rereading my own writing is just a constant fluctuation between "damn, girl, you wrote this? (affectionate)" and "damn, girl, you wrote this? (derogatory)"

the world needs more eddie roundtree angst fics in my opinion

felt the need to add some tags for carlos sainz because my heart breaks a little bit each time i see any incorrect usage of spanish or google translate 😭😭

(no hate to any writers! i just thought this might be of use for some writers, if they’d like to improve)

for all the non-native/fluent writers that are using spanish

I appreciate trying to incorporate spanish for Miguel. However, I see you guys saying you’re using google translate and it’s not the best translator as it translates it literally and sounds awkward. A better translator is spanishdict.com and it looks like this,,,,

I put in “you look beautiful today” and it translated it in different ways and shows you what region uses what and how you can use it in different contexts. 100% way better than google.

Also, I’m Mexican so from what I’ve seen from my family members, specifically my uncles and dad, use for the spouses as terms of endearment are cariño, mi amor (my love), mi corazón (my heart), mi reina (my queen) mi vida (my life), and mami. We also don’t use vosotros or vos.

Honestly, I’d also be down to help proofread spanish parts or help see if a sentence or phrase makes sense!!

Hope this helps and can I just say I’m having the time of my life going through these tags.

6 Tips on Writing An Actually Inclusive Reader Insert:

1. Do a ctrl + f search of the colors red and pink. If these colors are being used to describe the reader in any way, delete it.

2. Instead of "blushing", use "goosebumps", "shivers", "avoiding eye contact", etc. It still conveys the same thing, and you can get more creative than just using "blushing" 10,000 times.

3. Don't mention being pale or becoming pale (like, seriously, this is just a given). If you want to talk about the reader looking sick or dying, use "ghastly" or "sunken eyes", etc. Again, this is a great opportunity to be more creative in your language as well as inclusive

4. For body-inclusivity, don't talk about the reader sharing clothes with someone. I personally would not fit into anything that Nancy Wheeler owns, so yeah, let's just not do this

5. Don't mention hair. A lot of us can't just wash our hair and move on with our day. Don't get me started on "running their fingers across their hair". Just refrain from descriptions of styling, washing, and touching the reader's hair.

6. Don't put pictures of pretty, white girls for "aesthetics". It honestly just deters readers, and it's just not inclusive in the slightest

That's it, that's basically all you need to do to be inclusive. I'll admit, as a lighter skin POC writer, some of these did slip my mind when I used to write, but what's important is actually listening to readers and encouraging inclusivity in your writing.

If anyone has any other suggestions, feel free to put your own.

Only been watching The Pitt for a few days but Mel King is THE best autistic character ever written in a medical drama. She doesn't "make connections no one else can" or "just see things differently" or any other Savant with Special Abilities stereotypical bullshit, she's a resident physician who's exactly as intelligent and capable as any other resident physician in the same year. She hates unnecessary yelling because it's loud and annoying, not because she's completely incapable of handling conflict. She usually keeps her stimming subtle enough to hide but sometimes she can't. She loves having a furry critter to pet. She accommodates an autistic patient by lowering the lights and closing the doors because she understands the sensory nightmare of an active medical setting. She speaks in a straightforward and honest way but she isn't an overtly rude inconsiderate asshole. She misses some jokes and takes things too literally on occasion but she does have a sense of humor and she is funny. She speaks up against misinformation and parent panic about autism and other developmental disabilities. She has emotions. She looks at a video of a lava lamp on her phone to chill. Doctor Mel King you have my entire heart

Oh and now some Matt angst. That boy lives in a world of angst so he will fit right in.

You couldn't even bare to look at him. He hovered in your living room like a lost puppy. He played with his fingers and then the hem of his hoodie over and over in a nervous cycle. You'd been talking for hours, you were getting nowhere and your feelings hadn't changed. You hurt from head to toe and you didn't find yourself any closer to forgiveness.

"What you did was..." you heaved in a weighted breath to steady yourself, trying desperately not to shout cause you knew the walls were paper thin and the baby next door was having sleeping trouble lately.

"Unforgiveable I know" he finished your sentence, his voice it's usual low calm tenor. It was almost irritating to you now. How could he be so... still?

"What we had was so special and you walked away from it" your words shook as your spoke, your breath rattling into your lungs.

He nodded, eyes downcast to the floor, "I know"

He stepped forward and in tandem you stepped back, "Please don't"

"You won't even let me touch you?" he asked, hurt instantly painting his face. His eyebrows were scrunched inwards and his mouth pulled down into a frown.

You rubbed the heal of your palm into your tired eyes, "Matt I...." you paused, "No, I won't let you touch me. I need you to leave"

His face broke it's steely gaze even further as he began to cry, you turned your back to him unable to witness him cry. The ache in your chest grew larger as you listened to his heavy breathing.

"Please" he whispered, "Just try?"

You sighed but didn't turn around, "I did"
