CHAPTER II // WROUGHT FROM THE SEABED

image

Your earliest memories are not of collecting chirping crickets during the warm Inazuman summers, hearing ghost stories about trickster tanuki turned to stone in Chinju Forest, nor playing ohajiki late into the evening with the neighborhood children until your mom called you in for supper.

What you can remember, however, is painful enough that you sometimes wish you couldn’t.

Coarse sand rubbing your skin raw. Seawater filling your nostrils, your lungs, your soul. Ocean waves crashing down, manipulating your limp body to and fro as if it were a rag doll. Even when you were on solid ground, you had no energy to lift yourself. So you laid there and waited for whatever to claim you first — the ocean’s waves or death. You had no preference between the two. All you wished for was that whichever it’d be, it would come fast and be done with.

There is no fate worse than an eternal wait.

The church is a tall building. Grand, elegant in its simplicity, though it cuts against the blue sky up above in stark lines, shaped like a prison.

Jungkook thinks life has become a prison a while ago.

It’s a mystery, why your family chose this space for your funeral. You never believed, never practiced. Is it a betrayal to mark your passing in a space that feels so unlike you?

Jungkook thinks it is.

He sighs, chases the heaviness away the same way the clouds chase themselves in the sky up above. He doesn’t know how the sun is shining in the blue expanse of the sky. It’s November, yet the day is warm, the sun is blindingly glowing. It feels like a crime – how can the sun shine in a world deprived of your existence?

Jungkook doesn’t want to know.

Only knows that he’s watched from afar the people that gathered on the front steps. Chatting, heads hung low and shoulders bent forward. He heard sniffles, he heard laughs, and he just waited for everyone to go in to get closer.

Jungkook doesn’t know why he was invited. Why someone from a distant past figured he would need to be here, to share his grief with people that could understand.

Though Jungkook thinks no one can understand.

He remembers you, in all your glory. His first love, when he had been a stupid college kid who didn’t know what he wanted in life. You were two years older, and now... and now one day he’ll be older than you. Because you've stopped aging, you came and went like a moment in time, when he'll still be here for who fucking knows how long.

He chases the thought away with a long inhale, holds the air in knowing that it’s choking him up before he lets it out on a sigh.

You were beautiful. A star that walked the Earth, only to return to the night sky above far too soon. He had loved you dearly, in his own twisted way. Had tried to be what you sought, what you needed, until he had realized he was never going to be enough.

Would you still be alive today, if he had fought harder?

*****

“I’m not doing this,” you said. “I’m so fucking done with your indecision, with your fear of commitment.”

Jungkook scoffed. “Please, you graduated and now you think you’re so high above me. Get down from the fucking horse, Y/n, it’s not going to bring us anywhere.”

He’d said the words hoping that they would hurt you. And they did: he saw you physically recoil as if he’d punched you. As if the words had been a physical blow, and not just letters of the alphabets shaped into words and sound, into arrows to pierce that beautiful soul of yours.

“Maybe I don’t want us to go somewhere anymore,” you replied after a quiet moment of breaking hearts.

“I didn’t mean that.”

“I know.” You sighed, slightly shaking your head as your eyes fell to the floor between you and him. “I know, but I mean it.”

“Please,” was all Jungkook thought to reply.

“You say please all the time,” you told him. “You beg me, and for what? We always circle back to fighting, to hurting each other.” You paused, and though you were avoiding his features he could see you blinking back tears. “Maybe we aren’t supposed to be together at all.”

“Don’t say that,” Jungkook warned. “Don’t you fucking say that. I love you. Isn’t that enough for you?”

“I love you too, Jungkook,” you answered. “I’ve loved you since the first day I met you at that stupid party last year.”

Jungkook felt the tear rolling down his cheek, felt the gravity pulling on his heart until it was shattering on the ground.

“Then why stop now?” he asked. “Give me time, Y/n. I’ll graduate, and I’ll be able to move in with you, and to provide for you and give you everything that you need.”

You sighed heavily, finding courage to finally meet his gaze. At the stark finality shining behind your pupils, Jungkook’s knees weakened. His whole fucking body weakened, ready for the blow.

For the end that was coming for you and him like a car barreling down a dead-end street.

“But I’m tired of waiting,” you answered. “I don’t want to spend my life waiting around for someone.”

“I’m still in college, I just can’t move in with you right now…”

“I know, Jungkook. I know.”

He wanted to fight. Wanted to tell you to stay in his dorm tonight, and to never leave again. But he could tell that you were already gone.

So he steeled himself. Readied himself to let you go even though you were the blood in his veins.

“I’m holding you back, aren’t I?”

You wiped a tear on your cheek, blurring behind those in his gaze. “You are.”

He choked on a sob, hiding his eyes behind his hand as if that would stop the breaking. “I’m sorry.”

“It’s not your fault,” you reassured him. “We just aren’t at the same place in life anymore.”

An empty silence surrounded you, so loud Jungkook could hear every beat of his heart in his ears, could feel the walls pressing in.

“I don’t want you to go,” he softly said.

“I know,” you murmured. “I…” You choked on a sob, and it took you a moment before you managed to continue. “I’m sorry.”

He laughed, a sound so devoid of joy he wondered if he’d ever feel happiness again. “Please don’t be. You’re allowed to want more.”

“I wish I didn’t.”

Anger rose up on the horizon of Jungkook’s conscience, and he pushed it away. He refused to be angry at you, refused to put the blame on you when you made it clear that you wanted him to move in so long ago, and he disregarded it without even once thinking about it.

“I’ll find you again,” he promised, voice strained and heavy with emotion. “I’ll graduate and find you.”

You stepped closer to him, gently cupping his cheek. “Go find someone that loves you for what you are, Jungkook.”

“And you don’t?”

“I don’t want you to settle for someone that asks too much for you,” you explained, renewed silver lining your eyes. “Find someone that loves you for who you are, right now.”

“Fuck that,” he choked out, and he pulled you flush against his chest. “Fuck this nonsense. ”

“I’m so sorry,” you cried against him.

“Don’t be,” he reassured you, though he was crying too. “Don’t be. Give me a few years. I’ll have it all figured out in a few years.”

*****

The priest at the front of the church is going on and on about something that Jungkook doesn’t care to listen to. It’s impersonal, nothing like you, like the vibrant girl he remembers. So he lets his memory guide him to you, where you’re awaiting him. Your lips on his, your hand running through his hair. Your own hair catching in the wind that time you’d gone hiking, and he’d believed being at the top of the mountain with you felt like he had won in life.

Or that time you’d driven on the coast, windows down, screaming the lyrics to a song he can’t listen to anymore. Now the song is haunted by ghosts of a past he never learned to let go, perhaps because for months after the breakup he’d kept the conviction that he’d find his way back to you. He’d believed it the same way he believed the sun would always rise in the morning. A simple truth of nature, that nothing could ever break.

Except a car accident, apparently. Because all it took was a car accident to wipe you off the surface of the Earth, to take your light and shove it into shadows, into darkness and a void so wide he knows he’ll never find you again.

But he’d believed he’d find his way back to you. Never let anyone in after you, for the months and years it took him to graduate because he always knew he’d find his way back to you. You were his silver lining, the finish line at the end of the race. On a November day, just as sunny as today, Jungkook reached that finish line.

He did find you again, only you never knew.

*****

Jungkook had never felt so light before. Like he had grown wings, like he was soaring in the clouds up above. Though the sun was out, the weather was cold, wind running cold fingers through the lapels of his coat until he found himself shivering as he made his way to the flower store.

He’d get the biggest bouquet for you, and then he’d head to where he knew from a common friend that you lived now. It was Saturday, and he hoped to catch you unaware, to catch you in the middle of cleaning your apartment the same way that you cleaned it back when you were dating.

The image of you, with your hair pulled back in a high ponytail as you danced around instead of sweeping the floor shone in his mind, brighter than the star in the sky above.

He bought the flowers, heart beating fast in his chest. Because it was time. It was finally time to go home, to tell you that he did everything he said he would, that he changed and now had a job that could support what you both wanted. He wanted to ask you out, and in his dreams you had been answering yes every single time since he had decided to go see you.

His heart fluttered as he gently rested the flowers on his passenger seat, careful not to damage them. Memories floated to him, and a smile grew on his lips as he remembered you, screaming out the window that day you had driven along the coast. You had stopped to watch the sunset in the waves, and he’d kissed you stupid on his back seat until every single inch of your skin knew about his love.

He couldn’t wait to create new memories with you.

He drove carefully, enjoying the warmth of the sun now that he was safely hidden from the wind. You actually didn’t live too far from where he did now, and soon enough he parked his car near your building. He got out of the vehicle, almost running to the other side in his excitement to grab the bouquet on the passenger seat. When it was safely tucked in his hand, Jungkook shut the car door, locked it, and started walking to your building.

He didn’t even know which apartment was yours. He believed fate would guide him, and so he crossed the street to your building, trusting the universe for what was to come next.

He heard your laugh before he saw you. Love swelled in his chest, and he wondered if you were laughing because you’d seen him, because you’d known that he’d come back for you.

And then he saw you. The wind was ruffling your hair, which he assumed had prompted the laugh. Your eyes were closed, hands struggling to push the wild strands behind your ears.

You were more beautiful than he remembered. Shone brighter, with the same stuff that stars consisted of. He was struck for a moment, watching you with his bouquet hoping that you’d open your eyes and see him.

The world slowed down to a stop, and time halted, and Jungkook watched you, feeling at home for the first time in years.

The illusion fractured the instant someone else came into view, making him realize that you hadn’t been laughing at the wind. No, perhaps your laughter took root in the dimples gracing the man’s cheeks as he smiled at you, as he pecked your forehead before grabbing your hand.

Jungkook ducked behind a car, clutching the flower bouquet like a lifeline the moment that you turned towards him. Did you hear his heart breaking? Did you hear the mockery in the November sun rays – you’d broken up on a similar day, years ago.

Jungkook couldn’t breathe. Couldn’t think around the shattering of his heart, around the blood turning to ice in his veins as he heard you speak to the man – Namjoon, he heard you call him.

He would have rather not known the name.

Still Jungkook drank in the sound of your voice, trying to shape it into the words he was so willing to hear you say today. It didn’t work, and soon enough your voice disappeared, leaving him in a deafening silence of wind and sun and the realization that after all, he had come back too late.

Perhaps he should have known that he'd be too late.

*****

When Jungkook received the call last week, he’d sat outside in the silence until he thought his eardrums would start bleeding. He hadn’t moved, hadn’t breathed, hadn’t done anything other than to stare at the fading light of the sun.

He wonders, why is it that whenever he breaks, November sun is shining high above? As if the universe takes pleasure in his torment, in undoing him until he barely counts as a human being anymore.

He got pissed out drunk that night. Last time he had been as drunk was when he had found out you were dating someone new, that day he had come to find you.

And now he wonders, if he had approached you that day, would you still be dead today? Would life still have put you on that road with its drunk driver so that you could meet your end?

Or would you be laughing at some dumb comment he’d make, telling him that he’s stupid with eyes so full of love he wouldn’t be able to do anything else but agree with you?

It’s hard to tell. So, he doesn’t try to figure it out – he has an eternity ahead of himself to figure out how to live without you anyway.

Maybe in all his misfortune Jungkook actually had some luck. He’s learned to grieve you a while ago already, and perhaps grieving someone that still lives is harder than grieving someone that’s passed. He doesn’t know. He doesn’t think he knows anything. Just that, so far back in the past he should have said fuck it and move in with you. It was such a simple request, but he had been too young and dumb, and he’d forever live with the regrets of it.

If someone from your family notices his presence at the funeral, recognizes him from your shared past, they don’t say. Especially not as the end of the ceremony comes before he’s had a chance to really take in the picture of you, smiling, over there next to the urn with your ashes.

You’re ashes now. Everything that made you – your laugh, your smile, the way you carried yourself with that simple elegance – all of it is gone to be replaced with mere ashes.

He doubts they can hold the truth of your essence, but then again he doesn’t think anything can, or anything ever will again.

He blinks away the tears as they come, leaving the ceremony like a whisper in the wind. He doesn’t want to speak to your family, doesn’t want to see them coddling the man that you loved, that survived the accident when he should have been the one to go.

Jealousy and selfishness are ugly, Jungkook realizes. But it’s easier to hate the man that took you away from him, no matter how unknowingly he did it.

And Jungkook tried to hate you once. He tried hard, in the months after that fated November day, when you’d laughed to that man’s joke, smiled when he’d smiled that soft dimpled smile of his. He had tried, because hating you felt like it was the only way he wouldn’t hurt. But he still hurt – he still hurts.

All he’s been able to do in his life since you broke up is hurt, and he highly doubts he’ll ever feel differently again.

Perhaps he’ll grow numb. Perhaps he should have grown numb a while ago.

At least that’s what he’s telling himself days later, when he’s looking at the tombstone they picked out for you. The finality of your name and the dates, the ending, is unnerving. He wishes it was fake, wishes it was a joke, and that he didn’t spend most of his life loving someone that moved on to a new love in just a few years.

It’s been over a decade and he hasn’t moved on even a little bit.

He kicks the ground, mad at the leaves littering the ground where you’re buried, as if they’re sullying you. And as if laughing at him, sun rays pierce through the clouds up above, that dreaded November sun making an appearance when it should stay gone.

He allows himself to cry. To break down, to sit on the ground and curse everything and everyone that’s ever been between you and him. He curses his stupidity, curses the sun and the leaves and the etchings on the stone. He hates everything. Hates himself, hates you, hates the whole fucking universe for taking you away, for not giving him the chance to be with you.

That’s how Namjoon finds him. Jungkook’s tears have receded, and he’s just sitting there, an empty shell that once held love and laughter and your lips on his. He hears the scuffle of Namjoon’s steps, of his cane as he walks up the path.

The man’s features are grave when Jungkook can’t help but glance towards him, sees him ambling up the path with that cane, the only indication that he too was in that car accident. And Jungkook wonders if Namjoon knows about him. If Namjoon knows that he wasn’t the first man whose love for you was a bottomless ocean, one Jungkook has drowned in time and time again since you broke up.

Namjoon remains standing, and Jungkook remains sitting. Like there’s an understanding between them, and silence conveys more than words could. Jungkook doesn’t want to move, and Namjoon clearly doesn’t have anywhere to go.

Jungkook thinks the Earth has revolved around the sun at least once before Namjoon scrapes his throat.

“It’s hard to believe that she’s gone, isn’t it?” he speaks, deep voice carrying the weight of the universe.

Jungkook doesn’t deign reply as his eyes fill with tears, though he refuses to let them out right now.

Especially not in front of the man you loved after him.

“You’re Jungkook, aren’t you?”

The simple sentence makes Jungkook lose it. He hides his face in his hands, his whole soul bleeding out under the November sun.

“She told me about you,” Namjoon continues, and Jungkook is convinced he hears pain, tears and grief laced with Namjoon’s words.

What did you tell him, Jungkook wonders? Did you tell Namjoon that you should have waited for Jungkook, that you should have given him a chance to become what you needed?

“She loved you a lot,” Namjoon adds after a silence, and he chokes on a sob. “She never forgot about you.”

“Why are you telling me this?” Jungkook asks with that broken voice, raspy with disuse.

He hasn’t been able to speak since you died.

“You deserve to grieve. She loved and loved, and I wish it would have been enough for her to live…”

“Stop,” Jungkook begs. “Please.”

Namjoon falls silent, offering salvation to Jungkook, though Jungkook doesn’t know if he deserves it.

Would he have been able to offer salvation to someone in his position if the situation was reversed? He highly doubts it.

“It’s just…” he trails off when he finds words again. “You got fucking years with her. You got years of loving and-“ it breaks on a sob. “And you were fucking engaged.” Jungkook pulls at his hair. “You were engaged, and all I got was months. Not even a full year.”

“I’m sorry man,” Namjoon answers, voice so broken Jungkook wonders who’s suffering the most.

He doesn’t think it’s himself.

“Was she happy?” Jungkook eventually asks, once he can’t stand the silence hanging around. Once he can’t stand the etchings on the stone, the void in the universe that used to be filled with you.

“I made her as happy as I could,” Namjoon replies truthfully, his voice strained but not as pained anymore. As if he’s reached a conclusion, clarity filling his mind.

Not needing to hear more, Jungkook gets up, dusting himself off.

“Good talk,” he says, fighting against the next onslaught of tears, and then he’s storming off.

Storming away from you, from everything that you meant to him. And maybe the sun rays really are mocking him in that beautiful November sky, because Namjoon says, “I don’t think she ever truly was happy after you, though.”

Jungkook stops, convinced someone just stabbed him right in the heart. He doesn’t think the organ can beat anymore, doesn’t think he can live anymore. He just wants to be dust on the wind, to be forgotten, and to stop fucking feeling all the time.

“She was calling off the engagement,” Namjoon continues. “She…” Jungkook turns, and he doesn’t think he’s ever seen such agony as the one that graces Namjoon’s features right now. “She said she shouldn’t get married to me when she still loved another.”

Clouds pass in front of the November sun, and Jungkook remembers the smile on your face whenever you’d catch his gaze. He remembers the way you’d lovingly cupped his cheek even when you were breaking up with him. He still feels the ghost of your fingers on his skin as he holds Namjoon’s broken gaze.

He holds Namjoon’s broken gaze, unable to offer the man salvation. It might make him a monster, might make him selfish and jealous and everything that he finds disgusting about humanity. But Jungkook doesn’t care.

Not when he realizes that perhaps, perhaps he’s the one that you’re waiting for on the other side of the veil, so that you can rest in the eternity of afterlife together.

And perhaps, perhaps there’s some sort of beauty in the thought.

Strangers (Chapter Four)

The sun beat down on you as you walked along the beach, the sand between your toes as a tidal wave came in and washed them. You gasped as you spotted a ghost crab hole appearing.

“Dad, look! Another one!” You exclaimed, pointing at it and turning around to look at your father. He came up beside you, kneeling closer to your height.

“Good catch, kiddo.” His voice echoed in your ears. You had lost count of how many of these burrows you had found, but your dad seemed to never get tired of you pointing them out. If he regretted teaching you about them while you were still so young and excitable, he never showed it.

You knelt down and started scooping some of the wet sand to build something - you weren’t sure what yet. Your father stood up, patting your head affectionately as you worked. “I’m gonna go for a dip. I’ll be right back.”

You huffed angrily as a wave destroyed your sandcastle a third time in a row. Abandoning the impossible project, you turned around to look back at the water. You spotted your dad pretty far out, much further than you would ever dare to go. He was bobbing along the big waves and when he caught you looking at him, he smiled widely and waved.

You watched him for a while before you noticed a giant wave approaching him. It was bigger than any wave you’ve ever seen before. Even from where you sat safe on the sand, it scared you. You begin waving your arms and screaming for your dad’s attention and when you finally got it, he just gave you another clueless grin.

It all happened so quickly. The huge wave washed over and took your father with it, completely catching him by surprise. You watched helplessly from the shore, waiting for him to resurface but he never did. You were numb to the tears falling down your cheeks as wave after wave washed over your feet, burying them deeper into the sand as if trying to drag you in as well.

Hambie | Gwi-Nam x Reader

Hambie | Gwi-Nam X Reader

-

“Dae-Su, what the hell is a Hambie???”

“Oh, you know, a half-zombie.”

“What the fuck.. How did you even come up with that, dude?” Y/N laughed at Dae-Su, in which he responded back with a chuckle.

“Shit. I’m so bored.” Y/N said and everyone agreed with her.

She looked at Hyo-Ryong and Ji-Min chatting, she became sad because she technically wasn’t friends with anyone in the room, except Gyeong-Su, and well, he’s gone. She never really talked to Dae-Su or Cheong-San.

She stood up from her chair and looked out the window. Zombies were just tripping over each other which made her laugh. The other kids just looked at her like she was insane. How could anyone laugh in this situation? She has a dark sense of humor. She was about to tell Gyeong-su to come look but then she remembered, again. He’s gone. She looked away from the window and sunk down the wall.

She swore if Na-Yeon happens to survive this, she’d kill her herself.

With her knees to pulled to her chest, she began to cry.

She wiped the falling tears and stood up, “Who has a backpack?”

Everyone looked at her, “I do.” Hyo-Ryung says, “Why?”

“Because, I’m hungry, I’m sure everyone else is hungry. Since we can’t even get in that closet. I’m gonna go look for food for us.”

“Why are you insane?? You’ll die out there!” On-Jo shook her head in disbelief.

“And? I’ve got nothing else to live for.” Y/N shrugged and walked over to Hyo-Ryung.

Hyo-Ryung hands her the empty bag then hugs her, “I know we aren’t friends but good luck, please return safely.”

Y/N nods and heads out the window.

-

“Shit! Shit! Shit!” Zombies chased after Y/N, even falling atop one another, trying to get through the cramped hallway.

Meanwhile, Gwi-Nam was asleep in a room that was empty.

Y/N becomes tired quickly, readjusting the straps on her shoulders.

She decides to look back, seeing maybe 20-30 zombies chasing after her, “fuck this,” she runs into the closest room and slams the door closed.

“Yah! Who are you?” Y/N froze when she heard an unknown voice. Seeing a broom next to her, she grabs it, and starts hitting whatever just talked.

Gwi-Nam was already getting aggravated, he grabs the broom from her, snaps it in half on his leg then throws it across the room.

Y/N is then pushed the against the wall. “Who. The. Fuck. Are. You?” He demanded.

Y/N gave him her infamous resting bitchface, “Get the fuck off me, you fucking stink.” She pushes him off of her.

Realization suddenly hit her, “Wait a minute, Gwi???”

She grabbed the bloody hambie and pulled him to her, “Oh my god, you’re okay.”

Gwi-Nam realized it was Y/N, “I wouldn’t say I’m okay, I’m fantastic. I’m a god.”

“What are you talking about?”

“I was bit, but I’m alive, sweetheart.” He let go of Y/N.

“A hambie!” Y/N laughed.

Gwi-Nam just deadpanned at her, “What the fuck.”

——

I’m sorry that this is so bad and short. I ran out of ideas for it. Might make a part 2 if I get enough feedback.

Warnings: graphic description of violence.

Death has cast her gaze on your wretched body.

Each puff of breath you take burns in your tired lungs, your legs long since unable to carry you any further. You were so tired but you still—

You still wanted to live.

A choked sob catches in your throat, raw and painful. Your hands scrabble over stone and dirt and snow, desperate for anything but that useless, pathetic hope is crushed into a hundred pieces when a foot pressed down, hard, on your thin wrist.

Xiao's golden eyes peer at you with just a twinge of pity but you don't want his pity, you want his mercy. Mercy from a painful death and from the hatred you'd been a recipient to ever since you found yourself in Genshin Impact, wonder and excitement all but lost when someone wearing your face declared you an imposter and demanded your head on a platter.

Cracked lips fall open, a gasp tearing from your chest like tearing flesh off bones. Your tears blur his face into another unrecognisable person, ready to be your judge, jury and executioner for a crime uncommitted yet blamed all the same on you.

Hands, golden lined and colder than Dragonspine itself clasp around your neck faster than you can sob out more pathetic pleas. You swear you can feel Zhongli bending the bones from his grip alone, your windpipe slowly, achingly giving way under his fingers yet it doesn't compare to the sheer pain you feel at the hatred in his eyes when he stares down at you.

Only a sick gurgle escaped past your lips, just as ugly as what you've become.

"Thank you, darlings," the monster wearing your skin finally appears in all their splendid glory and followed by more "loyal acolytes", smiling so serenely you would've thrown up what little food you'd eaten had it not been for your current predicament. "Still not going to repent? To ask for my frogiveness? To shed this shameful skin of yours?"

This skin is mine! You want to shriek. You want to claw at their eyes and their stolen body to see if behind it all was blood and bone or just an empty abyss. This skin is mine!

"Xiao?"

His attention is immediately on them, even the pity now long gone. You are still staring at Zhongli's eyes and it feels as though the sun itself has turned its back on your. "Yes, your excellency? What can this lowly servant do for you?"

Your monstrous twin sighs, as though they feel genuinely bad. Lies, lies, lies, liar—

"Kill them for me. Make their last breath be a scream."

Zhongli's hands falls away and you are not even granted the privilege of one breath before Xiao's spear— the one you gave him— is lodged deep in your stomach.

You scream just as the beast wearing your flesh demanded— your scream is liquid horror; it is a sound deep from the corners of the abyss where monsters lurk and the sun doesn't shine; your scream lets him— lets everyone— know that by cutting you, they are cutting themselves; lets them know that that true sound is one that can be found within them, yet by their own hands they've blackened every vision oh happiness and joy you could have shown them.

Golden ichor covers the ground, your bruised body, your hands. You cough it up your raw throat and beyond the haze of painpainpain, you feel even more hands descend on your writhing body. They plea and beg and grovel to you and even beyond that, there is another shriek but you can no longer tell if it is your or somebody else's.

You meet Xiao's golden eyes, and they stare at you in muted horror and regret. You want to laugh but all you do is choke on even more blood as you're picked, as a maelstorm of healing hydro and anemo surrounds you.

Death has cast her gaze on your wretched body, yet she turns away from you all the same.

— in the spring

su-ho x gn!reader

genre: lovers to enemies to… lovers

warnings: swearing, fighting, insulting, that's all i think!

synopsis: you think suho is a stuck up prick who thinks he’s better than everyone else, and never miss an opportunity to tell him so.

author’s note: aouad break i need some suho! also tumblr had the audacity to delete half of what i'd written so i had to... rewrite it... anyways here u go!

— In The Spring
— In The Spring

“Move.”

Suho’s voice, unmistakably so. You heaved a deep sigh and turned around to face him. He stared at you coldly, but you didn’t budge. Your crossed your arms and leaned on the edge of the doorway to the classroom.

“Do you know how to be polite? You son of a bitch.” you asked calmly, in contrast to your choice of words. He took a deep breath but didn’t respond.

“I asked you to move.”

“You call that asking?”

He walked past you, making sure to shove your shoulder as he did. You scoffed but bit your lip to hold back any words that you felt the urge to spit in his irritating face. You turned around. “Lee Suho.”

He paused and turned around. You flipped him off with a smile, before walking out. Whispers spread around the classroom, before instantly silencing the moment Suho turned back around. People were glad you and Suho weren’t in the same class— It was enough with him and Seojun already. The boy heaved a sigh and walked to his seat, sitting down and sorting out his things calmly.

You walked through the corridor of the school and people made way for you. There always had to be three, right? The three most attractive people in the school. Lee Suho. Han Seojun. And, well, you. It wasn’t self-proclaimed. People had just seemingly silently agreed that it was true between themselves. And of course, the three of you had to have some sort of grudge towards each other.

Rumors always spread in high-schools, but even more so when they concerned the most popular students around. There was a ranking, too. They were organized, in their odd way— You had to give them that. From what you knew, there was a top three of rumors on why you and Suho hated each other.

1. You were jealous of each other. (Ridiculous. Suhon would never hate someone over something as trivial as popularity. He didn’t care whatsoever. Did these people know nothing about him at all?”)

2. Your friendship with Seojun had to do with it. (That also was completely untrue. You knew about the reason why Seojun treated Suho this way, but didn’t even agree with him on the matter. Therefore, that rumor was false as well.)

3. You and Suho used to date. (…)

Well. To anyone concerned, you disliked Suho because he was an annoying, stuck-up prick. That was it.

Suho disliked you because— He didn’t owe anyone an explanation, did he? He scoffed to himself at the thought of it.

Break time came around and you stretched in satisfaction. One of your friends pushed your chair as they walked out of the classroom, making you laugh and thrown a punch in their arm. You packed up your stuff and left the classroom.

You came to an abrupt stop at the sight of someone very clearly standing in your way. Suho. You were the only one in the classroom, now, and he had no business being here. Which could mean he wanted to talk to you for some reason.

“What?” you asked, looking at him. He had his usual cold expression with a slight glare.

“Apologize.” he said, “For flipping me off in the classroom.”

“And why should I?” you scoffed, before crossing your arms and leaning against the doorway, “Would you rather I do it here where no one can see so your precious little ego isn’t hurt?”

He sighed.

“Why don’t you apologize first, then? For not telling me shit when we broke—”

“Quiet down.” he cut you off. You scoffed and walked past him.

“Whatever. Later, smartass.”

“Hey, smartass. Not everyone understands maths like you do.” you sighed, propping the side of your face in the palm of your hand with a slight pout, “None of this makes sense to me, and I hate when things don’t make sense. I’m pissed off, now.”

“You look…” Suho trailed off, and his expression seemed to have lagged between his usual stone-face and a slight smile. He settled on pursing his lips and chewing on the bottom one instead. “… Pretty cute, for someone who’s pissed off.”

You laughed and let your head fall onto the table to hide your grin. “Stop it. You sound stupid when you try to be romantic.”

“I’m not… trying, though.”

“I guess you just sound dumb in general?” you teased lightheartedly. You looked up and realized his cheeks were tinted pink. You smiled and tilted your head, whereas he turned away to look at whatever was so interesting on the floor before muttering something nearly incomprehensible about continuing your homework.

“[name]. Wait.”

You stopped in your tracks and instantly regretted it. No matter how much you tried, you couldn’t help but still listen to him when he spoke. So you turned around to look at him.

“Let’s talk.”

You crossed your arms. “About?”

He started walking towards you at a slightly alarming speed before grabbing your arm and pulling you along as he walked through the hallways of the school. “Us.”

You could’ve shook his hand off, punched him, insulted him, anything really. But you didn’t say a word, letting him guide you to wherever it was he wanted to go. And this place ended up being a small garden hidden next to a tiny park barely anyone ever went to. The flowers there looked pretty, and even prettier when you thought about the fact that you and Suho were the ones to grow them. Now there was color everywhere, with the sun shining on the flower petals and the breeze passing by.

The garden where you’d first gotten together, in the spring around two years before. You hadn’t even step foot there since your breakup, one spring ago.

Suho stood in front of you, but averted his gaze. You took a deep breath.

“Speak.” you said, voice noticeably calmer than the one you used whenever you two would interact at school. “You wanted to talk. So go ahead. Speak.”

He looked at you.

“I apologize.” he said, and your throat tightened. There was a slight feeling of dizziness spinning in your head and you tried to focus. Suho swallowed thickly before exhaling. “I’m sorry I left you that day.”

That day.

“Suho, it’s fine to— to want to break up with me, okay? But can you at least tell me why? …Suho. Hey, Lee Suho! I’m out of your fucking apartment can you answer me already? Is it so hard to explain it to me?! Did I do anything wrong? Suho, seriously. Please. Just tell me. Lee Suho!”

It felt pathetic to even think about. But alas.

“I wanted to end things between us because at that time, so many things were complicated and I had no idea how I was feeling.” he said calmly, quietly. “I felt unwell, and I didn’t know my feelings towards anyone. It was to the point where I couldn’t tell if I liked or disliked you. So I thought it would be best to end things there.”

You looked away. You, quite frankly, wondered if Suho had any fear at all in this moment. Because what he told you could’ve very well earned him a punch in the face for the time it took him to explain. You were mad, because you’d spent all those nights since months ago thinking about whether or not you’d done something wrong. Thinking about whether or not there was a reason you’d missed. All those times, you blamed yourself, you cried about it like a kid, and then acted like you hated him at school. You were angry. And perhaps even angrier now that he had finally told you the reason. But you’d also been waiting for him to do that for ages. So the anger wasn’t as present as you thought it would be. Rather, you felt a bit calmer.

“Then how are you feeling, now?” you asked quietly, looking back up at him. He didn’t even blink or hesitate when he replied.

“I love you.”

You scoffed and brought a hand to your face, running it over the expense of your embarrassed features and stopping at the bottom half of it. There was blood rising to your cheeks and it felt too hot. “You fucking idiot, I meant how you feel in general— Fuck.”

He smiled a little at your state.

“Do I really need to say it?”

“It would make me happy.”

“… I love you too, obviously. I’m sure you realized I was just putting up a front when we talked at school.” you said, uncovering your mouth to take a deep breathe. Then you looked at him and he was smiling. You couldn’t help but grin. “Stop it. I know you’re making fun of me.”

“I’m not.”

You sat down on the bench with an exhale, and leaned back against it. Suho sat down besides you like he used to, and before any of you could notice, your hands were intertwined.

“We should take it slow, now.” you said, before staggering slightly, “I mean, if you even want things to… You get it.”

“Of course. Either way I wouldn’t have told you I love you.”

“O-kay, I got it the first time no need to repeat it.” you sighed and scoffed, turning away to hide the heating up of your face. You knew he was smiling because whenever he felt confident enough to tease you, your reaction was always his favorite part. His hand tightened around yours and it felt nice.

Things had changed, perhaps like the flowers around you two had. One spring passed, and you were back again.

Wealth, Fame and Power? Perfection.

Summary: SAGAU but you're from a Historical Manhwa.

Warnings:

Wealth, Fame And Power? Perfection.

"This place is huge…" Venti whispered, enough for the other two Archons and the Alchemist to hear—in which they nodded in agreement. It was a huge Mansion. Every corner is cleaned, flowers on every vases and decorations that seemed to be more expensive than they thought.

They tried to find you. But there are too many maids everywhere. They can't let their presence known or else this wouldn't be a secret mission to retrieve you to Teyvat. And based on how everyone here moves, they know that they're preparing for something.

"Do you think the Duke/Duchess would like this?" The maid questioned the tall man who was wearing a black suit, observing the entire Mansion with his own eyes, trying to perfect everything. The tall man looked at the maid and just sighed. "The Duke/Duchess hates flashy things. Keep that out of sight." The tall man ordered. The maid apologised and rushed to hide the said item.

"Is everything perfect?" The tall man shouted, gathering everyone's attention. All of them gave him their nods, and thumbs ups—proudly presenting that they did their work properly.

"Why are they doing this? Who is the Duke/Duchess?" Albedo asked, still hiding behind some sort of a wall with the other Archons. "I don't know either. But that 'Duke/Duchess' seems to be a respectable person." Zhongli answered, trying to lower his deep voice. "But we should be careful-" as Ei was trying to warn the others, one of the guards that was positioned in the front door announced something.

"The Duke/Duchess— Y/N of the L/N clan has arrived! Pay your respects!"

Suddenly, everyone bowed down and the door opened. revealing- "Your Grace?!" Venti shouted, his voice still lowered but enough for the other three to hear.

You stepped inside the Mansion—clothes that look like it costs a million mora, gemstones, and the other expensive decorations make you look ethereal.

"WE GREET YOUR HIGHNESS!"

Wealth, Fame And Power? Perfection.

This is just a short brainrot! I was about to make reader like a Crown Prince/Princess but nah that's too much work.

pairing. . . . . . scaramouche, childe, albedo, zhongli, xiao x gn! reader.

warnings. . . . a bit manipulative scaramouche (forgive meee i can't see him any other way but he loves you i swear)

genre. . . . . . . fluff.

notes. . . . . . . i hope you like this!! <3 please take care you too, is always nice seeing your requests jsjsj.

Oooh, Fluff You Say 👀👀 I Think I Have One Fluffy Scenario If You Don't Mind It Hehehe 💚 How

⩩ SCARAMOUCHE

when luckily he hears you say all those things about him, he literally stops to listen to everything you think of him. this boy will hide somewhere where you don't see him but he can hear you perfectly, and at the same time he'll act totally disinterested.

the only thing that scara thinks now is… “i'll use everything you say in my favor. yeah, i'll gain your trust more easily. you'll be in my hands in no time, y/n.”

oh, do you say you like the way he occasionally looks at you from afar? well then, his eyes will be following your figure almost whenever he has the chance. he'll even give you a smug smile, just for you, capable of accelerate your heart beats with a single grin. oh man, this little brat knows very well what he is doing.

do you like the way he expresses himself, or when he starts teasing his comrades for his own amusement? he will do it again, but making sure that you are in front of the scene.

and when you talk with him, expect a lot, lot of teasing on his part as well. you speak wonders of him, that just means you're crazy about him, aren't you? that's what his narcissism says at least.

if you want him to be softer with you, he will be. scara will act like a good boy, but only with you. his true intentions will remain hidden, but the longer he keeps them inside, the higher his desire to corrupt you is.

he wants you so, so bad. and this situation has only caused him to want you to himself even more.

⩩ CHILDE

he'll be at first like... “wait, who is y/n talking about? do i have competition?” but when his name comes out from your lips, he opened his eyes in surprise. man couldn't be happier.

don't doubt that childe will show himself in the middle of your passionate talk about him. has nothing in mind, just let you know that he has heard it all. to tease a little bit.

“did y'all hear that? y/n is talking about me!” he'll say without any shame, impossible for him hide his pride.

then, ignoring the presence of other people in front of you both, he'll address only you. “i didn't know you thought all that about me. you shouldn't keep those things to yourself, you know?” childe's voice is now softer. he's being serious about that. you're his soft spot, can't help it!

that only makes you blush. he really caught you at the worst time. you don't usually talk about him, and just now that you're dedicating the best words to this boy, he appears!

but that gave childe a great boost of motivation. your words were worth more than anyone else's, sometimes more than his own.

so next time, say it directly to him. you don't know the impact you have on him, positively speaking, of course. a praise from you, and childe can find himself smiling for the rest of the day.

⩩ ALBEDO

oh, so are you talking about albedo? what a coincidence that he just unintentionally overheard it all.

a mix of various emotions disconcert this boy, he's quite confused by how he really feels about your words.

shame, joy, satisfaction... although all this was expressed with a small smile, while pretending to do something else and that he wasn't listening.

what you were saying was much more interesting to him. hence from time to time he could find himself static, simply using his sense of hearing. when he realizes it, he shakes his head to focus again and get on with his stuff.

he doesn't plan to tell you anything about what he heard. at least not if it's not necessary, but he may drop little clues during your talk, to make you think a bit or leave you wondering if he really caught you talking about him or not.

“if you want, you can come and do some research with me. i think you could be of help to me in the future, also... i'm pretty sure you are quite interested in the way i work, correct?”

so he can spend more time with you and enjoy your company. you don't know, but he's thanking all the archons for having heard everything you said about him. now he's more confident while having you around. so just stay by his side, alright?

⩩ ZHONGLI

zhongli heard everything he had to heard. a smile appeared on his face as he watched you silently, just paying attention to your words as the other sounds around him became secondary.

then one of the people accompanying you whispered something in your ear, and you immediately turned around, making eye contact with zhongli for a few seconds, before turning back flustered and flushed.

the man chuckled, also somewhat blushed and left without saying a word. maybe if he wasn't there anymore, you'd calm down faster, or so he thought.

but no way zhongli's gonna leave that matter unfinished! he also has several things to tell you and will find some time to invite you to go somewhere — he won't care too much which place, he just wants to enjoy your presence alone.

“you always manage to pleasantly surprise me when i least expect it. maybe i should start doing the same with you...”

expect a lot of nice words from this man, and all of course, 100% honest from his point of view. you are perfect to him and the fact that you think so highly of him as well will only make him want to declare his love for you a lot sooner than expected. he can't wait to tell you his feelings and show you the affection you deserve.

⩩ XIAO

xiao will disappear as soon as he realizes that you are talking about him. i mean, you're not even going to have time to know that he has heard everything.

xiao will be so embarrassed and will think TOO MUCH about what you said. do you really think that of me? how can you see all that in someone like... me?

the next time you make eye contact, he will blush and look away as fast as he can, releasing a slight “tsk”, and mentally scolding himself. “i should stop looking at you. why can't i? control yourself, damn it. it was just a few simple words.”

as much as he tries to downplay it, those 'simple words' of yours hit differently for him. the only thing he can feel is helplessness for not being able to do anything about it.

it's possible that he won't speak to you in a while and you have to be the one who speaks to him first. the only thing he will say to you is “call my name if you ever need me.”

nothing out of the ordinary, he doesn't want you to know that you have such a great effect on him. he'd feel so vulnerable in your presence if you knew how he feels about you.
