Back again cause I watched some of Charlie Cox's interviews and I'm just... so happy that we can see him as Daredevil again, can't wait for the movie
yo, okay, so, after Prickly Pair, im 99% sure that not only is corrupted steven going to happen, the gems aren’t going to be able to talk him down. they’ll try, but much like they did in this episode, they’ll get (emotionally) pricked and slammed into a wall.
it’s going to be the humans, specifically, connie and greg.
steven seems to be putting a lot of pressure on himself specifically when it comes to the gems; his expectation of himself to be ‘needed’ and to help everyone really seems to come from his time with them; which, while obviously not intentional on the gems part, has undeniably at this point messed steven up.
there’s also the matter of his strong emotions are sending him spiralling into his gem powers- out of touch with his human half.
so, when inevitably, steven says ‘oh wyrm’ and becomes corrupted, i think the people who will need to convince him to let everyone else in will be connie and greg.
why connie?
in the main series, connie really has been a grounding force in steven’s life. from teaching him more about his gem powers through fusion, standing beside him in battle, and by being with him during his Not Fun Time in homeworld, she’s always helped to carry him through the rough times. sometimes literally!
AND THEN THERE’S MINDFUL EDUCATION.
”But it’s okay to think about it!” “You have to be honest about how bad it feels so you can move on!”
these two lines alone from that scene really are what steven needs to hear right now. he needs to be reminded of what he’s learned, how far he’s come, and how letting his emotions out healthily is okay.
why greg?
he’s the only parental figure who HASN’T done the above-mentioned ‘problem shoving’. he’s always been there for steven, and has only told stories of his past to steven when steven explicitly asked for them.
what really solidified it for me was Bluebird, when instead of forcing steven to save him, greg dealt with the problem himself:
in doing so, he took responsibility for his OWN distress, and didn’t force steven to step in for him. he made his own sacrifice. this is really important, as the problem in Prickly Pear really seemed to come down to role models, with how steven ended up being a bad one to his creation, and greg is an absolutely stellar example of one in steven’s life.
greg universe has always done the best he can as steven’s father, often being the person steven turns to whenever the gems are having issues. it would make sense both in terms of character, and thematically, for him to be one of the catalysts for finally cracking steven’s tough outer shell.
in conclusion:
i may have legion brainrot

watching Guardians of the Galaxy: Vol. 3 felt like saying goodbye to my high school friend group before we all left for different colleges, knowing that while we might keep in touch, we were never going to be this group ever again, and a huge chapter of our lives was over...and i can't remember the last time i cried that much in the theater.
