My personal brand of humor is "horrible, useless advice delivered in an authoritative way" and this is the result of it
if you are neutral in situations of injustice you have chosen the side of the oppressor
This blogger remembers when we didn’t have AO3.
This blogger remembers when we had to put disclaimers at the head of our fics and pray that someone didn’t take it into their heads to sue us for what we created.
This blogger remembers brilliant artists and writers getting decades of work obliterated on LJ because someone who wanted to tell people what they were allowed to create went running to someone who wanted a profit, and told them the artists and writers had been naughty.
This blogger remembers just how hard the creators of AO3 worked to build the thing we all seem to take for granted now.
This blogger watched friends dive into the creation process so heartily and determinedly that they all but disappeared from the writing/gaming/artistic side of their fandom for YEARS while they worked to make the archive happen.
This blogger remembers the sense of giddy wonder that there would possibly be LAWYERS involved, willing to defend our right to create these works, and not leave us hanging at the mercy of corporate legal teams.
This blogger is aware that she reads between twenty to fifty books’ worth of material every year on AO3, and is never REQUIRED to pay a penny for the privilege of getting access.
This blogger is aware that she will not ever see advertisements on AO3, and that her personal data and reading preferences won’t be sold to advertisers in order to raise the money that AO3 needs to pay for the services they provide.
This blogger is aware that AO3 is, and has always been, a labor of love; by fans, for fans, and not for profiting off fans – and this is what makes it unique in the whole of the media universe.
This blogger has NEVER taken AO3 for granted, and has ALWAYS been damned glad to have access to it. Even in years when this blogger didn’t have the means to support it financially.
i love the commenters on the FH webtoon... they feel such deep emotion
To all the EU citizens who see this; Tomorrow is the date of the European elections. Far right populism is on the rise throughout Europe and they are most likely to win seats with a poor voter turn out. The best way to stop them is to go and vote them down, and make sure as many people as possible vote too. In Britain especially, the best way to send a message against brexit is to turn out en mass to vote for either the SNP in Scotland or the Lib Dems in rUK. These are the main parties opposing brexit so a vote for them sends a message
[[This is Isaiah Hine’s high school presentation on white fragility. You’re not going to get a simpler explanation, in my opinion, so if you’re white you should really read this. Below are Isaiah’s notes on each slide.]]

What is White Fragility?
Robin DiAngelo is a professor at Westfield State University and author of What Does it Mean to Be White? Developing White Racial Literacy.
I’m sure you’ve all seen these ‘defensive moves’ in action before. “I didn’t mean anything by it” “I wasn’t trying to be offensive” “I have a black friend” “Not all white people”
People are often more worried about being called a racist than actually doing something racist. In America white people often don’t even have to consider race. They often think of themselves as “raceless” white is conditioned to be the norm and everyone else is considered “raced” or “colored”. White fragility allows white people to govern when and how race is discussed. White people expect to be educated on racism, and in a nice way.

Why Is It A Bad Thing?
White people never learn as a result and are allowed to continue saying and doing racist things. White people prefer to hear these things from other white people but because other white people don’t know enough about racism, they cycle continues. When people of color do things like the BLACKLIVESMATTER movement, many white peoples responses were “all lives matter” this is white fragility. Proclaiming that black lives matter does not inherently mean that other lives don’t. This statement is made because society continually shows us that black lives don’t matter in america and these are the lives that need the affirming. We already know that white lives matter, it doesn’t need to be stated. White people are very used to being the center of things and when they aren’t it makes them uncomfortable.

Why Does This Happen?
Most people don’t fully grasp the idea of systemic racism and that we live in a racist society that perpetuates racist ideas. We are socialized into white supremacy.
absolutely love watching what having children does to the people I know. one friend in particular didn’t change at all, because he always had strong dad vibes, so the baby just completed the picture. and then you contrast it with the people who changed wildly, like my brother, who has been more patient and gentle with his baby than I’ve genuinely ever seen him be in my life. I’m 26. in my 26 years I have never seen this man so tender and every time I’m just ?????????? this is the person who used to suplex me on the trampoline?
in any case I love how Arthur goes from the utter menace the Normans made him - even if the Hundred Years’ War and War of the Roses left him a little less menacing than he was before - to, you know, a dad. a very doting dad at that. like just imagine being Erin and Morgan watching this usually mean, vicious fucker turn into someone so gentle. a man so concerned with his reputation and meticulous about how he carries himself and and what emotions he does/doesn’t show and he’s just like… shamelessly singing silly rhymes or cooing at his baby in public. baby Alfred could throw an apocalyptic fit and Arthur would just find it cute (in a pitiful way). it’s like this man has never felt annoyed in his life. the literal pirate, the scourge of the Atlantic, at one time one of the best and most brutal knights in Europe, an unrepentant and ruthless conqueror, keeps kissing his baby’s forehead and very solemnly asking if he knows how loved he is. the baby that no one really expected to exist in the first place and that Arthur gave zero indication of planning to have, but here he is and good god Arthur loves him more than he’s ever loved anything or anyone. it’s bizarre and no one understands what the hell is happening.
Because y’all started reblogging my old fic idea post, I had to drag up a fic I never posted, read it, and then fall in love with the idea all over again. Without further ado, here’s the summary and first chapter I wrote like way back when:
Summary:
Tim has been Robin for about a year and a half now, and trust him, he’s seen some pretty wacked up stuff, but never this. There’s a man in a leather jacket and a red helmet that’s been following him around, almost acting as a kind of violent and disgruntled guardian angel. He’ll save Tim from a bullet, or maybe help end his fight sooner, and disappear before anyone is the wiser. But the thing that worries him the most is not that he has a stalker or that the leather jacket get-up is seriously screaming issues.
It’s the fact that this guy reminds him so much of Robin II.
But that can’t be right because Jason Todd is dead. Right?
OR
Jason comes back from the dead, and he’s still angry at Bruce and Dick and the world, but God knows he can’t be angry at a kid who gets thrown into the thick of it because of some stupid adult’s problems. He’s been that kid for most of his life, and afterlife. But goddamnit, the last ounce of goodness he has left in him is screaming at him to GET THE KID OUT OF THERE BEFORE HE ENDS UP LIKE YOU. So now Jason’s grand come-back plan has just been revised.
Step 1: Get revenge on Bruce Step 2: Kill the Joker Step 3?: SAVE THE KID
Keep reading
best friends forever
