But this situation of linear movement is rapidly changing in every respect. And the greatest change is one that our Rip Van Winkle economist, looking only at the figures, wouldn’t even notice: In the past 20 years we have created a brand-new form of capital, a brand-new resource, namely knowledge.
Up until 1900, any society in the world would have done just as well as it did without men of knowledge. We may have needed lawyers to defend criminals and doctors to write death certificates, but the criminals would have done almost as well without the lawyers, and the patients without the doctors. We needed teachers to teach other ornaments of society, but this too was largely decoration. The world prided itself on men of knowledge, but it didn’t need them to keep the society running.
I had a great chat with a colleague of mine who works for Gabelli IT this afternoon about creating a collaborative group made up of representatives of all of the different groups helping faculty. Our focus would be to 1. share resources 2. create a unified message 3. support each other.
This project would have a website that can provide a framework for developing our PLNs at Fordham, helping to break down the silos among us.
Seize the day
One of my favorite sci fi books of all time is Dune by Frank Herbert. So many great quotes, like this one: “Without change something sleeps inside us, and seldom awakens. The sleeper must awaken”

As I said in my last post, this is a time of crisis and opportunity. What’s one thing that has changed for the better in your life in these times? It’s so easy to focus on problems, sometimes it helps to think on the positive side.
Here’s some Productivity, Positivity, and Creativity for your day.

“Negropodamus” disses Internet of Things, predicts knowledge pills,
just to give you a little background... this guy... founded the MIT MediaLab... he also gave a talk at the very first TED conference with 5 predictions.... after you read the article, watch the video and be prepared to have your mind blown (keep in mind, he made these predictions in 1984!!!).... Nigroponte is one of those tech visionaries.. like Kurzweil.... ('the singularity guy'... actually, there's a lot more to the singularity than good old Ray)

Just heard about the first batch of casting for the Wheel of Time adaption. Very exciting news. The Wheel of Time by Robert Jordan is one of my favorite series and one of the reasons why I don’t like to start new series until they are completely done!
I read the first four books in the early 90′s when I was in high school and was hooked. I had to wait almost 20 years for the series to be completed. Agony!
The 14 books are massive volumes and total just about 12,000 pages. If you listen to the audio version it will take you 19 days and 5 1/2 hours.
I’m hopeful it will turn out much better than that uber weird 30 minute pilot that aired in the middle of the night!
Another reason why I like to know an entire series is done before I start? Well, in addition to having to wait 20 years to finish the series, the author passed away before he finished the last book. Needless to say, I have not read the GOT series or watched the show and will definitely be waiting until the books are finished!

Advice on deciding which bundle or subscription to choose I would also suggest keeping a list of all of the shows, movies, and channels you like to watch... that will help you narrow in on which bundle or subscription makes the best sense for you
Select a streaming device I think the best bet for most people is the Alexa Fire Remote with Voice (currently $25 for Amazon Prime Members) but you should choose the best streaming device for your needs... this section will give you the pros and cons of all of the major options
Still want local channels? Even if you opt out of cable, it’s easy and inexpensive to get local channels via a HD TV Antenna
Once you've Cut the Cord, here are some additional items for you to check out on that page: Additional Resources and Bonus Content
There are some really great benefits to Amazon Prime membership beyond free, fast shipping. Check out some of the great features you can take advantage of with your Amazon Prime membership.
Also on this page, I have tips and tricks for using Alexa.
