So this started as a fanfiction guide but know it’s just kinda listing how UK schools work
I was kinda looking at some teacher!jon aus and I realised that not everyone knows what a british classroom looks like so I figured ‘hey I’m bored, might as well make a checklist of stuff’. This can also be used for pretty much anything teacher related and is based off of my own schooling I guess.
Desks:
There are no such things as single desks here (idk about private schools but fuck private schools). There are two person desks where you will have a partner to discuss stuff with.
Usually the desks will be formatted in rows facing the board, the desks are touching so you will have a person either side, though I have had cases where there are just rows of non-touching desks.
Other formats include having the desks in a semi-circle to form a sort of theatre around the teacher. You can also have group tables, three desks pushed together so that you are in a group of six.
Whiteboard:
Every classroom has both a whiteboard and an interactive whiteboard. Idk if it’s different in America but I keep seeing people make aus with blackboards.
Canteen(yes I know this isn’t classroom related just roll with it):
Our food is better than yours apparently. The school I went to have us plates and cutlery (though recently they changed to wooden cutlery) for meals and cardboard containers for smaller stuff. Pretty much every school buys their stuff from the same company so I’m guessing there isn’t much different.
Sixth Form:
Sixth form (year 12 and year 13, ages 16-18) are the last two years of school and when you study your A Levels. Some schools have a uniform, some (like mine) let you wear normal clothes but ban things such as shoulders. Since the classes are smaller, people will usually get along better with the teachers and lessons will become more fun. Also they generally don’t care if you swear as long as you are quiet about it.
On uniform, teachers have one too, it’s not as strict but I did have a teacher who always wore a tweed suit so, you know,
Subjects:
I’m gonna briefly go over what I do know:
The most common books studied for English are 1984, The Inspector Calls, Romeo and Juliet, Macbeth, Pride and Prejudice. If you really really want to get it right just read the OCR English Literature Spec
History apparently studies the Cold War and the Tudors among other things. A Level History is mostly medieval stuff I think
Yeah I have not got anything else
