Rewatching the pilot for comfort reasons, and the way Coulson approaches May in the office about wanting her on his team... Tells her it's not a combat op gig, how they'd be the ones picking the ops, making the calls... No red tape... And he quips with his stupid smirk, amused, "This is where they actually make the red tape, isn't it? I always wondered."

She smiles. She misses it. Misses the action. Misses him. She confined herself to a desk bc she couldn't trust herself in the field after Bahrain. She can't get hurt again at a desk (besides a nasty paper cut 💀)... But that doesn't mean she doesn't miss her old life in the field. She just prioritized keeping her emotions securely under lock and key over what she wanted bc it's what she thinks she deserves after what happened. She can't afford to hurt anyone else. It's safer this way for everybody.

Thank goodness one (1) Phillip J. Coulson convinced her to leave the desk and red tape creation behind to "just drive the Bus." 🥹🫶🏻

Diana Wynne Jones wins big once again for understanding that the funniest way to write an isekai/portal fantasy is from the point of view of the people living in the fantasy world who look at the character who got isekai’d from our world and are like ‘WHAT is that guy’s deal???’

Howl/Howell stumbling back into his moving castle drunk after a night with his rugby bros is like the second funniest scene in that book, closely followed by poor Sophie getting reverse isekai’d and taking a day trip to Wales and suffering the terrible ordeal of a ride in a car.

A List of Very Convincing Reasons why Elrond Peredhel Cannot become Noldor High King after Gil-Galad, written by Dnorle Lehderep

He's like Finwe's great great great grandson; that's clearly too many generations away.

Also he's technically a Feanorian and they're like, super cursed and also dispossessed so maybe he shouldn't be in the line of succession.

No one can agree on whether his claim comes from the Nolofinwean or Feanorian lines. Clearly the best solution to this is for him to not be king.

Galadriel is right there.

He turns into a bird sometimes and everyone knows that birds can't be elf-kings that would be silly.

Yes, he does have one of the three rings "for elvish kings" but Cirdan also has one of those, and he's not an elvish king, so frankly it doesn't matter.

Gil-Galad's will, which states that Elrond inherits the crown, was clearly forged. I will not explain how. Trust me on this one.

C'mon guys he's not even technically an elf. Yes Melian was a queen over elves without being an elf. Yes Dior was a half-elf elf king. I don't see what that has to do with anything.

Do we really need a king?? Apparently some edain are experimenting with a new system called "democracy" and fraknly that sounds a lot better and cooler than having another king.

We'd have to get the crown resized again and that would be a lot of work.

He wears his hair partially down. In public. If that's not scandalous I don't konw what is.

I know his followers keep talking about how great of a leader he is, but they're mostly Feanorians, so clearly that doesn't count.

Galadriel. Is. Right. There.

He probably doesn't even speak Quenya. Don't ask anyone at court to confirm this.

He's very busy revolutionizing the field of medicine in Rivendell right now, please leave me him alone.

Clearly he doesn't wear enough jewelry to be a proper Noldor king.

I was out on a ramble with one of my dogs just now, and it really was a nice ramble. Bit of trespassing, bit of ice. Walking right overtop the stream, as it's been quite cold for the past few weeks, though it was relatively warm today. It was along a part of the stream I'd never been along, as it is decidedly not our property, and not conveniently along the road.

So I was out rambling, and came across a very nice tree arch, a bridge, some kind of abandoned tiller thing??? and a couple frozen waterfalls. It was along a very briar and bramble and bush filled section of the creek, though, and I had to get a little creative getting around some of these obstacles.

My dog, however, had no such qualms. He was off darting over and under all these brambles and branches and all such, and often looked back to see why I was being so slow, while I clumsily, cumbersomely, awkwardly crawled under branches or carefully held back thorns as I attempted to step over them.

I felt rather like a parent whose child was trying to show them something, squeezing between fenceposts that the parent had to either climb over or go around, as the child wonders why their parent's being so slow.

And then I wondered if that's how Aragorn felt traveling with the hobbits? He's been in these woods since he was 2, knows every tree and rock and leaf. He knows what he's doing. But they're traveling and there's a briar patch, and he's all ready to tell the hobbits 'alright, we'll have to cut through this. get behind me so you don't get hurt.' ... But they're already darting under and around and through it like Brer Rabbit himself. Pippin calls back 'Strider, you wouldn't even let us stop for second breakfast! what are you doing back there?' And even injured Frodo is skipping through it like a deer, and he's wondering how exactly he thought he was this great woodsman when these hobbits who have never stepped a foot outside of the Shire in their lives are just. staring at him. from the other side of the briar patch. that he can't get through.

Good Friday

Good Friday

The more you think about it, the worse it gets.

No part of the Passion Gospel, the Gospel for Good Friday, has any hope.

Even the tender moments – Jesus asking John to take care of his mother, Joseph and Nicodemus making sure that Jesus has a proper burial – they’re just people dealing with the fallout from death.

You know what Joseph and Nicodemus are thinking about while they’re wrapping Jesus’ body up for burial? How much this sucks.

And whether the Romans will stop at killing Jesus. Or will they, and other followers of Jesus, be next?

The more you think about it, the worse it gets.

You know what Joseph and Nicodemus aren’t thinking about? How anything good can come from this.

Much less how God is already using all of it to do more good than either of them, or anyone on Good Friday, could ever imagine.

And yet, you and I know, that’s exactly what’s happening. Because you and I know something that Joseph and Nicodemus don’t know. Not on that worst of Friday’s.

They don’t know that Sunday is coming.

But that’s how it is, when you’re where they are. When you are right in the middle of the very worst.

When you and I are right in the middle of the very worst, there is nothing that human eyes can see to tell us that it’s ever going to get any better.

When that’s where you are, the only open question is whether it’s going to get worse.

In the middle of everything that you are dealing with right now – whether it’s death or illness, divorce or the end of a friendship, job loss or financial problems – while you’re waiting to see whether you’ve hit bottom or if it’s going to get worse. You get Joseph and Nicodemus. You are right there with them.

The more you think about what you’re dealing with, the worse it gets.

There’s nothing that our human eyes can see to tell us that anything good can come from what you’re going through.

And yet, you and I know, that’s not true.

Because you and I know something. Something that’s easy to lose sight of when you’re in the middle. Something that’s hard to hold onto when you’re scared.

But it doesn’t matter. It’s okay if we lose sight of it. Because it’s still true. Even if we’re scared.

Today is Good Friday. And Good Friday shows us that none of it, not even the very worst, can hold down our God.

Because Sunday is coming.

I've recently started rewatching Agents of Shield with my sister who hasn't seen it before, so here are some rewatch-inspired thoughts about the first half of season one:

The Bus Kids are all such babies! Especially Skye.

May gets knocked out in each of the first two episodes. It's definitely taking her a moment to readjust to fieldwork.

So many Shield water bottles.

Even though I know what Ward actually is, he still makes me like the version of himself we see here.

May and Coulson's one-sided conversations are amazing.

I honestly can't remember. Did Ward's younger brother die in the well? The flashes we see aren't super clear.

Interesting that Coulson tells Skye that there was a little girl in Bahrain, but he doesn't mention that she died.

I'd never realized that we get a glimpse of the carvings during Coulson's flashbacks of being revived.

Speaking of which, I thought looking at the carvings was what triggered his instinct to carve, but the drawings on the whiteboard in Eye Spy don't seem to set him off.

I love the way that when Coulson is kidnapped, he doesn't say the "Previously on" or "We'll return in a moment" bits. I remembered that from later seasons, but it's a nice touch to start it now.

Something I wish we got a little more of was Coulson comforting/encouraging Fitz??? That dynamic was played out a little bit, yes, but I feel like there's something there.

The way how Coulson would clasp Fitz shoulder as he was on the verge of tears, and in s4 when Coulson laid his forehead on Fitz' head telling him it was gonna be alright, and how he held Fitz' forearms as he was spiralling after coming out of the Framework....

Do you think Coulson was imitating what his father did for him when he was little? Comfort through physicality? I'd like to think so...

But also, Coulson has to know about Fitz' dad and how he left. He's gotta know there's a sort of hurt there. Maybe he feels the need to step in a little bit and show him what a real father is like? That it's okay to not only break, but to also be gentle.
