“They’ll remember me for Centuries ~”
Don't you think the janaya relationship just like "happened"? I wish they had developed it more, they way they did it seems to me like they didn't care much about it
No?? Janai and Amaya were one another’s plotline for the season. We saw the slowbuild of mutual respect stemming from their place as matched adversaries on the battlefield move to actual trust. Their mistrust, meanwhile, of each other fade away in the state of extreme circumstances. Janai trusted Amaya’s panic to completely uncuff her and get her armour back on, in addition to Amaya realizing that everyone, including the other Sunfire elves, would be in grave danger if Viren was there, and that him being there could only mean trouble.
They admire one another’s prowess and have been through similar losses (a sister) that Janai also experienced by Amaya’s side, and then Janai agreed to help Amaya’s family and friends defend the Dragon Queen with what was left of her forces. They saved each other’s lives (Amaya helping Janai up and Janai supporting Amaya through the Light ceremony) too.
By the end of the season, it’s clear they find one another attractive and are just beginning a stronger friendship / a romantic relationship. S3 also takes place over longer than the previous two seasons judging by the shape of the moon, so it was 2+ weeks instead of just one.
I also think the idea of “they didn’t care about it” is also a contradictory one, because if they didn’t care it wouldn’t be there. Amaya and Janai are a healthy, engaging romantic relationship between two queer women of colour, one of whom is also disabled and a loving aunt to two of our main protagonists. That in and of itself is revolutionary. It’s also less than halfway through the series, rather than in the last season or even last episode, so we’ll get to see them be a couple in the future, too.
They’re fun with a good emotional centre and I felt like they were developed enough. That’s always just my subjective opinion (although I would like to write meta about their development someday) but you’ll hear no complaints from me :)

Short comic, while I work on something bigger on the side. It is nevertheless a very important topic. A lot of seabirds die because they eat plastic. They feed their chicks with the waste. It’s really tragic.
