How to Pick a Date for Your Spells

The first advice of absolute importance is to avoid starting anything during the Moon’s Void of Course. Things like interviews, important business meetings, initiating projects, and especially Spells likely won’t turn out well or will remain unfinished.

When planning a date for your Spell, it’s important to take into consideration the following things:

Moon Phase

Moon Sign

Day of the Week

Retrograde Planets

Make sure the above bullets points align with the goals of your Spell.  We have a Moon Phase Planner for 2020 that has all the above information to help pick a date for your Spells!

For example, if we wanted to do a spell for Material Wealth: 

December 24, 2020 is an excellent day because:

the Moon is Waxing and is close to a Full Moon

the Moon is in Taurus, the sign of luxury and material possessions

it’s a Thursday which is ruled by Jupiter - the planet of wealth and expansion

Venus is NOT Retrograde

Now keep in mind that these are guidelines for timing your spells with the best natural energy available. You can do a money spell any time you like (avoid the Void of Course Moon) but it may not have as much supportive energy compared to the above example. This is because of the reasons given in the example. Taurus, the ruler of wealth, is a much better sign for getting money compared to Cancer for example.

The following information will help guide you in planning a date for your Spells.

Moon in the Signs

Aries: —————

-Aries deals with energy, independence, competition, taking risks, the Self, and leadership.

-Do Spells that help with healing the physical body, advancing by overcoming competition, increasing vitality, first impressions, and with how you view yourself.

-Aries is a quick starter sign so it is a good to start things where much energy is needed; however it is also an impulsive sign so be sure to follow through with anything initiated during this time.

Taurus: —————

-Taurus deals with sensuality, material wealth, self-worth, and permanence. 

-Do Spells for money, wealth, acquiring material things, improving your self-worth or self-esteem, and sensual love. 

-Taurus is a steadfast and sometimes stubborn sign so it is good for initiating anything that you want to last.

Gemini: —————

-Gemini deals with communication (all forms), details, correspondence, short distance travel, people close to you such as siblings relatives and neighbors.

-Do Spells for helping communication go smoothly in case of a difficult conversation, improved relations with those close to you, help in all forms of writing activities such as emails, letters, calls, or professional writing.

- Gemini is a communicative sign so it is a good sign to support any form of communication.

Cancer: ————— -Cancer deals with the family, home, nurturing, personal roots, emotional foundations, land, and property.

-Do Spells to help with improving family life, finding a good home to buy, cleansing/banishing/protecting the home, real estate transactions, and healing from childhood trauma.

Moon Phases

Full Moon - the highest point in the moon’s cycle where its energies are at its peak. This is an excellent time for divination.

Note: when a Full Moon occurs twice in a month (October 31 2020) it is considered a Blue Moon. This is similar to a Full Moon but has more power

Waning Moon - the moon here is decreasing to a New Moon so its energies are that of degeneration. Use this time for banishing, cleansing, destruction or bringing anything to an end such as a relationship or bad habits.

New Moon - on the waning side of the New Moon, it has an ending type of energy as the moon is “disappearing”. On the waxing side it has the energy of potential, ready for new beginnings.

Waxing Moon - a time of growth as the light of the moon increases to its peak at the Full Moon. Use this time to do Spells for building something up in your life such as health, new friendships.

Note: it is better to do the Spell closer to the Full/New Moon depending on the goal. Unless you want to do the Spells for multiple days, such as cleansing/banishing, you can start right after the Full Moon and end on the New Moon. This supports the goal of removing bad energy.

Days of the Week

Monday: —————

Monday is the day of the Moon. The moon carries feminine psychic energy and is a great day to start developing psychic abilities, perform divination, cleanse the home, or banishing rituals.

Tuesday: ————— Tuesday is the day of Mars. Mars carries the masculine warrior energy and is a great day for doing Spells where much energy is needed. It is also a good day for black magick where the result is quick and active. Think of the moment when two swords clash.

Wednesday: ————— Wednesday is the day of Mercury. Mercury rules all forms of communication, documents, short-distance travel, and health. This is a great day for doing Spells related to health, improving communication ability, difficult conversations, and safe travels.

Thursday ————— Thursday is the day of Jupiter. Jupiter is the greater benefic and rules luck, opportunities, expansion, higher education, philosophy, foreign places, religion, and the law. Use this day for Spells that deal with expansion and opportunities, safe long-distance travels, and educational study.

Friday ————— Friday is the day of Venus. Venus rules love, beauty, cosmetics, money, luxury, jewelry, and material possessions. Use this day for Spells to bring you money, acquire material possessions, and for successful cosmetic procedures.

Saturday ————— Saturday is the day of Saturn. Saturn authority, structure, work ethic, endurance, delays, restrictions, boundaries, limitations, and decay. This is a great day for black magick that acts slowly or for binding or restricting another. Also great for Spells requiring discipline such as breaking habits.

Sunday ————— Sunday is the day of the Sun. The Sun rules vitality, charisma, money, fame creativity, leadership, the identity, and the Self. This is a great day for doing Spells that deal with us personally, such as our character or personality for example.

MONICA'S MOIST MAKER SANDWICH

YIELDS: 3

PREP TIME: 0 HOURS 20 MINS

TOTAL TIME: 0 HOURS 50 MINS

INGREDIENTS

FOR GRAVY

3 tbsp. 

butter

3 tbsp. 

all-purpose flour 

1/2 c. 

turkey pan drippings 

1 tsp. 

freshly chopped thyme 

1 tsp. 

freshly chopped rosemary 

2 c. 

low-sodium chicken or turkey broth 

Kosher salt 

Freshly ground black pepper 

FOR HERB MAYO

1/2 c. 

mayonnaise 

2 tbsp. 

dijon mustard 

2 tsp. 

freshly chopped parsley 

1 tsp. 

freshly chopped thyme 

1 tsp. 

freshly chopped chives 

FOR THE SANDWICH

slices white bread, toasted 

1 lb. 

 leftover turkey, sliced 

1 c. 

leftover mashed potatoes 

1 c. 

cranberry sauce

leftover stuffing

DIRECTIONS

FOR GRAVY

Make gravy: In a small saucepan over medium heat, melt butter. Whisk in flour and cook until golden, 1 minute, then whisk in pan drippings. (If you have more than a 1/2 cup of drippings, use it and reduce the amount of broth!)

Bring mixture to a boil, then reduce heat and simmer gently until slightly thickened. Stir in fresh herbs, then whisk in broth and return mixture to a simmer. Season with salt and pepper. 

Simmer 10 minutes, gradually adding more broth if gravy is too thick. Season with salt and pepper. Let cool slightly. 

Make herb mayo: In a medium bowl, combine mayonnaise, mustard, and fresh herbs. 

Spread herb mayo on one side of 6 pieces of bread. Dip remaining 3 pieces of bread into gravy, making sure plenty soaks in.

Build sandwich by placing turkey on a mayonnaise spread piece of bread, then top with turkey,  mashed potatoes, cranberry sauce, a gravy soaked piece of bread, stuffing, arugula, and another mayonnaise spread piece of bread. Repeat with remaining ingredients to make 2 more sandwiches

Standing in front of the mirror of his bathroom as he stared into the eyes of a man whom at one time he didn't recognize. Axel had his own demons, ones that he didn't share with anyone. He didn't let anyone close to him know about the demons that had plagued him. He had fallen into them after his divorce to his Gia, they were an escape, he needed to feel good. It started with just a bump here and there, until he was snorting a line every night or more.  He hated how empty her leaving had made him feel, how low he had sunk. It hadn't even been that long ago that he fought those demons. 

"'Cause my monsters are real, and they're trained how to kill

And there's no comin' back and they just laugh at how I feel

And these monsters can fly, and they'll never say die

And there's no goin' back, if I get trapped I'll never heal

He splashed water on his face, some days were harder than others. He knew as well as anyone that he hadn't stopped at the coke. It wasn't long before he was chasing the dragon. That's when he really started to lose control of everything, but then at that point what did he have to live for. His medical career? That was a joke, he couldn't get into a residency program now that he had been arrested for murder. It didn't matter that he was innocent, no one in the city wanted to touch him, he was tainted. What did he have to live for? Would anyone even miss him if he just gave up?

What had changed? What made him seek help? That one shot of Narco. That's what did it for him, he how long had been gone? He even didn't know who had found him. He just knew he woke up in the hospital. No one was there, his mother wasn't there, the girl he had been seeing. No one. He was alone. When the doctors came in and told him he was lucky to be there. Lucky to still be alive. He knew it was time to get his sh*t together.

He told his mother that he was taking a vacation, he needed some time away from the city. Otherwise, he'd never heal from Gia. He didn't want her to worry. She had her hands full with the shelter, she didn't need to worry about her drug-addicted son. He left that next morning, he sold the house he was living in while he was gone. Told the realtor to have everything inside sold, what he couldn't sell give it away. He didn't want to return to the same house.

He brought his thoughts back to his own reflection in the mirror, he sometimes still didn't recognize himself. Was he even the same person? He wondered that every day. The one thing he did know that Nik made him a better man. She made him want to be a better man. He knew that at some point he had to tell her about this part of himself. He just hoped that she still loved him when she knew everything about him. His past and his present, hopefully, she would still want a future with him.

Winter Solstice Cookies

Ingredients

2 1/2 cups all-purpose flour

1/2 tsp kosher salt

1 cup unsalted butter, room temperature

3/4 cup sugar

2 tablespoons finely grated lemon zest

1 tsp clear vanilla extract

4 large egg yolks

Icing Ingredients

1 1/4 cups powdered sugar

2 tablespoons (or more) fresh lemon juice

Sanding sugar (optional)

Star or snow sprinkles (optional)

Instructions

Whisk together flour and salt in a medium-sized bowl.

Whip butter in an electric mixer on medium speed, gradually add in sugar and beat until light and fluffy, about 3-4 minutes.

Beat in lemon zest and vanilla. Add egg yolks and just mix until blended.

Turn mixer to low and gradually blend in flour mixture.

Divide dough in two halves, roll each into a 10” long log about 1 3/4? in diameter.

Wrap securely with plastic wrap. Logs can be shaped again once wrapped and starting to chill to ensure they keep their round log shape. Chill until firm, about 1 hour but this can be done up to 2 days in advance, but keep chilled.

Preheat oven to 350°F.

Line baking sheets with parchment paper or silpat liners. Remove the plastic wrap and, using a sharp knife, slice each log into 1/4” thick rounds. Place on cookie sheets about 1” apart.

Bake until cookies are firm but only slightly browned on the edges, about 14-16 minutes. Transfer to wire racks after cooling for 1 minute or so. Allow to cool completely. Repeat with remaining dough log, using cooled sheets and fresh parchment paper each time.

Icing Directions

Whisk together icing sugar and fresh lemon juice until smooth, adding more lemon juice if too thick to drizzle. Drizzle over cookies as desired. Immediately sprinkle decorative sprinkles if using. Allow icing to set for about 10 minutes before storing in airtight container.
