i really dislike it when people don’t understand perfectionism.

like, it isn’t always “person who has tons of motivation and spends a ton of time making this thing *just* right”

wayyyyyy more often than not it’s:

”I know that if I try to make this thing, it won’t be perfect, so I simply won’t try.”

which definitely sounds bad, right? but when you realize that it doesn’t just apply to voluntarily making art, then you realize how perfectionism is not at all a good thing in any context.

“i know that if I try to work on this assignment right now, it won’t be good enough, so i’ll wait until the last possible moment so that I have something forcing me to do it.”

”i know that I should start going to the gym, but I won’t see any improvement right away, so I just won’t.”

”i know that i should brush my teeth tonight, but that won’t be good enough to undo the fact that i haven’t brushed them 4 days in a row, so I just won’t.”

perfectionism isn’t the uncontrollable impulse to make things “just right”. (although it can occasionally manifest as this.)

perfectionism is the absolute, psychological inability to accept the concepts of “good enough” and “better than nothing”. even when you spell it out for yourself in a long text post like this.

hey quick note, so the device I usually use for most of my school work and work related stuff has had a new smoothwall extension installed blocking almost everything I can think of from, socials to movies, including tumblr (currently typing on my really horrible phone) so things are gonna be on hold for a while. its created a ton of problems not only for personal use (as its my main device since this phone is barely usable) but for schoolwork especially media where watching TV shows and movies, and looking at games is my schoolwork. until this issue is fixed I'm afraid I won't be posting, I don't know if this will be fixed in a week or months from now but I'll try and get back to you soon -Amina

london livelihood (the sequel)

carrying on from my previous post after leicester square we finally got to the most exciting part of the trip, winter wonderland. surprisingly a lot of people were only there for the food, which i was very surprised by, i think the main event is the rides, no? first up was the Eurocoaster, i went with two friends who i'm gonna name Tall and Blue at the time it seemed very scary but it was nothinggggg compared to the other two rides we went on after. it twists and turns and went up and down at the most unexpected moments, i think Tall was also wary of the fact she was sitting inbetween two motion sick people but thank gosh nothing went wrong. all three of us screamed our lungs out and then Tall said the ride wasn't even scary?? i think she screamed the most lolol. next up was my choice, The Boomer, a big 360 swing that also rotates the carriage so you're spinning upside down. this was without a doubt the scariest ride i've ever been on. i mean, go big or go home right?? when we first got strapped in i heavily regretted all my life decisions and chose that specific moment to tell Blue about my fear of height. remembering it gives me goosebumps. after all the mayhem, the ride came to a stop at the top and for a solid 5 minutes we had the best view of not only winter wonderland but the whole of london. i think for a few minutes i loved the height more than anything. we took a small break to cool off because that ride is exhilarating before walking around so Blue could have her pick. That ended up being the Munich Looping. I'm quite sad that I didn't get to keep the mid-ride picture because i managed to keep a straight face the entire time but alas! there is no proof. We explored the rest of the park after that! Took photos and met up with friends where we tried churros and macarons (overrated imo) I slept the entire ride home. I think it's definitely something I'm going to remember for a long time afterwards. The image of london from the top of the Boomer and the chill from the cold is engrained in the forefront of my memory until next time! Amimi

start of summer (sunshine and sadness)

Sun 10 July 2022, 3pm the alliteration for the title came so smoothly its silly. this isn't a monthly recap but i just felt like dumping so here i am. i just read a short story called The Girl He Left Behind (10/10 would recommend) and am ugly crying. Induction Week came and went a lot quicker then I thought it would. overall, pretty good! i love all my subjects and the people in all 3 of my classes are great! there was some ugly stuff that reared its head right towards the end but i'm trying my best to pay it no mind. so it's been officially decided on fine art, media and sociology! i'm just waiting on gcse results, despite definitely not getting the grades i wanted in sociology due to a spontaneous breakdown during the second exam from stress, but on the very positive side i'm pretty sure i still passed which is all you really need to study it at a level. i'm doing two more creative subjects and one pretty hard essay based subject to even out, which i think is a pretty good mix! for transition work over the summer i've got a personal sketchbook to fill for fine art, a presentation to make about myself for media and then some tasks that are yet to be set for sociology. one of the themes for the sketchbook is films/tv which i'm super stoked for - i think i'll post about the sketchbook and media presentation a lot on here as i make it and the final result aswell. that's all for now! finding the new display for when you click on someones blog weird, like i’m so used to it being on the far right of my laptop screen so to have it displayed in the middle just looks.. wrong.

Isn’t it funny how humanity seems to have a knack for turning anything into art? Clothes became fashion, buildings became architecture, plants became gardens, the list goes on.

The way humans romaniticize and find beauty in everything is adorable.

london livelihood

14:38, 15 Dec 22 sorry i didn't post before, we ended up back home at 10pm and i was severely drained from the days events yesterday i had another school trip! believe it or not, to oxford, i'll write about that in another post. so my trip was on the 13th! with school. it started off awful, the friend i initially intended to go with was ill so she couldn't come, i was convinced i was going to be alone and miserable, at the start it was depressing but things became really fun as time went on and i started interacting with people. our first stop was buckingham palace, super cool! i think it's a really beautiful place but it was overshadowed with the hecticness of everyone trying to sort themselves out among the crowd of tourists. next up was the london eye and then trafalgar and then leicester square, a dispute reared it's ugly head but i managed to have fun with a friend i'll dub as Mal (it's short for Malificent, get the disney reference lolol) unfortunately the london eye was closed off, my school refunded us for that part of the trip though! we weren't in trafalgar for very long, simply to take photos and get registrated. flirted with a cashier in M&M world, walked around, almost knocked a LEGO display over, explored tons of places, ended it off with a date with Mal in Maccies, because sweet curry sauce is the best thing ever. that was about it for leicester square. next up was covent garden and ohmygodddd. GLOSSIER??? the store was so pretty and they had those disposable applicators for everything so you could try out all the products. boybrow, cloud paint and lash slick were some of the best products i tried. NARS. in all the stores where i live they are never stocked from how quickly they sell out so when i saw a whole store dedicated to them i was sooo happy. their pressed setting powder is to die for i'm telling you. next up was Reformation, a bit of a let down, they had nice stuff here and there but it was nothing to wow at, POLO Ralph Lauren was also super nice inside, it felt like a movie set. we went to two more less notable stores, disappointed because we somehow completely missed the Dior and Chanel stores but we only had an hour to explore so we wouldn't have had enough time . i'm afraid this post is getting a bit too long to post so head on over to part 2!
