everyone fucking hates capitalism, and it pisses them off, but they dont know they hate capitalism, so they just complain about every issue individually as if its some series of unconnected phenomena with no root cause
i dont know who needs to hear this but you dont constantly need to be buying clothes.
fast fashion is problematic because its unsustainable, not tailored to all body types, and fails to pay workers (mostly women of color)
thrifting too much is problematic because it deprives the lower class of “trendier” items. this happens because girls who can afford more expensive clothes are buying them, making minor adjustments, and marking the price way up on depop. its gentrifying thrifting and making it hard for the lower class to find clothes. yes thrifting overall is a nice alternative to fast fashion but it can be overdone.
the better option is to keep clothing for as long as possible and repair it when its damaged. accept hand me down clothes. if a piece is needed for an occasion try to borrow it from someone. swap clothing to prevent being tired of it. also i acknowledge my privilege that i can afford to make my own clothes, so i will. i will learn to repair and make clothing out of sustainable fabrics.
sustainability isnt a one size fits all. acknowledge your situation and figure out what works best for you. oh and stop selling items you thrifted and added glitter to for way more than theyre worth on depop.

imagine spending a morning writing letters at the kitchen table while your wife cooks breakfast. on cream-colored stationary from the papermaker's store in your little village, you detail the local goings-on and the weather patterns and the state of your vegetable garden. you tell your faraway friends and family that you miss them but that you have found true happiness here. in the margins, you sketch birds and leaves and the animal prints you saw in the mud by the creek when you went to gather wild mushrooms. you slip a pressed flower in each envelope alongside the folded letter before sealing. as you finish addressing the last one, your wife places a plate of cinnamon buns and blackberries in front of you. she kisses the top of your head and says, "a bicycle ride through the country today?" already knowing that you will say yes.
