Summary:  Castiel Novak receives a rather alarming text message from an unknown number, and what started as a simple misdial quickly turns into the greatest friendship Castiel has ever known. But Dean has many secrets, dangerous truths about the life he lives, and would like to tell Castiel exactly none of them. As the months pass and Dean’s time grows short, will he be able to keep his relationship with Castiel while also keeping him safe?

“Dude!” Sam slams into the bathroom like there’s a wendigo on his ass, and Dean – who had only just managed to coax yet another temperamental no-tell motel shower to the perfect temperature and relax into the spray – has a very interesting and confused few seconds in which he instinctively, simultaneously tries to shield his junk, duck for cover, and dive for the nearest weapon.

Dean blinks hard, squinting against the water at the bottle of Garnier Fructis he finds himself wielding, textbook-perfect pinch grip and crouched low behind the shower curtain.

“What,” he says, loud over the hiss of the shower and the pounding in his chest, “the fuck.”

“Dude,” Sam repeats, voice alarmingly close on the other side of the curtain – and, seriously, what the fuck, Sam is breaking so many Winchester Rules of Motel Cohabitation right now – “are you weird pen pal text-buddies with Dr. Castiel James Novak?”
