5am thoughts: on the one hand, hotd expects its viewers to be smart enough to magically realize that s2 took place over the course of six months, pick up on the subtlest most nothing clues to deduce that laenor died offscreen, that rhaenyra had a religious reawakening to the gods of old valyria offscreen, that aemond went from devastation at becoming a kinslayer to gleefully burning entire regions of his kingdom as prince regent, and that alicent, who once stepped in front of a dragon for her son, is now willing to see him publicly beheaded at rhaenyra's earliest convenience, among a score of other things, but also dumb enough to not nitpick inconsistent timelines, geographical errors, and abrupt episode-to-episode changes in the characters.
sure, jan
Me to my enemies -I hope your fav character gets written by Condal and Co .
I find it fascinating how the general audience seems to view Viserys as this wise and peaceful ruler, girldad and loving husband who did nothing wrong his entire life.
Yet even according to show!canon he continually impregnated Aemma in hopes for a male heir, despite her having MULTIPLE life threatening pregnancies. We have a scene of him raping underage Alicent. He ignores all his sons and daughter resulting from said rapes. But he's such a cool dad because he lies to the entire realm on behalf of his firstborn daughter's bastards! He's a dragon dreamer and he believes the big Ice and Fire prophecy, yet he has no interest in his second daughter who clearly has visions of sorts. Certified girldad. He never ensures the safety of Alicent's children after his death because he didn't even protect them when he was alive. He does nothing when his son gets maimed, in fact, he protects his grandson who did it. He has a family dinner on the brink of death and we're supposed to feel bad for him because the kids are making a scene. Up to this point he simply ignores hostilities and never tries to make peace between the two sides.
But apparently he's smart and kind and progressive for naming a woman heir (out of fear of his brother getting to sit on the iron throne).
At least no, Aegon can't rape anymore, karma is real 😌🥰
1) If your gut instinct to an actor being uncomfortable with lines about their genitals being mutilated is to say they deserve it because they play a bad person, you are objectively a bad person. Aegon isn’t real, Tom is. And he has to say lines designed to humiliate his character about his penis in front of the whole cast without being warned beforehand and then forced to talk about it despite being uncomfortable. Objectively, that is gross
2) Aegon isn’t a rapist in the real version, it’s Black propaganda in the show (If they can call everything that is in book, the real canon, propaganda, than I can do the same to the show, which is shitty Pro Team Black fix it fanfic at this point). Aegon is a rapist for one reason and one reason only: To make the audience Team Black without question
3) Tom actively tried to stop Aegon from being a rapist in season 1. He read the book and knows the story, and therefore knew that people would never find Aegon sympathetic because there’s no coming back from rape, so this weird, gross “Gotcha!” you think you have Is pointless
Bestie can I be so for real I am so upset about the way Aemond is written. Season 1 Aemond is basically book Daeron but angsty, but Season 2 Aemond is like book Daemon (disloyal, wants power). Not that book Aemond was someone to applaud for loving his family, that dude was a psycho but he was such a LOYAL psycho. Smh.
Bestie you are absolutely right. Season 1 Aemond and season 2 Aemond are so disconnected and there's no through line or explanation for why. Seemingly they just decided to go with a different characterization suddenly, maybe because they realized Aemond was fairly sympathetic in the first season.
His true characterization is loyalty to his family and willingness to do anything for them, and Aegon and Aemond are loyal to each other. Go to Storm's End and betroth yourself to secure an ally for the Greens? Aemond will do it for Aegon. Kill your nephew and probably guarantee war? Aegon will throw a feast to celebrate and support Aemond's actions. Need to take out one of the Black's dragons? Aegon and Aemond will attack together. Aegon is injured and unable to rule? Aemond will rule as regent and refuse to take the throne from him. Aegon and all his surviving children are missing, his mother and sister imprisoned, and Rhaenyra and Daemon have taken king's landing with help from houses in the Riverlands? Aemond will burn everything to get vengeance for his family and draw Daemon out to battle against him. Aemond takes down Daemon but dies in the process? Aegon orders a massive statue to commemorate his brother and honor his loyalty and legacy.
But because the Greens are supposed to be caricature disorganized incompetent and selfish villains, they hate each other and put each other down even in the midst of war. Aemond has to be an outright evil and self-interested, power hungry anime baddie who hates his lazy, hedonistic, sadistic brother Aegon apparently 🙄 and Helaena is just there in the background as a non character at this point and everything that defined her character in the book is removed.
It really is out of character and makes no sense for Aemond to take out his own brother and his dragon when they're at war with a faction of the family that has several dragons and that faction poses a much more significant threat to Aemond than Aegon does... It's really just lazy writing. Instead of actually exploring the character motivations of the two, like how Lucerys' murder led to Blood and Cheese and how the brothers feel about that, it's turned into "Aemond wants to kill Aegon over petty childish bullying and because he wants the throne." Like be for real 🙄
The same little boy
My brother is hostage to my grandsire and mother, and they tell him that a war of dragons can yet be avoided. Otto fears to upset the order of things.
Rewatched Viserys dinner speech and Alicent and Rhaenyra look sad and like they believe him. Aemonds not even listening because he stopped thinking of him as anything to him the night he lost his eye. Aegon and Deamon look at him with doubt and irritation when he says he loves them all so dearly and apparently Haleana does too but her shot was cut.
The only people listening carefully are Rhaenyra and Daemons kids because they have been living in I’m so sheltered land for the past 6 years on Dragonstone and they believe his words at face value.
Also luke started that dinner fight. Aemond was literally staring into space and luc started laughing at him rudely. I loved the fight sequence because Aegon stopping luc and baela from intervening was like no 4 on 1 this time bitches let’s see how Jacey can do 1:1. Aegon clearly did feel guilt for the night Aemond was maimed weather his mother shamed him or not.
Team Green kids are mad but god damn are the Team Black kids spoiled entitled brats.
"alicent holds love for our enemy" | hotd s2 final trailer.
"Your beauty never ever scared me"
You tell me it's not about Aemond Targaryen? The scared insecure child that he is inside? The one who deems himself unworthy because he didn't get a dragon as fast as others? The one that a second something worked for him (claiming Vhagar) he lost an eye? Making him "ugly" and "scary looking"? Aemond whi covers his eye so they don't look at him with disgust? Insecurities turning into rage/hatred
And there is the Reader who loves him despite the anger and hurt he carries inside of him. Reader finds it beautiful.
Aemond in season 2.
