(Her own) tell-tale heart
Nene is a romance author in an unfortunate situation. She... may have published a book about her friends and her falling in love. No one else knows of course, but the shame is eating up at her.
Hananenekou... Save me hananenekou... Hananenekou save me...
Was Kou ever drawn with flowers like the rest of the cast? I canāt remember if he was but idk what flower could be assigned to him either ā¦.
The botanical set of drawings pairs him with clivia, as i pointed out in this post:
But there have been other instances of Kou being drawn with flowers too!
In the pilot, he appears with what I believe to be iris flowers....
... More iris flowers in Chapter 30...
He even sleeps in an iris-patterned futon!
Depending on the color, the flower can mean different things....but generally speaking, it represents hope and good tidings.
Iām going to elaborate on a recent reblog of mine here and say that the āhot takeā that Kou is Neneās best friend instead of Aoi is merely a headcanon, it has no grounding in canon. It holds about as much weight as saying that Teru is Aoiās best friend instead of Akane, or that Hanako is Kouās best friend instead of Yokoo and Satou
Itās perfectly fine to have headcanons, I have a ton of them. But it becomes a reading comprehension issue when fanon begins to distort your interpretation of canon. Nene and Kouās friendship is very beloved in fanon, which leads many fans to overlook any flaws they have in canon (which used to happen with Aoinene a lot). There is also an issue of fans failing to understand that multiple things can be true at once. They recognize that Aoi and Neneās friendship has faults, and so they characterize their entire dynamic as bad rather than looking at the full scope of things and seeing that their friendship has a lot of good factors too. From what Iāve seen, most fandom analysts seem to be capable of seeing all sides of Aoineneās dynamic, but the fans who donāt do a lot of analyzing take those points out of context and end up misinterpreting the manga
Let me point out some canon things about both of these dynamics to better explain my point:
⢠Aoi and Nene have known each other since junior high, Kou and Nene have known each other a couple months at most
⢠Kou and Nene have been through a lot together because theyāre both main characters, and so we see them paired up often. They hang out together after school and team up when a threat appears
⢠Nene and Aoi also hang out after school for gardening club
⢠Many of Neneās character motivations are driven by wanting to protect Aoi. Chasing after her during the Misaki Stairs arc and during the Grim Reaper arc, trying to get her back during the Severance arc, etc. Aoiās motives are also largely driven by her fear of losing Nene
⢠Kouās motives center largely around protecting Nene, but we donāt really see her express that same concern for him. Whereas Aoi and Nene are both somewhat driven by each other, Kouās desire to protect Nene is largely one-sided (keep in mind that for all three of these characters, their main goals are driven by their love interests so the friendship stuff will take somewhat of a backseat)
⢠Nene consistently refers to Aoi as her best friend, but never Kou
⢠Nene overlooks things about both Aoi and Kou. From Neneās pov, Aoi is this perfect popular girl. Also from Neneās pov, Kou is her awkward friend. Neither Aoi nor Kou are given much depth until we see things from their pov rather than Neneās (note- this happens much sooner for Kou since heās our tritagonist)
⢠Nene and Aoi are mentioned to hang out together outside of school. They go to the beach every summer and in the karaoke chapter it was mentioned that theyāve done karaoke together. We donāt really see Kou and Nene hang out on their own much unless theyāre pushed together by the plot, Hanako is almost always with them (aside from the donut chapter where they hanging out together was still done for Hanakoās benefit)
⢠Nene notices things about Aoi that no one else does, like that she doesnāt talk about herself much and that she puts a lot of effort into gardening
⢠Aoi buys snacks to share with Nene at school
So like, if we look at the canon material, it is very obvious that Aoi and Nene are meant to be ābestā friends, whereas Kou and Nene are just good friends. Ofc those labels are a bit silly, I feel kinda dumb having to argue this, but for some reason a lot of fans are very insistent on Kou being Neneās BFF instead of Aoi. I get why fans are more attached to Kou and Neneās dynamic, as I said they get wayyyy more screen time than Nene and Aoi. But itās still weird to me that fans use them to downplay Aoineneās friendship. Both those duos have good and bad sides to their relationships, and it does them both a disservice to portray one as 100% good and the other as 100% bad or less than
And also why are some of yaāll so pressed that Neneās best friend is a woman instead of a man. What do yaāll have against female friendship
āWe need more complex female characters!ā
YOU COULDNT EVEN HANDLE THEM
Chapter eleven of Kamado-San of the kitchen is up.
Get ready to cry!
Akanene is so funny to me because that's Aoi's worst nightmare. Everytime Akane and Nene hold hands Aoi will fall to the ground in tears and pretend (not well, considering the tears and the shaky voice) that she is happy for them.
Save her.
ur cooking with this hold on
I'm not sure this is so much of an AU rather than a limited event that happens sometime outside the main plot (like the ashk chapters) but I think it's worth rating anyways. Here, Hanako is one of six idols in a boy group and Kou is apparently his manager! There's not much information on the AU aside from basic introductions but based on this art of Kou trying to comfort Hanako before a fan-event, it's clear that they're on pretty friendly terms.
I mean just look at them. I know this image is a gag but Kouās radiant optimism paired with Hanakoās underlying nervousness is so fun!! Hanako already likes to hide his personal issues under a front so add the stress of being an idol and you get an anxious mess waiting to explode. Though Hanako tries to keep it under wraps with playful banter and such, Kou is very perceptive and sees right through him. Heāll give him a few odd pep talks and generally hype him up. While Hanako thinks Kouās wording is ratherā¦ominous at times, itās hard to stay down when Kouās genuine hope wears off on him. Now with Kou being Hanakoās manager, heāll obviously be there every step of the way to support and reassure Hanako whenever he needs it which makes for a sweet dynamic.
Generally speaking, Iād like to think their dynamic is friendlier than most work relationships because Kou doesnāt come off as a very uptight professional manager and Hanako knows he can mess with him without many repercussions. Just as much as Kou has to keep Hanako in check, Hanako likes to keep Kou on his toes. And by that I mean Hanako likes to pull pranks on his manager ā¤ļø From hiding in Kouās office to jump scare him to replacing Kouās clipboard papers with pictures of himself, Hanako has a lot of fun with Kou. Obviously Kou isnāt a big fan of the pranks but heās glad Hanakoās comfortable enough to pull them.
Of course, with the whole boss/employee dynamic comes a slew of issues in the context of a romantic relationship. Most companies have a fraternization policy (especially in cases of positions of power) along with idols having a strict no dating policy so whatever becomes of their relationship has to remain a secret. The two of them trying to navigate their feelings under all the media scrutiny and possibilities of getting fired would be absolutely disastrous and I love it.
I know everyone wants his yorishiro to be Kou but listen...Mitsuba's scarf was a gift from Tsukasa and if Tsu is really as innocent as they say, I want these two to become better friends. I want his yorishiro to be the scarf
*EDIT* I want to expand on the symbolism of giving somebody a scarf, not just in books but as a whole; it is far more than just to keep him warm. In Japan, giving someone a scarf symbolizes a deep connection, a bond between two people, and a reminder of a loved one, ESPECIALLY somebody you care deeply for. Not only that, but the scarf is RED. Red is the color of love. Have you ever heard of the "string that binds us together"? Please, for the love of God, let Mitsuba have a yorishiro so he will be stronger and live. See where this is going?
Tsukasa and Mitsuba have been bound quite LITERALLY by "The Red String of Fate"
"Why do you ship Hanakou??? They barely interact"
"Wtf do you ship Hanakou for??? They both got canon love interests already"
"Why do you like Hanakou??? Neither like each other Like That"
I find it a little amusing when people yell at me saying I'm "closed minded" and "wrong" for how I view tbhk as a story and the supernatural cast and agreeing with Teru but genuinely if I'm "closed minded" for agreeing with Teru then what does that make you?.
You sided with the most nieve characters when it comes to the supernatural world without so much as a second thought since the beginning and shun any idea that it could be wrong without ever hearing anyone out?
That sounds just as closed minded as you keep saying I am.
God forbid someone question what they're being told and not blindly believing whatever they're told and look into it themselves and the conclusion is something YOU don't like.
