idk how many vogue edits are going around rn and how many are by black people but just so yall know it was originally a way for black people to show what it would be like for more of us to be featured on a vogue cover + to just have some fun creating stuff for us by us and i dont think the original message should be lost in the excitement
There’s absolutely no straight explanation for this …
And gosh they are beautiful <3
This time, not by the white supremacist police force, but still because of racism.
Miguel was a 5 years old little boy from Recife, son of a domestic worker, who went to work with his mother.
Yes, his mother was still working as a domestic worker during a worldwide pandemic, just as MANY other women and black folks who have not been liberated of their non essential jobs in white and rich people’s homes.
Miguel’s mother left the apartment to walk her employer’s dogs, leaving her son behind with the apartment owners. The young child was scared and started crying for his mother. Somehow, he was so terrified he went after his mother, made his way to the elevator and ended up on the 9th floor where he fell from the great height. According to the investigators of the case, the apartment owner is responsible for allowing Miguel in the elevator as she is seen doing so in surveillance cameras.
His mother’s employer didn’t talk to the child. She didn’t comfort him. She didn’t keep an eye on him and protected him from going into an elevator by himself. He was neglected because she didn’t see him as a child. But how could she, if she didn’t even see his mother as human enough?
The media is hiding the apartment owners names. They are white, rich and, apparently, involved in politics in Recife. The woman who employed Miguel’s mother was taken by the police but has paid a 20k Reais (brazilian currency) bail out. Twenty thousand Reais. And they couldn’t pay Miguel’s mother her salary to allow her to stay home during COVID-19 pandemic?
This is what structural racism does. Slavery has never ended in the Americas, it just evolved into something that is “maskable”, “acceptable” and normalized.
We need visibility. We are done seeing black folks becoming statistic numbers. It is horrifying that we had to wait for USA to revolt against racism for white rich Brazilian folks to “decide they were anti racist too” and start talking about it more on social media.

His name was Miguel, he was 5 years old. Say his name.
Justice for Miguel. Justice for João Pedro. Justice for Marielle Franco. No justice, no peace.
anonymous leaked bolsonaro’s private info including his credit card number and someone on twitter bought a whole ass macbook pro with it. yes. a person bought an macbook pro with the president’s credit card. this country really isn’t for beginners
One year ago, Evaldo Rosa was murdered by 12 military officers in Brazil. He was taking his family to a baby shower when the officers opened fire against their car. Out of the 257 bullets that were fired against them, 62 hit the driver. His wife, a friend, and his child also were inside the vehicle. When Luciano Macedo tried to help the injured singer, he was also shot and killed. The police said that the shooting started because they thought the car was stolen.
Ágatha Felix was 8 years old when the police murdered her. She was on a Kombi with her mom, and they were going to the favela Complexo do Alemão, were they lived. The car stopped to let passengers that were carpooling with them out. The police officers fired against a motorcycle, but the shot hit little Ágatha in the back. She was inside the vehicle. The police claims that they were attacked by multiple criminals and that the officers had nothing to do with the death of the girl.
João Pedro Mattos was 14 when he was murdered with a shot in the back. The federal police invaded his home already firing. One of the witnesses tried shouting at them that there were only children inside the house, and that they were already on the floor with their hands up. João Pedro, already injured, was then kidnapped from his home in a helicopter. His family only became aware of his death a day later. Hand grenades and a pistol were found in the residence, although witnesses claim that they were planted to incriminate the victims. Police says that the action was part of an operation against leaders of criminal factions, and that drug dealers opened fire against them.
“In the United States A policeman Killed a black man He couldn’t breathe In Brazil, Every 23 minutes, Our youth are executed By this state. Enough! Stop the massacres! Police are murderers!”

this is Rio de Janeiro right now. a wave of protests are about to burst out in Brazil real soon, caused by a LOT of things. police brutality is one of them but this is also about our genocidal and fascist president, jair bolsonaro. last month, being asked about the rising numbers of deaths caused by the COVID-19 (which are killing more black and poor people than whites btw) bolsonaro said: “so what? what do you want me to do?”. yeah. he is this type of bigot piece of shit.
so i’m expecting y’all to extend your empathy to the minorities from outside the US too.
if you want to know more about our politics, there’s this video (a bit outdated, but one of the best videos in english i saw on youtube about the topic), this video by vox (it’s like a complement to the past video) and i recommend watching the documentary “the edge of democracy” on Netflix.
May 18, 2020. João Pedro Mattos Pinto was murdered by the police IN HIS HOME in São Gonçalo, Rio de Janeiro. he was only 14. when the police murdered him, he was PLAYING in his own backyard. his house now has at least 72 bullet holes in it’s walls. and his mom’s heart has one giant hole, that one type that is impossible to be ever filled again.
this happened exactly a week before George Floyd’s murder. João Pedro was black too.
it doesn’t matter where you from. all cops are bastards. all of them. brazillian ones. us cops. even the ones from your country. all of them serve the same racist purposes.
João Pedro should be remembered. his life and Floyd’s matter so much.
so much respect for the protesters in Minneapolis.
Okay so I don’t have enough brain cells or expertise to fully get into this, but like…. the spop commentary on indigenous people VS colonizers + commentary on environmental protection was really cool
There was SO much Christian missionary rhetoric from Horde Prime and his super violent, mindlessly devoted, all male disciples– using phrases like “eternal light,” “made in his image,” “I know all….. I see all…..” etc. The brothers never questioned HP (except for Wrong Hordak ofc) and allowed him to use their bodies for surveillance purposes. The worlds HP destroyed were “primitive” in his eyes and he stole their treasures so that he could put them on display as trophies. His goal was to expand his empire and conquer as many cultures as he could by using brainwashing techniques, infecting their ecosystems, and snuffing out any sort of rebellion/heresy
The native people of Etheria had magic/witchcraft and showed a great appreciation for all living creatures. There was a loving relationship between the people and their environment, which literally kept them safe and strong. And the whole time, the Etherians were shown to be the heroes who were doing the right thing!!! HP was never “ambiguously” evil or given any sort of backstory to make the audience feel empathy for him. Nothing was morally grey about HP or his disgusting imperialism and environmental poisoning
she-ra and the princesses of power (2018) | revolutionary girl utena (1997)
UTENA
THAT’S UTENA ON THE COVER OF A GRAPHIC NOVEL IN THE OWL HOUSE
please, i need you ALL to go and watch Kipo and the Age of Wonderbeasts AS SOON AS POSSIBLE, ASAP because it stars a biracial teen girl, a young black girl who is a bADASS, a black teen boy and his insect friend who all go in search for the protag’s dad which ensures adventures upon adventures in a apocalyptic/dystopian world
the pacing is fantastic, there’s great character growth, the whole soundtrack is INCREDIBLE, they use the word GAY, the animals are portrayed as animals with amazing style (and their gender isn’t thrown on you in a heteronormative way i.e ‘males’ having big muscles and being huge and the ‘females’ don’t have huge cleavage who wear makeup and have long eyelashes), they show a boy swooning over another boy (both characters of color), the cast and characters are all so diverse, the animation is stunning, the actions scenes are thrilling and reel you in, it pulls on your heartstrings, and overall it’s a MASTERPIECE THAT DESERVES A SEASON 2
so....kipo and the age of wonderbeasts dropped today and it's diverse and it's aesthetically pleasing and the characters are likeable and the found family trope is done well and the animation is so pretty and ahsgagagsgshehekahehegafaffeg

I FREAKING LOVE KIPO AND THE AGE OF WONDERBEASTS.

A soundtrack that absolutely SLAPS
Kickass animation especially in action sequences
Please go watch it, it’s amazing and deserves another season
Why the hell aren’t people talking about Kipo, I beg the soundtrack SLAPS the animation SLAPS
www(.)tbs(.)co(.)jp/anime/hoshiai/special/impressions(.)html can you please translate and share this?
*just a note before the translation, I think I saw some promotion of this page as a way to talk to petition to the production committee for more Hoshiai content but from what I see it’s more like a raffle/prize draw than a ‘survey’ intended for check if people want a second season.
It’s like ‘enter for the chance to win these goods’, and you tweet about your favourite scene from the show, still it doesn’t hurt to use the hashtag and raise the show’s profile/get people talking about it so totally no loss trying!
Using the show’s Japanese hashtag #星合の空 regularly is a nice way to show people still care about the show!!

Some of you might be aware that this extraordinarly beautiful fusion is, quite obviously, visually based on Revolutionary Girl Utena. Specifically, our two main leads, Anthy and Utena.
This is incredibly interesting for two reasons. One, Rebecca Sugar has stated that Revolutionary Girl Utena was a huge influence on her. To the point where Pearl draws heavy inspiration from the title character Utena.
So the fact that her fusion with Pink Pearl resembles Anthy and Utena, draws a connection between Pink and Anthy. And, when you look at both Pearl and Pink, you can see the connection!
(WARNING: MASSIVE UTENA SPOILERS UNDER THE CUT)

she is an iconic, unexpected fusion. but as soon as i saw her on screen, i immediately recognized her design. the hair? the outfit? very clearly referenced from:
REVOLUTIONARY GIRL UTENA!! megapearl’s hair is obviously from anthy (right) and her outfit is obviously from utena (left). but as you may know, rebecca sugar has referenced RGU in steven universe several times!!! RGU has a lot of meaning to me so this is especially exciting for me to see!! it even helped me to realize how similar our pearl and pink/white’s pearl are!
our pearl is like utena. she fought because she believed it was what she had to do to reach her destiny. yet her “destiny” caused her so much hurt and she failed to realize it until much later, after things had gone sour.
pink/white’s pearl is like anthy. she was repeatedly used by others for their own gain, and simultaneously idolized these people because not doing so would result in abuse. she then adopted this mindset of idolization because it was all she knew how to do, and didn’t realize how badly it was hurting her.
ANYWAYYYS that’s my rant on SU and RGU. not sure if anyone else put two and two together but it made me extremely happy to see this!!
I always figured Yelp would be the competitive one, but looking at Maya’s promo, it seems that Bloop is the ass kicker of the relationship.
Also:
Please tell me she’s wearing that visor over her bangs.
wow I can't believe Anthy and Utena fused
she was whitewashed by white people for white people. representing white-passing biracial kids was a bug, not a feature.
When people say they support aspecs but only talk about asexuality
Consider this
Is ML misogynistic and hold double standards for the female characters? Iyo.
100%. It expects Marinette to be perfect, and punishes her when she isn’t. They punish her anyways even when she’s not wrong. This is funny considering the one who supposedly holds this burden is Adrien. 85% of what we see from Marinette is her pining over a boy or being toxically jealous. Marinette’s jealousy and her inability to confess her feelings honestly are the only repeated problems we see her try to improve on. Why??? Confessing I understand because they want to milk the whole love square for as long as they can, but the jealousy??? It receives way too much screen time, especially in comparison to her many other wonderful qualities. Is jealousy really the best repeated lesson they could come up with for Marinette? For all the girls watching the show? I don’t know any girls who are like this irl. In other words, as a girl, can’t relate.
As for the other girls in the series, I want to mainly point out the blantant girl on girl cat fights going on between Marinette, Lila, Chloe, and Kagami. Just w h y. Luka is a completely nice boy who doesn’t resent Adrien or Marinette for how they feel. Nino is a great friend who steps up for the people around him. Nathaniel is a quiet shy boy who is passionate about art. None of them are pitted with one another, and none of them have any type of heated rivalry going on. Chloe, Lila, Kagami, and even Marinette (in season 1) are all aggressive and malicious to one another, all for some boy (no offense Adrien, but you aren’t so good that all these girls should fight for you). I know exactly (0) girls who are anything like this in real life. I’m sick of all this girl on girl hate.
Jesus Christ the treatment of Kagami is just…b a d. In Riposte she seemed really cool. She was calm, collected, and badass, but we saw a more vulnerable side to her when she’s looking down at her family ring, fearing her mother’s disappointment. Great, interesting character so far. Then Frozer happened. Became super snippy, competitive, and aggressive??? I don’t know about you guys, but I saw her as serious, refined, and controlled. This was just a complete 180. She snips at Marinette to assert her dominance out of nowhere??? Now what we see of her from that point on always has something to do with staking her claim on Adrien. Great. A female who is so weirdly possesive of a boy she’s only been on (1) date with.
How about Luka? While Luka is in need of more chracter development, his attitude is just completely opposite to the venom between all the girls. He is focused on having fun with Marinette, and wooing her (and succeeds briefly ;)). When he finds out about her feelings for Adrien, does he stake his claim on Marinette? No. Make passive aggressive remarks to him? No. He’s a nice person who respects both of their feelings. He respects that Marinette likes Adrien, and even encourages her to go after him. He puts her feelings above his own.
(Adrien salt incoming) Adrien should repent for his mistakes and apologize properly. Adrien should feel bad for making Ladybug feel guilty for rejecting him. Adrien should have time in the show for self improvement. Adrien should not be some kind of pure deity who should always be listened to in every situation. He shouldn’t always be in the right, and Marinette shouldn’t always have to listen to everything he says like it’s gospel. Marinette’s emotions should be validated, just as much as his are.
A lot of what I said has already been discussed in the fandom (and probably more coherently), but I hope you see what I mean. Adrien ain’t the bees-knees. Girls shouldn’t be depicted in such a toxic way, especially over a guy. Both girls and boys should respect each other’s boundaries.
