the crank party //

thomas has experienced many dangerous situations throughout his life with newt and all of his friends. the crank party reminds me of thomas’ life. i feel as if thomas’ wish was newt. newt was his hope. he created a plan to be sent into the maze to save him.

as thomas walks through the party, his hallucinations show the dangerous situations he experienced. he felt so scared and worried as he tried to find his friends. thomas walks through the party (his life) as images familiar to him reoccur.

he hasn’t fallen yet until he finds newt infected by the flare. thomas held onto hope to find newt, his love, as he went through so much but fell when he discovered newt as a crank. his whole world shattered into pieces as he screamed through unbearable pain.

thomas couldn’t handle the thought of losing newt. before thomas woke up, he remembers looking for teresa to tell her how he felt about the maze. he already told the right arm every coordinate to every wckd compound, trial, and lab. thomas wanted to save newt.

when he woke up from the memory, he goes to stand next to newt. he missed newt so much, he missed his home. thomas’ fear and heartbreak is newt succumbing to the flare; losing his only wish with all the love he’d ever known, taken from him. thomas loves newt so much and thinking about how much he cares about him makes me so emotional :’)

the lyrics “the water filled my lungs, i screamed so loud but no one heard a thing” reminds me how thomas felt when his hallucinations at the crank party created a vision of newt infected by the flare...... i’m Hurt.

I just watched the entire Maze Runner trilogy and I think it is one of the most egregious cases of “should have been a gay romantic tragedy” that I’ve ever seen fhdjksks

Like obviously lots of movies are guilty of this, but what gets me is they didn’t even try to make Thomas and Teresa a convincing pairing. All they did was put her there and say “here she’s the love interest because we said so.” Not even an iota of effort was put in to show us why they were supposedly in love. Newt played the role of a typical love interest in every other aspect. I have never seen a movie fail so hard at a no homo in my LIFE.

And then they have the audacity to end the movie with Thomas reading what is basically a love letter from Newt. But they threw in a “mate” at the end to the indicate that it’s not gay and they were just buds. Unbelievable.

yeah the tmr movie has no romance in it, but have you seen the way thomas turned to look after newt like 10 times after he first met him? like could you be any more obvious

everyone is gay on tmr, it was literally impossible that one person was straight, they are the post-apocalyptic gays

i rewatched the maze runner the other day and i made a connection i hadn’t before. so a common motif in that movie is people suddenly remembering thomas. each time this happens it’s bad; ben attacks him and says that everything is his fault, teresa remembers him and immediately everything changes, and alby attacks and remembers him after the changing. newt is aware of all of this and probably noticed how it ate away at thomas’ psyche to be remembered in all of these negative ways. he helps calm that nerve with his speech in the maze runner but it also leads to the importance of the line “and i remember you” from his letter. newt makes it a point to tell thomas that he remembers him, not the person from before the maze but the person he is now, who is good, and strong, and impulsive and brave and a leader. newt is so happy to have memories of thomas that he would get the flare all over again just to have known him. the fact that newt makes it a point to tell thomas this knowing how people hated remembering him in the glade is so so important to me. thank you for your time

The Scorch Trials would have been 10x better if it were Thomas and Newt in the party scene instead of Thomas and Brenda. Sue me.
