okay, lemme go on a tiny rant here that might piss some people off..

I’m a tad bit annoyed at the way pronouns for Tav are used in the BG3 fandom, because the more I look through BG3 related posts that mention Tav, it’s just like IMMEDIATELY assumed that Tav is female and therefore most of the time, Tav is referred to with she/her pronouns and it’s just like HUH??

you guys do realize, that men and nonbinary folks play this game, right? and that the concept of Tav IN ITSELF basically means “player insert of no specific gender that lets the player choose which pronouns and name are used for them”

and you just assume, that everyone has a female Tav?? What??

it’s just really frustrating to me, that we have this character in the fandom that is BY ALL MEANS entirely unspecified in basically ALL DETAILS apart from the fact that they go through the story of BG3, in however shape or form they may do that

maybe only I personally am pissed off by this, since I’m a person that only uses they/them and he/him pronouns and gets pretty strong dysphoria from imagining myself as female, but I’ve noticed that I’m not the only non female person that gets annoyed at this

sure, if the author of, for instance a fanfic, clarifies, that Tav is specifically female in the scenario that they wrote, then I (and everyone else that feels this way) don’t have any right to complain about that, it was specified

but very often, the she/her pronouns and all kinds of feminine features are just randomly thrown at the reader, without the gender of Tav ever being discussed before and that just frustrates me

I’m not saying that I have anything against people writing fanfic or scenarios with a female Tav in mind, but it would just be nice if they could clarify that in the description of it, before I go and read it only to be disappointed by the fact that they were writing about a female/afab Tav the entire time

yeah sorry this became really long, but it’s just something I’ve noticed recently and it’s been annoying me quite a bit, so here you go

again, I don’t mean any disrespect towards any writer, I just personally think that it would be way easier to either 1. just use they/them pronouns for Tav or 2. specify the gender of Tav in the description of the fanfic beforehand

Imposter syndrome and ADHD

so, I am currently waiting to finally get tested for ADHD (a therapist that I talked to suggested that it may be inattentive type ADHD), but I just keep having imposter syndrome about it, because sometimes I notice “typical ADHD behavior” while I’m doing it, so I keep thinking, that maybe I’m subconsciously behaving like that on purpose or something. Is that a normal thing to happen with people that have ADHD or does this say something about me? I know that I’m not tested for anything yet, so maybe I just don’t have ADHD, but it would really explain a lot of things and also help me feel better about not being so good at certain things. So, is it normal to have imposter syndrome about something like that?

This reminds me of the time when I went into the city with a friend and we met their kinda weird Christian relative that proceeded to ask me if I was a boy or a girl because she seriously couldn’t tell. I know she probably hated having to ask that question (and also getting the answer “both and neither” from me) but it’s still one of my favorite moments of my life to this day🫧

That’s exactly what I thought about his speech as well!

I mean, Jayce was literally straight up telling Viktor that he was always beautiful to him. With all of his different sides, problems and quirks. Including his disability. Differently than Viktor, I think it’s pretty clear that he never saw Viktor’s disability as anything that made him “lesser” than anyone else. Sure, he wanted to help Viktor “fix” his illness so he could like, LIVE. But he never wanted to turn Viktor into someone non-disabled, he didn’t see the need for it, because Viktor’s disability is simply a part of him, not a problem to “fix” and forget about. Jayce’s entire speech is pretty much a rejection of that the idea of perfection that Viktor seemingly carried with himself for years.

Pretty much “You don’t need to be perfect to be lovable, you don’t need to be perfect for me to love you. Because if you were perfect, you wouldn’t be YOU.”

I don’t often make my own posts, but I’ve been going a little insane about some of the posts I’ve been seeing about Jayce’s speech to Viktor in the finale.

So many people are like “um, Viktor had a terminal illness, how can Jayce tell him he was never broken??? He was DYING??”

And like, yeah. He was. But this isn’t Jayce ignoring that.

He’s acknowledging it by telling Viktor: You aren’t defined by your illness. You might have felt like you were lesser, or broken, or imperfect because of it, but I need you to know that you’re worth just as much as anyone else. And I understand everything you’ve done, because you’ve been hurting. And I love you anyway.

He’s not saying “your illness didn’t matter”. He’s saying “just because you were disabled doesn’t mean you’re worth less”.

I thought it was actually a really beautiful way of tackling the way that people who are disabled or chronically ill are viewed by others, or even by themselves: either defined entirely by their disability/illness, or considered lesser. Or how disabled/ill people are only allowed to be happy and inspirational messages that people can do anything, or they have to be sad figures incapable of anything and only deserving of pity. And this is Jayce saying no, that isn’t all you are. He’s showing Viktor that he sees all of the complexity, and the hurt, and he sees ALL of who Viktor is.

Anyway, I’m tired, and this isn’t all articulated perfectly, but I wanted to throw it out there.
