I really want a fic of Gil following DuPree around trying to figure out what the big stuff is. Scientifically. Possibly with a clip board. That Dupree, naturally, sets on fire.

Also my original response when reading this was to think ‘well Gil! She hasn’t set you on fire. That’s nice. Maybe you’re Big Stuff’.

Minion Soulbonds

Everyone destined to fall in loyalty with a Spark is born with that Spark’s sigil on their skin.

The scattering of trilobites among children born after the Heterodyne Boys vanish is taken throughout Europa as evidence that they’ll come back.

In Mechanicsburg all the children are still born with trilobites and that’s taken as hope of a different kind.

The scattering of winged castles throughout Europa is considered with puzzlement during the days when Wulfenbach is a small barony (which doesn’t even have an airforce!) and Klaus is mostly known as the Heterodyne Boys’ sidekick. Maybe it’s going to be someone else’s sigil?

Bang hides hers. She’s a pirate queen, the last thing she needs is to follow a Spark around. When she finds herself doing just that she hides the tattoo anyway. Gil would be smug and Klaus would be unsurprised.

Boris regards his with annoyance, he doesn’t want to belong to any Spark, and then with hope, it’s not the sigil of the Spark that experimented on him, he won’t belong to them forever, and finally with acceptance.

Moloch’s trilobite baffles him when he’s younger. If the Heterodyne Boys return it certainly won’t involve him. When he’s sent to Castle Heterodyne and sees the same mark on the other prisoners he thinks that’s it, the Castle owns them now and was obviously destined to. The truth, when he’s faced with it, scares him even worse.

Violetta’s trilobite nearly gets her killed. A sign of disloyalty in the making, written on her skin. Tarvek pulls strings to keep her alive and hopes it means a real Heterodyne (because the alternative is Lucrezia inhabiting the body of one and he will not see his stubborn, loving cousin in loyalty with her.)

Summary: After the Baron’s stasis bomb seals Agatha in Mechanicsburg, KB is forced to escape from the Empire and take control of what little of the Heterodyne’s resources he has under his command. He’s not very excited about that.

When Uncle Barry reappears after eleven years, he’s not very excited about that either.  

AN: Very largely inspired by Mixed Feelings and a conversation with @destiny919. Originally I had this written for the twins au (which is still going to be a thing! Enjoy the previews of that) but decided I didn’t like the direction it was going, so I had to scrap it. Still, I enjoyed writing it too much to actually throw it out, so have this fic of Barry being yelled at by his very (and justifiably) angry nephew.

The first week spent in the caverns outside of Mechanicsburg was confusing at best and a disaster at worst. As they struggled to determine exactly who had been inside the city when it was cut off, it became increasingly clear just how much they’d lost: the jaeger generals, the minions, the administrators, even the Lady Heterodyne. Things were looking grim. But even though the Heterodyne was trapped in Mechanicsburg, there was still another one outside the walls.

KB threw himself into organizing their forces with the fervor of a spark and the precision of an ex-Secretary. He set up in the infirmary and took reports while he treated the wounded. Most of his papers ended up covered in blood and bile, but by the end of the first two days they had a comprehensive list of their manpower, supplies, and rations. That was around the time the refugees started arriving.

Magical Girl AU

Agatha

Powers: Jäger cards. Her ancestors only bound willing spirits to cards, but every single one of them found a few new willing spirits, so now there’s a thousand or so cards hanging around. Agatha usually takes a selection and leaves the rest in an iron bound chest. This is nicer than it sounds – when the Jägers are together they can move between cards and she often comes back to find them all wearing different hats.

She lends them out sometimes, too, but only to people she really trusts.

Mascots: Castle and Beast, in their dingbot forms. When they power up they take on something close to their train and castle forms.

The first time Castle powered up there was a lot of “wait… really a castle? as in a building? did you just bend reality to move all those streets over and place yourself in the middle of this city?”

Violetta

Powers: Her powers are clothing based with her mascots providing different outfits with different powers as needed. The most commonly worn is the purple invisibility dress.

Mascots: Tarvek and Anevka. Anevka is a porcelain doll and Tarvek is a teddy bear, but the really high end and fashionably dressed kind. He has a button in his ear with Violetta’s symbol on it.

When they power up enough they can appear mostly human – but their eyes stay glass.

Zeetha

Powers: Magic swords.

Mascot: Her powers come direct from a goddess so she doesn’t have one.

Bang: She’s not… really a magical girl. But she has the willingness to stab, even if it’s with ordinary knives, a stolen Jäger card (Vole), and a really strong aesthetic.

or you live long enough to see yourself become Nathalie.
