softened the edges of Harry's glare, turned the devoted heat of his hatred into another, a sweeter form of passion altogether.
It's just Draco's luck that Harry is too scared to word what Draco can't—no Malfoy of his proclivity has been able to properly court, or even voice whom they desire. Not until they've produced an heir.
Threads of fate and duty woven together, always, always for the likes of him, cruel where they mark bleeding lines around his heart, as if he doesn't have enough.
Still, Draco's eyes must not lie. Nor does the returned fondness of his touch when their fingertips brush and linger over a cup of sugar. But Harry's gaze just keeps shifting between his porridge and Draco, one corner of his smile sad, and Draco wonders how he doesn't notice when he's studied his every move for years.
It's pathetic—really.
Luckily, there are things even Draco's ancestors hadn't thought of.
Because it's been years since Draco has known; it's this, him, and if Harry hadn't approached him for help, taken that potion, Draco would have rather chosen to die with the curse, with lonely nights and an empty house, for all he cared—if it wasn't with him.
The curse made it so that he couldn't have any of it—but when Harry rises from the table with his hand on his swollen stomach like he does each morning now, a tiny sprout of hope springs inside Draco, too, as if he were the one carrying their child. That in three more months—he might just get it all.
Threads are easy to weave into new shapes, after all, once something as simple as a sprinkle of chance joins your side.
