My favorite thing to come from the Death Note Exhibition was the 3D sculpture.
Seeing Mello and Near in a 3D form makes me love the tiny details about them more.
~ Nears cheeks are more rounder than Mellos and his facial features are a lot softer in comparison.
~ Mello has some roundness to his upper cheeks but his face is overall thinner making his jawline sharper and come to more of a point in his chin area.
~ Nears lips are small and turn upwards at the edge
~Mello's lips are fuller and have an almost pouty look to them as Mello keeps his lips turned downwards.
I wish I could have gone to the Death Note Exhibition myself to see them in person.
Incredibly specific moments in atla i think about ALL the time (i am Not normal)
Zuko's eyes slightly widening when witnessing Katara's bloodbending for the first time
Aang and Katara just missing each other looking back at the other after their argument in The Warriors of Kyoshi
Toph holding onto Sokka's arm once on Appa when he didn't have a saddle and once on the boat bringing them to the lake town
The moon being in full view as Suki tries to kiss Sokka in the Serpent's Pass, and the shadow returning as Sokka leaves
The "four seasons for love" motif coming back throughout the episodes of the Northern Watertribe and specifically as Sokka gives himself up to serve in the battle against Zhao's seige and Yue turns away and quietly cries as she watches him walk off
Longshot talking for the first time ever as Jet lay dying
In that same breath, the way Toph says "he's lying" as they walk away from Jet knowing that he's going to die
Aang looking back at the Southern Airtemple ruins along with Momo as they fly away from it, seeing it disappear behind the clouds (this one specifically makes me cry so much)
The chants as Aang gets summoned by the Lion Turtle in book 3 being the SAME as the chants when Aang fuses with the ocean spirit in book 1 (there's other moments with these chants i think but i can't remember them off the top of my head)
Aang taking down Ozai's airship in the finale as his first attack and Sokka cheering him on like a proud older brother
Katara immediately without a shadow of a doubt responding "Aang won't lose" when Zuko questions if he'll be able to take on Ozai
Aang knowing Zuko was gonna fire at him in the crystal catacombs as soon as Zuko laid eyes on him (he gasped before Zuko even made a move) when even Azula wasn't sure what Zuko was gonna do in that scenario

AGREED AGREED AGREED. i think about this all the time-- like the fact that mello lacked all the funding, all the government clearance and assistance, and ability to move freely that near had, and STILL managed to match near, and even overtaking him at some parts of the case, shows how insanely fucking smart and impressive he is
not to forget that near started off with backing and equipment but mello also had to join and take over the mafia since he ran away
I constantly think about the fact that if you ask a death note fan who is the #1 successor to L, they will say Near without a beat most likely, when in actuality, there was never a choice made so Mello and Near are on the same level and mello was just never given the time of day and it makes me so upset
One thing that like. shakes me to the core if I think about the radiant emperor duology. is how Zhu wanted to help Ouyang despite the betrayal, in a way that was more than just a convergence of their fates.
Two things: since the first book, we know they're similar, connected, and that Zhu feels this connection wholly with a fascination that slowly becomes more complicated. She is more open to the connection that Ouyang, because she embraces wholly who she is, knowing her otherness in a complete way that for Ouyang was only pain and self-hatred. Second, Zhu is incredibly strong, mentally and emotionally, in separing herself from those who aren't in her tightest circle. Shelley wrote in two beautiful separate instances in hwdtw how when you witness someone in pain, if you don't hate that person you will be contaminated by that pain, and Zhu has for most of the series such unflinching emotional fortitude that while she observes and acknowledges and fights for other's pain, she doesn't feel it herself, not completely. Book one ends with her killing a kid because he is in her way, we can't forget it.
Ouyang's grief, so potent throughout the entire second book, is fully understood by Zhu only when she loses Xu Da. And Xu Da's death, united with the connection Zhu and Ouyang have nurtured in their fucked up way of theirs, is enough that when Ouyang's deep-rooted disgust and refusal of femininity breaks their alliance, it doesn't break their connection. Sure, Zhu feels true betrayal, and mours the possibility of a future that Ouyang sees only for a brief moment, for himself after the end of his revenge, made possible by Zhu. But Zhu, who is so ruthless she is similar to a person who is more violence than humanity, kind of... pushes the betrayal aside. She will help him anyway. They have the same goal. She keeps on including him in her dream of a future, even after he betrayed her.
When she learns of Ouyang's death, she tries to be happy he at least got what he wanted, completed his fate. She wants his desire for revenge to have mattered for herself, to quench the doubt if everything she's doing is worth the pain, and for Ouyang, sadness in her heart. But she already knows somethins is wrong in the air, in the room where the Great Khan's blood ran down the tiles, and that's what makes me insane. Their bond didn't break when Ouyang rejected their sameness and betrayed her. The bond deteriorates only when his sacrifice was for nothing. Zhu aches for Ouyang. She carries his ghost with her and at the last moment, Ouyang would be her final weapon. Except we've seen how Xu Da's death changed things. How grief, for Xu Da and Esen, shaped Zhu and Ouyang forever. So the fact that the last thing Zhu does before starting her reign is fixing the bond, restoring it to its original resonance, is what proves she was going to forgive him, in a way. She was going to give him a place in the new world.
The entire book is a sequence of tragedies, created by love expressed too late, too little, love that was not enough, yet was also the cause of every tragic end. So there's a little love also in Ouyang and Zhu's tragedy, where their sameness wasn't enough, and Ouyang is the last piece of the old world, made better by Zhu's will for a better future.
hey its pride month and idk about yall but I Could Use Some Life Altering Top Surgery!!!! i don’t think i’ll be able to raise the roughly 8,000 usd minimum needed for surgery directly off donations but every dollar counts! i got a temp job and was able to afford rent and bills this month, so i can at least put the donations into savings this summer and add to it til this job is over. idk. i’m tired of covering my mirrors ‘cause i don’t like looking at myself. i’ve got 400$ in savings to start my Boob Fund and if you want to help, i have donation links below! paypal.me/treesinspace / cash.me/$junabugs (p.s. send paypal donations as GIFT FOR FRIENDS/FAMILY, not PURCHASE, or paypal will think i’m a merchant and ask for tracking info)
seventeen year old creature-boy Light Yagami, who is Totally Interested In Women And Definitely Not A Serial Killer, looks at porn magazines (porn magazines is generous; he's looking at scantily clad women, really) in the privacy of his own room and is so supremely weird about it that L, the man that has been Intently Observing Him Through Hidden Cameras, sees him doing it and goes, "oh. something is wrong." meanwhile, Light is internally monologuing himself into a frenzy. "ha!! take THAT. what're you gonna do now, L!? I look SO normal!!" but he doesn't. he never has. he never will. he's just used to everybody around him being too distracted by his artfully styled bangs and extensive collection of soft knitwear to notice his incredibly off-putting demeanor. he is So used to it, in fact, that he doesn't quite grasp that someone might find the image of him lounging around on his stomach and kicking his feet in the air while he stares at breasts to be. a little different. maybe even. disingenuous. oh no. shock and horror, shock and horror.
Them afterwards tho:
