Dolly better watch out. Elly Parton is making moves!!! High key, Joleen is one of my favorite songs of all time so this is amazing and I 10000% had it on repeat.

As promised, at 50% Funded, we have released Joleel. A Jolene parody with lyrics by Lou Sutcliffe. Performed by Daisy McNamara on vocals, and Lou Sutcliffe on Kazoo.

Image description: An eel with blonde hair and a cowboy hat singing. Text reads 50% Funded, Joleel

If you want even more stupidity from us, our next BIG DUMB THING goal is 75% funded. I'm looking into the logistics of doing a rowdy showing of Razortooth, an eel horror movie with 24% on rotten tomatoes, with the cast. More word soon.

Howdy friends!

We are searching for VAs with a Chinese background (preferably Chinese-American) who might be interested in playing a role for an upcoming episode of MERCY: A Queer Eldritch Western. However, as a token of appreciation, we offer sound design & writing services for a free voice demo (or whatever the VA wishes!) in return. The details of the role are as below ✨

ROLE: Jack Yung (20, masc, Chinese-American) ACCENT: General American, California/San-Francisco specific (not a hard requirement) TRIGGER WARNING: VA must be comfortable with potentially triggering content (eg. trauma, s*icide, historical racism, slurs, racial violence) APPEARANCES: Jack will appear in one short scene at the end of Episode 6. He will feature heavily in the first half of Episode 7 and in a short scene in the latter half. Episodes usually run for 40+ minutes. TIMELINE: Recording deadline for Episode 6 is 13 June. Recording deadline for Episode 7 is 11 July. SHOW PREMISE: MERCY is a queer eldritch audio drama set during the tail end of the wild west. Hello People Of Tumblr! Tumblrs? Tumblefolk?

Hello people of Tumblr! Tumblrs? Tumblefolk?

We’re Last Dance, a dark fantasy audiodrama where your body is quite literally your temple. Follow a battlefield scavenger as he’s thrown headfirst into the bloodiest invasion his home has ever seen.

If you like The Silt Verses, Tumanbay and The Witcher series then we’re probably right up your alley.

@luxradium suggested that we get ourselves on Tumblr and so here we finally are!

You can find all our links in our bio, but for now you can see our the first panel of what’s apparently called a Quattrodectych. We have lots more quality fantasy art for the show to share, and I’d love to post a bit more of our worlds lore right here as it seems like it’d be well received!

Anyway, I’m looking forward to figuring out how Tumblr works - see you real soon.

- Max

Hey all apologies for not updating sooner but the next Episode will drop on Monday the 12th. Little life events and work stuff have piled up so that I only really get a fraction of the time needed to pick away at the show. But this weekend is thankfully lighter and I will have the ability to really sit with the show and finish it out to the degree we have all come to expect with it!

Gothic Western Is One Of My Favorite Sub-genres To Sit With And Enjoy. Now, I Have Started Preacher Based

Gothic Western is one of my favorite sub-genres to sit with and enjoy. Now, I have started Preacher based on several recommendations but when I went to watch it Netflix played the last episode first and I was ignorant to the fact until pretty far in, so I had the a lot of the ending spoiled. I want to go back but I find the motivation hard to find. Also, special mention to Penny Dreadful and Supernatural for being super formative for Dead West but neither really sits firmly within Western Gothic.

WHERE DO I START?!

@eelerschoice has an incredible world to explore and dives head long into generational trauma and environmental destruction. Amazing character interactions, well paced, and reaaaaally fun sound design. They are also doing their funds drive for SEASON FRICKEN 2! @lawofnamesmedia's At the Bottom of the Garden uses fairies as a means to explore stories about the stories we tell ourselves about ourselves (and others) and the writing is exquisite so far. I am only a few episodes into this but it has me in a chokehold.

@strangekindstudio Mercy: A Queer Eldritch Western. Set during the Wild West, full of super rich characters (like I am envious of how well they are written), and kicks it off with a monster that is SUPER fun and unique. I literally check each day to see if the next episode has dropped. @thegospelofhaven Give this one a go. You will like it, trust me from there. Just know the sound design is very very very... wet.

@goodmorningevildoers just wrapped their first season and I am so happy I stumbled on this one. It takes the "radio personality" and flips it on it's head a bit. It is super fun and quick, I swear the longer episodes flew by.

Hey Cuties! It’s ya girl, Faustina! Every audio drama Sunday, I make a little video called Faustina’s Faves for shouting out audio dramas I love. And I wanna hear about your show, or a show you love!!

If you want to be featured on Faustina’s Faves, tell me about an audio drama and why you think I might enjoy it! Self promos super welcome!

Love ya, mean it!

The number of times I do this per episode is frankly amusing and concerning.

[In the middle of audio editing, frustratedly scouring a timeline]

"Why the heck does everything sound panned to the left all of a sudden? What did I screw up!?!?"

(Pushes earbud slightly further into right ear.)

"Oh."

i’m going to hold your hands when i say this and i am only going to be kind about it once: ai does not belong in fandom spaces, ever. not in writing, not in art, not in video, not at all. it does not matter how bad you want to see your favourite characters kiss, or how much you need a bit of help finishing a chapter, or whatever.

make friends with artists. commission somebody. learn to draw yourself. ask for a beta read. try a writing partnership. fandom spaces are communities, so engage with them! it is about the journey and the fact that we all love something enough to create and build together about that thing.

spending 30 seconds to kill a tree and get an AI to push out some soulless empty piece of “content” is antithetical to the entire point of being engaged with fandom, and if you’ve taken to doing this you should really reconsider if you belong in these spaces with the rest of us.

Eeler's Choice S2 Crowdfund and TTRPG!

Eeler's Choice S2
Indiegogo
A return to the town of Eskmouth to continue the tale of the great eels. Campaign starts May 2025.

Hello Eel Enthusiasts. I have two announcements for you.

1, Lou and I have been working with Gabriel Robinson (who you may know from The Silt Verses RPG and Trophy, to create a brand new TTRPG set in the Eeler's Choice Universe.

The Eeler’s Choice RPG is a game of maritime folk horror and ecological threats, where hardworking folk build their lives along the coast, and the ocean never gives back what it takes… unchanged.

In this game, a group of residents of the coastal town of Eskmouth are serving their year of community service in the Watch, as all folk of Eskmouth do. Each comes from a different background, bringing their unique skills to respond to situations which threaten the livelihood of the town’s residents.

The Watch go about their lives in Eskmouth, tackling local problems and aiding the community as best as they can by pooling their resources and skills. But something else threatens the city and way of life as most folk know it – a creeping tide of sickness, pollution and strange aquatic mutations. The Watch will soon realize this is caused by the sinister forces of unregulated industry, and must ultimately confront the corrupt organization responsible, all the while maintaining the lives they’ve built in Eskmouth.

Gabriel and I sat down to discuss Game design as well as the Eeler's TTRPG in an interview you can find here

https://feeds.acast.com/public/shows/64f7d10c28c7230011dce344

"This all sounds fantastic. How can I play this game?" I hear you cry.

Well, the full game is still some time away from release. But there is one way you can get access to an early access playtest version.

By donating to our crowdfund! If we reach our first stretch goal of $10,000, all backers will receive an early access copy of the game, as well as the opportunity to provide feedback that may be incorporated into the final game when it is released.

That brings us to point number 2,

2. The Eeler's Choice Season 2 Crowdfund!

Our prelaunch page is live now. You can sign up to be notified when we launch on May 1, 2025.

We have all kinds of great perks in store, including exclusive merch items, workshops, signed and annotated scripts, and more. If you loved season 1 and can't wait to see us delve even deeper into the waters of Eskmouth, you won't want to miss this.

Season 2 will have new characters, new locations, and new mysteries. We cannot wait to bring it to you, but we need your help to make it possible. So if you can spare a dollar or ten, that gets us that much closer to being able to pay our cast and crew the fair rate they deserve.

If you can't donate at this time, that's okay! You can help us by sharing this crowdfund with your friends and family. Eeler's is an indie project without an advertising budget. We can only spread through word of mouth. Every share makes a difference.

Thank you!

Daisy

A very happy audio drama sunday to y'all. I listened to so much good fiction in the last few days, but this week, we really have to give a shoutout to the period pieces.

🧨 I know the creators of @224bbaker have talked about this before, but I absolutely love how, in the form of Fawx, Madge, James, and Archie, they've somehow managed to nail every possible interpretation of the relationship between Sherlock Holmes and Watson. And that's not even considering how they're doing Sherlock Holmes and Watson! The ways in which this show explores relationships is masterful, and kind, while all the while the stakes are sky-high even if you ignore the murders. Amazing. Can't wait for this next ep.

🪼 I was so glad to see the return of Mercy: A Queer Eldritch Western, which is also setting up a supremely good character dynamic between Sawyer and Gray. They are both so bad at people skills in their own special way, and it is a riot. Combined with the extremely good worldbuilding and some very scary jellyfish, I cannot recommend this show enough.

👻 Talk about being haunted by the narrative! If you're not listening to @dead-west-podcast, what are you WAITING for? Like imagine you are a guy trying to use his gifts to help people, but your gifts involve having to see your racist, probably abusive dad's ghost all the time. I'm going to be honest, this last episode had me considering a very important question: Is Dead West just Supernatural, but good? What if Supernatural was good? Yeah, go check out Dead West.

👞 What's uuuup Kingmaker Histories! This show is so good at keeping you on your toes. Sometimes it's Fat Tuesday and the gang is having a bad drug trip, and sometimes your friend is forced to explain his actions from decades ago because if he doesn't, he dies. I love the political complexity this story presents to the listener, which meshes so nicely with its fantastical worldbuilding. If Kingmaker is steampunk, it elevates the whole genre. It's beautiful.

That's it for me! See y'all soon!

Here's the thing about audio drama: this is not a cynical medium.

If you're listening to something, it was somebody's passion project. They had a story that was screaming to get out of their brain, and this was the only way. That's what makes it great.

i always get super frustrated when I'm engaging with media if I don't feel like they have the proper weight given to like. repeated and prolonged periods of intense exertion and/or suffering and/or distress.

what i don't mean is that i think everyone should be screaming and wailing all the time. the thing is that like actually in times of crisis things are really properly like that sometimes. you really do just find this ability in yourself to keep going on. to keep moving forward. because the alternative is sometimes that you will literally die if you don't keep moving. there is no choice.

but this isn't a consequence-less mechanism. the ability to keep moving in a crisis is not a good or positive thing. those perspective-altering shifts have happened whether you acknowledge them or not and the longer you have to ignore them, the sharper the edges get, the more sliced up your sense of self becomes, the more that splatters out of you with every step you take.

and then, when you stop and rest. in a moment of pause and safety. you expect it to be pleasant but it's not. all that stuff you've been carrying with you, that has grown heavier with every step you've taken as you've forced yourself to keep moving because you have no other choice. it's still there. you brought it with you. you had to. there was no other choice about that either.

when you redress those wounds, the bandages are going to take the scabs with them. that moment of pause is filled with washing off old dirt to find you're more injured than you realised.

the keeping on is necessary. but it's the pauses, the brief respites, where you really feel the pain.

and I don't feel like I see enough of that.

voice acting as a profession is so funny because you'll see someone being like "voice actors need to be paid better! like [obscure person you've never heard of]" and you're like "oh I wonder who that person is, maybe I've heard them voice a character" and you look it up and it turns out they voice 137 characters in Futurama and 94 characters in The Simpsons and 96 characters in Adventure Time and every one of the My Little Ponies and 27 characters in Arcane and 96 characters in Kim Possible and 4 characters in Phineas and Ferb and 296 characters in Dexter's Laboratory and all of the main cast of Fairly Odd Parents and at least 6 characters in every Pixar movie and almost every animated depiction of Superman and 473 SpongeBob characters and they've been in every installment of Mass Effect and Halo and The Elder Scrolls and Fallout and Call of Duty and they were in Star Trek and Law & Order and they were 12 characters in the MCU and they also invented t-shirts and the colour green and they got paid a sum total of $3.27 and a mothball for all of it combined. then you go burn down David Zaslav's house with him inside
