Okay So I Saw This Post About Dark Percy (really Him Reaching His Limit And Fighting Full Strength With

Okay so I saw this post about dark percy (really him reaching his Limit and fighting full strength with everything he had) and I was imagining the potential fallout of that. Pretty bad, as you can guess.

The thing is a lot of percys strongest moments happen out of view of the olympians, especially in hoo. The hurricane atop the glacier in alaska, the poison scene in tartarus, bending the depression river and the one in the palace of nyx.

Stuff like the St Helens eruption got him washed up on an inescapable island literally removed from reality until calypso gave him the OK, the achillies curse he got tricked into losing by hera. Smaller moments, the minotaur, fighting ares, the stolen pirate ship, walking on water vs hyperion, freshwater sources, him knowing both Latin and Greek, they're more easily brushed off or at least mostly due to cunning, sword skills and sheer luck and grit.

But basically the olympians don't actually know the full extent of percys strength and divine power. They have hints - percy standing on the throne, winning against ares, his many victories - but what they aren't willing to brush aside in the heat of (an important) battle there have been pretty strong consequences for.

Heck, just look at Frank, he's no prodigy with weapons, he's polite and respectful, but his distant relation to two olympians letting him inherit shapeshifting earned him direct divine meddling and his life force tied to a hunk of half toasted firewood. Man is a honey bear with lactose intolerance and he was punished with a mythical death curse for being too strong.

If Percy's true strength came out, he would risk losing everything. His freedom, most certainly. If he wasn't straight up executed he might wind up in a Greek myth style imprisonment, the way of atlas, prometheus, calypso, or something like the myriad of ways Greek heroes met their end. Good scenario he survives a dozen curses and gets on with life with a dozen new disabilities, best case scenario he's stripped of every inch of divine power and dropped back to the mortal world, not even clear sighted. Total separation from the Greeks and Romans. Oh, annabeth would marry him either way, and his friends would hardly abandon him despite the gods wishes, but they'd hardly be able to see him, and no long range contact without the ability to IM him or vice versa.

All of that to say Percy is hiding his true strength from the gods themselves - maybe not consciously, and it's not even power he particularly wants - but if they ever find out?

It's game over.

But why is he so strong? I don't know. What I do know is that the half bloods of the books are so much stronger than the ones of myth. Used to be that divine blood would get you divine favour and a great fate whether you liked it or not. Maybe some cunning and bow skills. A spot of spell casting if you were really lucky. Achillies got his curse after he was born, Perseus had a dozen magic artifacts, orpheus had something going on but hercules is to my knowledge an outlier. Now? Everyone in camp has some special power. Flight, fire, necromancy, hypnotism, dream walking etc. However it's happening, half bloods are slowly but surely getting a lot, lot stronger every century that passes. Meta? I mean I guess. But.

What no one has done before is something that their godly parent couldn't.

Except.

Except Percy.

Except Percy, in tartarus, at his mental, emotional and physical limit, controlling poison with his mind, overpowering the goddess of poison in her home, making misery choke on misery. Feeling something in his chest crack. Doing something poseidon could not, and doing it better than the person who could.

Down there, hidden away from the gods, he evolved. For that brief moment, he did something, was something new.

And that was how the gods overthrew the titans.

And that's why they must never find out.

This is so well put. And I think it's really glossed over too, considering the first book implies that Percy triggered nature magic when he sent Gabe flying during the scene where he and Sally take the car.

Also, something about magic bending and distorting around Percy [we have seen that stuff like the mist or demigod dreams or other magic that works great with other demigods always skews around Percy]. There's more examples, and I will reblog when I remember. But this is also a point of highlight in many Percy centered fics.

Also what op is talking about is the fact that the Greeks or more specifically the Myceneans, before the Dark Ages of Greek, from at least Homeric Era to Classical Era considered Poseidon as Wanax or at least heavily associated Wanax with him, considering him the King of the Gods by the old (considered as source) myths.

So yeah, Percy is HIM cause Poseidon's basically an Eldritch horror on legs.

Something something Percy being the demigod most connected to nature. Protected from fire, breathes underwater, talks to animals, blessed by pan, shares an empathy link with the lord of the wild, awoke the earth with a drop of his blood

It's only in Percy Jackson Fandom where shipping anything other than the main couple seemingly warrants death sentence.

Every other fandom explores so many other ships as shipping between characters helps in finding out how far the depth of their relationship might go.

Personally, I have always loved the idea of what Perachel could have been if Uncle Rick had actually tried. Imagine:

Part 1

Percy staying up thinking about this mortal he accidentally ran his sword through; she looked furious and confused and long after its over he is left wondering if that's how his mother felt when she met his father. He wonders it ceaselessly at times.

Rachel living in fear of everything she sees, plagued by dreams and visions, and this guy who ran her through with a literal sword calling her a mortal and surprised she can even see the sword just straight up leaves, taking all the answers with him. Long after it's happened, all she's left with is a canvas filled with the sketches of a sea-green eyed guy.

Then fate connects them yet again because Percy needs her. It starts with his need to fulfill the quest and her need for answers, but the awe Percy must have felt at Rachel's courage through the whole quest despite the incessant quips from Annabeth. He is sorry then that he has dragged someone like her to her death and if that weren't enough they run into the Titan King and he knows that maybe he has doomed them all and Rachel, mortal and unreliable according to Annabeth , throws a hairbrush at the literal actual Kronos himself.

On the flip side, Rachel knows for sure that whatever happens with her visions she will always dream of the sea green eyed hero. The images are everywhere. Him fighting, him negotiating, leading, saving them so she draws and draws and hopes it stops.

It has been noted somewhere in the Fandom once that the only reason Rachel was attracted to Percy was because he introduced her to a whole new world as if that isn't reason enough, as if they need a reason. As if it's not happened before with The Sea God and the Queen among mortals.

It doesn't stop for either of them cause now Rachel knows there's a prophecy hanging over Percy's head, and Percy knows she will see its outcome. So they talk of anything but this, whatever they can because neither of them wants to see how it ends, for the world and for them.

Long before Blackjack crashes his hooves on Paul's Prius, he knows it's coming; the end of the world, and it's far too late to look back. He leaves Rachel there because he is never taking her on a mission again, Morpheus knows he has enough nightmares of something happening to her.

Rachel watches him leave as a prickling at the back of her head tells her one of them isn't returning and no matter how wrong it is, she wishes against all odds that it won't be him.

After that, Rachel has only her visions to keep her company. She has started seeing someone's past , it's not his, but if she tries hard enough, she sees him once or twice. She commits the visions to memory, immortalizing them in art.

Percy doesn't speak to her for a good while after that, not because he doesn't want to, he would do anything to speak to her instead of doing this but his life's already forfeit so he might as well save the world. But he doesn't need to speak to her; they talk best in their visions. When of present, they are always of her. He understands why he sees them, for it's necessary to know what she sees, for she can't tell him, but he's glad for the excuse of it. He gets to see her, and he stays sane.

Yup, she's certifiably insane when she gets in a helicopter to see him, but he needs to know.

He was quite prepared for it, his death and her possibly becoming the Oracle later on. He knew it would happen. He is glad in some part of him that he would die long before it comes to fruition, that he would die in a world where they were together.

It would be their shared tragedy, them fulfilling their destinies as he escapes the divine while she ties herself to them.

Rachel had prepared for the same. She could give up over men , she was certain she would never think of them again after Perseus Jackson dies; it would be her eternal mourning and if someone asks she might tell them that the Spirit of Delphi lost her favored hero to her own prophecy.

But Fate's far too cruel.

Rachel is euphoric. He won't die, HE WON'T DIE. He's NOT the hero. The implications don't set in until she is facing him in the Throne room of Olympus. She says the things she doesn't even mean so she can soften the blow. She sees the break in him in his eyes as they share a last glance instead of a last kiss.

It clicks for him after Luke dies a hero. The bittersweet pang of triumph and loss. Blackjack is gone, and she's taken him. He isn't nearly as furious over that as he is about what she is to do.

He doesn't know if the curse is broken for sure, and he definitely doesn't want her to be the test run. Does she not know visions of her ending up like May Castellan are what breaks him in his worst nightmares.

He is the one who sees her take the oath, as she breaks what's left of them. A moment before all things come crashing down, she looks at him, and he looks back. The Oracle of Delphi and The Savior of Olympus have roles to play and loving the other isn't written in fates or destiny but they share one last vision of a perfect kiss as they resign themselves to their fate for the rest of their life; Their destinies forever entwined but never joined.

....Part 2 pending

I don't know if you're taking story requests, but I hope you won't turn down my suggestion to write a one-part humanfanfic. Subject: Hayley Marshall is the only daughter of a poor family. When she was only 13 years old, her parents were killed because of a debt they couldn't pay, leaving her completely alone. But the situation will soon change. King Mikael's servants found the young girl sleeping on a bench outside and immediately brought her to King Mikael. This allowed Hayley to receive the necessary training and become the first female bodyguard in King Mikael's palace. From the age of 13 until he was 18, she was Lord Klaus' bodyguard. Hayley had managed to maintain her professionalism over the years, but her feelings confused her. Could it be that she has romantic feelings for Klaus, who is feared by everyone, trapped by rules, and who must soon marry a lady he does not love for the good of his people?

While I am busy with studies, I would never turn down such a kind request. Though I'm not sure it could be wrapped up in one part. But we will see.

Part 1

Hayley

He was late, Prince Klaus was late. Again. There were two rumors circulating to explain this. Either he does it purposefully to spite his father, or he really engages in a sex spree at night, leaving him exhausted in the morning. And if Hayley knew anything about him at all, she would bet it was the former. Her contract for being a bodyguard was almost at its end. With whatever money she had saved over the years; she could use that to leave for someplace else, be free, and see the world for herself. Why, then, did the thought of leaving elicit a pang of pain at every instance she thought of it. But now was not the time to be daydreaming of yet unachievable destinations.

With a long suffering sigh, she threw open the door to the prince's room. This would usually be an assured invitation for certain death but being privy to his personal life for so long a time of being his bodyguard had earned her some privileges and Klaus had no business telling her when to walk in his chambers if he counted on her to do the protecting.....

The thought vanished as soon as it spurred by the sight she just walked in on. Klaus, half-naked, clad in a towel, his hair partially drenched. Yes, she had seen this sight before, yes she should have been used to it but was she? She will be damned if she said yes. There was something alluring about him, even when countless people deemed him the personification of darkness. "After all, one must never mistake the allure of darkness. Even the purest hearts are drawn to it." It was something Klaus used to spout from all those philosophy texts he read just to criticise the writers on their limited understanding of human emotions.

"What's the matter little wolf? It's nothing you haven't seen before." A lopsided smile with those stunning blue eyes sparkling in mischief motivated Hayley to look away, her face heating in embarrassment for spacing out while staring at him and also due to the sight of his....

What in the devil's name was wrong with her?She was his bodyguard, not one of the flirtatious maids in the castle that swooned at the sight of him despite fearing him. Not one to lose, she quipped back equally as fast: " Not new but definitely soon to be extinct if you choose to while around and make us late for the fifth time this week to the King's daily briefings."

The sparkle in his eyes snuffed out at the mention of the King. A colder tone overtook his next response, "Yes, yes the ever important briefings from my father which are but his ruse to bare my inability to rule to the lot of his ministers and rub it in my face every other chance he gets. While I would love nothing more than to meet a swift end and be rid of these by all means let us hurry."

"Why are you yelling at me? Listen here Klaus, it's one thing to be furious at your father and entirely another to take it out on me. It's my job to do what King Mikael asks of me and I will not be made to deal with your temper tantrums." What an infuriating bastard Klaus was but she understood. With how much Mikael controlled his life, these little ways were his only means of rebellion, something his father couldn't punish him for since the meetings were public.

Klaus

He didn't like taking his anger out on Hayley, but usually it was too late by the time he was done with it. It's infuriating how she keeps drawing the line between them, keeping up that flimsy facade of professionalism. Despite all the years they have spent together, she so readily dismisses it as her job. He could still remember the first time they met:

"Boy, this is Hayley. She will be your bodyguard. No questions asked, boy. Learn a thing or two about fighting from the girl Niklaus. It just might elevate you to that of a soldier's level of expertise in fighting. " He had decided he would loathe the girl. No servant of his father was an ally of his. And a woman, no a girl, would protect him. It enraged him beyond any sense that he Klaus Mikaelson, the only heir of the warrior Dynasty, was being looked down upon by not only his father but not he had added some girl to the list. "You, I don't care what your name is, I do not require your services. You and I shall spar, and when I emerge victorious, you shall relay this to my father and have your services offered elsewhere."

He hadn't looked at her properly before but she certainly had a unique appearance. Brunette hair and eyes like nothing Klaus had ever seen. Hazel green. There was a spark of fury and resolve when he declared his challenge, and to his astonishment, the girl had the audacity to roll her eyes. "If, Prince, if. " And no one had ever made his title sound so much like an insult before. If he wanted to prove his father wring before, now he wanted the girl humiliated. How dare she assume such a tone with him.

So spar they did. And Klaus had never in his entire life proven so wrong. She fought with so much ferocity that it reminded him of a wolf cub he had taken in when he found it injured and had raised it into a wolf only for his father to butcher it. There was no clear winner, but Klaus might as well admit he had lost, given how exhausted he looked compared to her. "Ugh, were you in military training, too? Why the hell do you need a bodyguard if you fight this well? The king is nuts." He shut her mouth by slamming his hand over it. Did she have a death wish, and did she just call his father nuts? "Don't say that in open little wolf." She had taken such offense to that nickname, but he had an inch or two over her in height and was definitely more built. He would find out in passing years that the vpw he had made of loathing her would turn out to be impossible to uphold. Even then, and especially now. So as they both headed towards his father's court, he muttered in a voice only Hayley could hear, "Sorry, little wolf. Bad morning. I will make it up to you later." And for all her claims of hating that nickname, he could swear he saw her smile.

Hayley

By the time we greeted the King, all the Council members had settled themselves. There were more so than usual. What the hell was going on? She excused herself to her reserved position near Klaus's seat when King Mikael's booming voice thundered the words that somehow shattered her heart. "Niklaus, I have decided that you shall marry the Princess of Mystic Falls, Princess Caroline. Nuptials will take place two weeks from now."

That's all for part 1. Send me a query for part 2 as a reminder, and let me know if you actually like this.

Also R.I.P to the version of Percy that was commanding and calm and extremely unfazed when dealing with outside threats, whose aura alone put a magician of Brooklyn House like Carter on edge and who compared Percy's aura to Horus, the literal God of War and the Skies. So much so that he called Percy "a natural born leader" outright.

This more confident leader persona that Percy was supposed to evolve into through the years was most hinted with his short story with Carter Kane and best executed in Son of Neptune after which somehow Rick decided to throw all that down the drain.

Need more solo books of just Percy doing stuff. I have noticed the pattern that most consistent and peak Percy characterization is seen in books like Titan's Curse, Sword of Hades, The Stolen Chariot, Son of Sobek, and obviously Son of Neptune. Coincidentally, these are all books without Annabeth around, so go figure.

I think we can all agree that Rick has a habit of putting Annabeth on a non-existent pedestal and pushing Percy down to shore her up for no absolute reason. It might be hard for Annabeth fans to hear, but it's true.

R.I.P. the version of Percy Jackson, who spoke competently in front of the senate, fairly easily ridiculed Octavian, and managed to sway the romans to his side simply by providing good arguments and being a natural born leader in Son of Neptune, you will always be famous to me

Fun fact is that no one has even had an inch of an extreme reaction yet. If we wanted to be extreme, we would tear down other characters to prove Percy's supremacy like every other stan seems to do. There would be death threats flinging around the way percabeth stans do to any other Percy ship or to those who don't critique on Percy and Annabeth. There's not even basic curses thrown around in any of the posts.

We are literally posting as civilly as possible, pointing out flaws and inconsistencies in canon and the way Percy is mistreated also through canon evidence because we are sensible people who just want other people with common sense, emphasis on common sense to acknowledged the character butchering Rick is doing to Percy to prop up Annabeth or the endless made up arguments other character stans invent to prop up their favorite and tear down Percy. But as it stands, facts seem to give everyone in the community indigestion. We aren't even anywhere near the extremes others usually employ. Enough said.

"ppl in this fandom overreact when someone so much as breathes on Percy-"

I'm sorry, my favourite 16/17 year old has been tortured half to death TWICE in the last 12 months, and no one, not a single character protected him, checked in with him emotionally afterward or provided any type of medical aid. no one. instead he's blamed to defending himself in the only possible way he could've, and HIS TORMENTORS are comforted right in front of him, BY HIS LOVED ONES.

yeah I think this calls for a bit of an extreme reaction, don't you think?

That's the thing about Annabeth. Her development is only surface level and one dimensional and limited to other aspects that don't cover her fatal flaw or judging persona. Her character is the one that keeps surprising in the worst ways possible, and as I often say, Annabeth is a character that keeps devolving.

Part of the problem is how Rick refuses to address her fatal flaw to the extent that is necessary. He goes on and on about Percy's fatal flaw, or even the fatal flaw of children of Hades like Nico and Bianca, and even Thalia at times but not Annabeth. And Hubris is the most lethal flaw out of them all, too. I mean, between personal loyalty, ambition, and holding grudges and hubris, it is definitely the most detrimental. Rick refuses to critically analyze Annabeth's flaws, and it's not one or two it's many.

And with that alone, coupled with his romance, solves everything attitude towards characters he's permanently ruined some great plot ideas, potential relationships, and even entire books.

Even in a relationship, Rick let's Annabeth be the one calling the shots and pushes her agendas on them so much so that he has made Percy who is the main character and the focus of many books turn one dimensional. His whole personality has become Annabeth. Do Percabeth stans understand that Rick is literally making Percy an entirely different person just to achieve the ship? When it literally goes against Percy's nature of heavily disliking being told what to do, let alone being controlled.

Do you ever think about the fact that Annabeth started out the series by setting up Percy to be bait for the Ares kids and not even giving him a heads up/back up about it? Like we don't talk about the fact that he had less than a week's amount of training under his belt, barely knew how to hold a sword and shield and he was up against 5 Ares warriors - the strongest kids at camp who all had a vendetta against him and weren't known for following the no-maiming rules?

And then at the end of the series Annabeth literally shoves Percy off a cliff into a river with no warning whatso ever where Percy gets beat up by a river god while Annabeth sitting in safety tapping her wrist impatiently. When he finally wins she's there comforting the god that just gave Percy a bleeding head wound and triggered literal years worth of trauma???

Like. This girl does not grow. At all. She has not changed one bit. And Percy at least snapped at her once at the beginning of the series even if nothing came of it. By the end? He doesn't even get mad - he's so used to being treated like shit with no respect and no loyalty he just accepts it. He jokes and romanticizes it as a way of coping. Its so sad.

That's PJO's no.1 couple? Really?

You are definitely prophetic, and I have to admit I have never looked at Jason's death that way. It might all be spot on even. Personally, I am no fan of Jiper or Piper in general, so I am just a little ticked off over it and especially how her character arc progressed after his death. The other thing I had in mind was that the thing with all of the big three is that Rick has them either in a stagnant place, cast aside or dead, as with Jason's case. I think so many big three children together could have helped them share the burden, move on from it, and help each other due to the similarity in their insecurities and fears. To me when Jason chose to agree with Kym and perosnally take over the responsibility of building shrines for Gods like her and when he stood up to Jupiter by standing his ground, he had overcome his fatal flaw in entirety. In a way, to me, Percy and Jason really mirror each other and I am sure that Percy could have helped Jason see the merit in standing by his own opinions and making firm choices any Jason could have helped Percy with his trauma and lack of self-esteem. All these dynamics could have been explored and would have done better justice to their characters rather than the end road that is death and not only because for all his suffering, he deserved a happy and stable life to a degree. Isn't the PJO series all about subverting the tragedy that follows with being a hero? It just would have been more meaningful in my eyes, is all.

But Rick is Rick, and he won't stop until he ruins all things good about his books.

Okay, people, can we just all stop collectively losing it over Rick's recent shitty characterizations and writing in wottg and tsats and so on? For our own mental peace and happiness , let's just collectively agree that anything written after Trials of Apollo is non-canon and loosely based on the orignal lore and full of inconsistent characterization and unnecessary dilution of the same plot.

In not so polite words: Everything after that is a bloody abomination of the original work that I wouldn't touch with a ten foot pole, but it does give me the urge to strangle Rick for ruining a masterpiece.

Everything before that more or less has to be canon cause then we would have nothing to go off of. Even though characterizations begin to be inconsistent ever since HoO and Blood of Olympus is dodgy as hell but let's give it a pass. Everything released after Trials of Apollo, though? Absolutely not.

Also also one exception from Trials of Apollo: Jason's death is non canon and done by Rick for no plot or character development reasons at all and was an entirely unnecessary and illogical move.

So everything after ToA, along with Jason's death, is non-canon. That's it. That's the new canon.

We just have to do that, at least for all our collective sanity and mental peace. I wasn't even on posting schedule today, but one of the wottg excerpts made me so mad that I just couldn't stop myself. Come on, people, let's just agree on it for our mental peace.

In my opinion, Annabeth has more knowledge than any other character, which makes her a genius but not the smartest or the better strategist. Percy has her beat in both, and being the god of improvisation that he is just puts him in a league of his own. Leo has her beat in so many things, too. Practical knowledge, mechanics, calculations, innovative abilities, and so on.

I don't care if this is a hot take or not, but Annabeth Chase is not that much smarter than Percy Jackson, if she is at all.

Yes, she is a genius, yes, canonically she is the most brilliant living child of Athena, yes, she certainly has fullfilled some incredible feats and yes, she is, without a doubt, one of the smartest characters in any of Rick's works.

But never in those books , neither in the og series, nor in heroes of Olympus, has Annabeth done anything, that proves she is smarter than Percy to any considerable degree. At the most, it is told to us through inner thoughts or dialogue, but it is never really shown trough any actions.

I often get the feeling that her intelligence often gets overestimated in the fandom, or, at least, that the intelligence of the characters around her gets underestimated to elevate Annabeth.

Because, even if she were the smartest of the seven (which is very much debatable), it would be a very close call. Especially compared to characters like Leo or Percy, who rival or sometimes even surpass her in that regard (Leo with building the Argo II or his general mathematic genius, and Percy with his battle IQ or manipulative abilities)

Annabeth Chase is a genius and like I said, one of the smartest characters in the riordan verse, but so is Percy Jackson (and Leo Valdez)
