dj takes the wine from her, taking a sip. he doesn't really like wine that much, admittedly, but he's not about to refuse something maya's offering him. he takes a second sip for good measure before handing it back to her with a chuckle, "i would love to see ya officiate. i feel like you'd have a really good opening monologue. or sermon? i guess it isn't a sermon if you're not a priest or something." his cheeks redden a bit and he shrugs, "y'know what i mean anyway." he feels like he's usually a little more charming than this, or, at least, a little smoother. he's trying to reign in the nervous energy, especially now that he's standing so close, he's afraid it's oozing off of him, affecting the vibe. "really nice, huh? what's that look like? getting you refills every half hour? carrying your shoes when your feet start to hurt?" he teases, recovering his 'cool' just a little, he thinks. "dom told you i was voted 'most helpful' in our frat, right?" dj jokes. his superlative had actually been 'best at keg stands,' but that was a skill better suited for the bachelor party a few weeks back. "you're barely gonna believe what a good personal assistant i can be." for maya, anyway. for anyone else? the effort wouldn't be quite as strong, that's for sure.
HIS SMILE . it makes her entire brain feel like it's restarting for a second . she remembers the very first time he smiled at her - dj was always one of dom's only friends that would actually say hi to her , ask her how her day was . it made her flustered then , and she's trying not to show it ( HE ) still has that effect on her . maya lets out an easy laugh , noting the way he glances her over . self-consciously , she pushes some of her blow-dried curls over her shoulder . she'd be lying if she said she hadn't purposely tried to look a little bit nicer for tonight . the dress code was ' casual smart ' and maya spent hours poring over what that could mean before settling on a tight turtleneck and matching black skirt . maya's smile brightens more , eyes falling to his mouth for a second , just as her back gently falls to the wall behind her . DJ IS CLOSE . maya can smell his expensive cologne . she busies herself by taking another sip of wine , before offering some to dj . " that's what i've been saying . i should be the one marrying them or something equally as important . " maya laughs , cheeks colouring . " just a bridesmaid , though . " dom's fiancee , lucy , picked her best friend for maid of honour which maya cannot truly be remotely mad at . " responsibility , huh ? they gave it to the right guy . " she teases . " if you're really nice to me tonight , i may be convinced to help you with some of that uber responsibility , you know . . "
anwar lifts his head slightly, lips still brushing her jaw as a little smirk slips onto his face. he chuckles, "i though you liked that about me."

plot idea: i was just trying to have a one night stand with a stranger at the club/bar so i lied about my name and entire life when we met. but after we hooked up i kept thinking about you, so we ended up hooking up again another night and i kept lying. and it keeps happening and now i’m in too deep to tell you the truth so i’m just living this fake life whenever i see you but i really like you
ok but listen i really want a modern romeo and juliet plot. the capulet and montague families both own rivalling businesses set in london or nyc or la or somewhere industrial. romeo and juliet met at some elite party that neither of them were supposed to be at, and thus begins their immediate attraction and soon-after hidden love entanglement. they meet in the nooks and crannies of the city, places that their families would never think to look for them; they walk about the city in an almost disguise, under fake names so that they can enjoy themselves like normal people. it’s an illicit romantic affair, a forbidden love that can never come up to surface. they’re starcrossed lovers and no-one loves harder than them.
an almost unabashedly excited smile slips onto his lips as maya comes up to him, a shrug rolling off of his shoulders, "what can i say? dom's got good taste in friends. and i'm just too nice to leave him." he teases, eyes flicking over maya in a way that he hopes isn't obvious. she looks so incredible, he's tempted to say so, but decides he'll wait a bit. maybe after a drink. or two. it's been so long since he's seen her. he was almost nervous for tonight. to see her again. years ago, when they'd met, dom would have absolutely killed him for thinking his sister was pretty. but now? dominic is distracted and dj is determined to spend time with his little sister. it was wedding week, anything could happen. dj slides his hands in his pockets, moving closer to maya, "excited for the wedding? sister of the groom seems pretty damn important too. you should've been best woman alongside me." it would have been a very good excuse to spend more time together at the very least. "all this responsibility, i could've used an assistant."

muse a is an up-and-coming music producer that has landed their dream job with their favorite music label. muse b is head of the music label and the one who hired muse a. muse a and muse b have been working closely together on a new artist’s album and develop a cute little bond over their love of music. the bond soon morphs into attraction. this is problematic for muse b because muse b has always had a strict policy to never date someone they work with. years ago, muse b was once in a relationship with a coworker and it ended disastrously. muse b starts to distance themselves from muse a in the hopes that their attraction to muse a will fade over time. muse b’s plan doesn’t last long after seeing someone flirting up a storm with muse a at the launch party for their artist’s new album.

Sandro, like Devin, was fulfilling a repetitive request from his own mother. Her constant refrain of telling him that it doesn't matter if he had all the career success in the world if he didn't have someone to share the spoils of his success with was echoing through his head as he approached the restaurant for his blind date. Making partner at his firm hadn't been enough, apparently he needed a wife too before his parents could be really and truly proud. He wasn't sure what exactly was in store after his mother and Devin's set up this promised one-time thing, but he wasn't exactly enthusiastic.
He approached the table he'd been directed to, pasting a small smile on his face as he walked up to her, "Are you Devin?" He asked, hand coming to rest on the back of the empty chair across from her, "I'm Sandro, uh, the blind date." He could practically hear his mother's voice telling him to stand up straight, so he straightened his spine and held out his hand to shake hers, "Nice to meet you."
He didn't have time to overthink his decision to go for a handshake, which could have been perceived as a very non-date gesture. But when in doubt, his business sensibilities won out. Sandro, ever the workaholic, needed a reminder that he wasn't Sandro Cruz, attorney at law, for the next few hours.

Devin sat at the small, candlelit table near the restaurant’s window, her perfectly manicured fingers idly tracing the rim of her wine glass. The hum of soft conversation and clinking silverware filled the air, blending with the faint aroma of fresh basil and roasted garlic that wafted from the open kitchen.
She adjusted the strap of her sleek black dress, shifting in her chair as her eyes flicked to the door for what felt like the hundredth time. It wasn’t nerves—she didn’t get nervous for dates, least of all ones she’d been forced into. It was more the dull frustration simmering beneath her calm exterior.
Her mother’s voice still rang in her ears: “Darling, he’s exactly the kind of man you need—charming, successful, rich, from a good family. Just one dinner, Devin. You can do that much for me, can’t you?”
Devin sighed softly, lifting her glass to take a measured sip of wine. She’d agreed, if only to quiet the endless string of “helpful suggestions” her mother had been pushing for months. One date, and she could get on with her life. At least, that’s what she told herself.
Her gaze shifted back to the menu in front of her, her hazel-green eyes scanning the options she’d already memorized in her effort to look preoccupied. The truth was, her patience was wearing thin, and she wasn’t sure if she’d even recognize this man when—or if—he arrived.
Devin leaned back in her chair, letting out a soft breath as she crossed one leg over the other. Maybe this would be the kind of story she could laugh about later—or maybe, it would be a night she’d prefer to forget. Only time, and whoever walked through that door next, would tell.
