A loud clap of thunder shattered through the air, the noise startling Shouto from his dreamless sleep. The shock to his system forced his heart to a rapid pace, matching the beat of the rain pounding down his window frame. He turned on his right side to watch the lightning strike the sky, illuminating the world in its energetic dance.
Shouto never liked storms all that much, but he couldn’t deny the beauty of the atmosphere as the rain and thunder played its chaotic symphony, the beautiful bolts of lightning stringing a spiderweb of light and shadow. The night tried to suffocate the stubborn light, but it always came back again to fight another battle in their unending war. Shouto looked to his nightstand, the red glow of his alarm clock glaring back at him. 3am. He sighed. Only 2 more hours until he’d have to get up for the morning shift at work.
He laid back down and stared at the ceiling, willing sleep to come. If he just kept thinking calm thoughts, eventually he’d fall asleep. He hoped. Of course, this method had never worked in the past, but that didn’t stop him from trying. Cold air filtered through the vent, causing Shouto to shiver. He really should get the heating fixed, especially since winter was closing in. Even though he could control his body heat, he preferred sleeping at a comfortable temperature. Plus..... Well, his boyfriend needed to be warm, too. Shouto shifted to his left side, watching his lover’s deep, even breaths. By the light of the lightning bolts, Shouto examined Izuku’s wild green curls splayed across his pillow, his soft features relaxed while he drifted through his dreams. Shouto tucked a few stray strands behind Izuku’s ear and caressed his cheek with his thumb. Watching this peaceful scene, an outsider would not guess the constant strain of Izuku’s strenuous workload. Right now, though, he slept through the raging storm outside, blissfully unaware of the chaos. Good, Shouto thought. Izuku deserved to rest. Carefully, Shouto moved closer to Izuku, wrapping his arm around his body. He curled around Izuku, sliding into the natural spaces made by his limbs. Shouto nestled his head into the soft nest of Izuku’s curls, a small smile pulling at his lips. They fit together so well it was hard to tell where one man began and the other ended. Shouto breathed in deeply, memorizing the coconut scent of Izuku’s hair. Though Shouto had tried to move slowly, his movements roused Izuku into semi-awareness. “Shou’?” Izuku murmured, turning his head slightly. “Shh,” Shouto said. He kissed Izuku’s hair. “Go back to sleep.” Izuku nodded his head and shifted closer to Shouto, pressing his back to Shouto’s chest. In their silence, the storm outside continued to pour down their windows.
“Rain’s loud,” Izuku mumbled. He sighed. “But you’re warm.” Shouto huffed a small laugh. Shaking his head, he kissed Izuku’s head again. Then, he whispered, “I love you, ‘Zuku.” Izuku hummed with content. “I love you, Shou’.” With the warmth of one another to ward off the war outside, they fell asleep, tangled together in a mess of limbs. And, love.
This work was an experimental, poetic piece. It’s all about beauty, both in the world and in our loved ones.
I love kagehina, tbh. I’m so sofffff for them.

Realizing he’s in love with Miles Edgeworth, Phoenix Wright decides to do what he does best: bluff his way through it.
It’s okay to be in love with your childhood best friend-turned-enemy-turned-rival-turned-best-friend, Phoenix thinks. As long as he never knows.
But there’s not much for Phoenix to do. If he changes his behaviors too much, Miles will know and the whole purpose of keeping his feelings a secret will prove moot.
So Phoenix still touches Miles casually, eats dinners with him, solves cases with him.
The only difference is that he shoves this temporary box of “knowledge and realizations” to the side, unlike in court, where he’d blurt them out as soon as he discovered them.
It would have gone fine. Really, it would. If Phoenix didn’t have a giant mouth that sucked at shutting up.
He’s sitting on the agency’s rundown couch with Miles, parsing through case files while they sip his expensive tea in Phoenix’s paper cups. It’s a quiet moment, silent except for the turning of pages and sipping of tea—its comfort tricks him into speaking the thought that pops into his mind:
“Are we in love?”
If Miles were the type to be surprised, he may have spilt his drink. As it were, as Phoenix’s eyes grow wide in horror, Miles coughs and places his cup down, the only sign he is ruffled the slight shake of the liquid.
“Does that question warrant an answer, Wright?”
Phoenix responds: “I don’t know.”
Miles takes a different approach. “Are you in love with me?”
“Uhhhh.” Phoenix knows he sounds dumb, but like always, he is powerless to stop it. “I mean, yeah?”
“Oh.” Miles coughs again. “How long?”
With the truth released and no rescinding of their friendship, Phoenix relaxes, if only slightly. “I don’t know.” His eyebrows scrunch. “I must have been at least a little obsessed to chase you this far.”
“And then?”
Phoenix wonders if he’s imagining the hope in his voice.
“And then…I guess I was in a position to keep falling.”
Miles’ voice is small as he says: “even knowing what I’ve done?”
Phoenix’s lips upturn at the edges. “Even knowing that.” He lets his gaze sharpen. “It would have been harder to stop than to keep going with it.”
Miles exhales. He picks up his tea. Takes a sip.
“I see.”
Phoenix waits. And waits. And waits. And then he pushes.
“And you?”
Miles chuckles and Phoenix’s heart thumps. “I don’t let anyone else drink this tea.”
“Really?”
“It’s my favorite,” Miles says.
And with that, Phoenix doesn’t need another answer.
He picks up his case files. “If we finish this case, can I take you out on a date?”
Miles laughs, this one full and bright, a sound meant to be heard. “If we have time.”
They don’t. But in the following days, they spend enough time together that it doesn’t matter.

For someone who once claimed to be indifferent towards their career, Todoroki Shouto looks very content in front of the camera. His sharp jaw and high cheekbones have shifted over time, cold, stoic marble now yielding to the river flowing around him. A small smile blooms on his face, fitting seamlessly into the peaceful aura of the room, the soft lighting glancing off his delicate features.
Of course, this relaxed behavior on set may be due to who is behind the camera, his recently revealed long-time boyfriend, photographer Midoriya Izuku. Midoriya calls out directions in between bubbles of laughter, the bright tone drawing out small smiles from his boyfriend.
Todoroki Shouto reflects on how his relationship with photographer Midoriya Izuku has helped shape his modeling career. *** Here’s my piece for the TDDK Style Zine! It was a really fun project, and it turned out great! If you’d like to see the free, downloadable PDF, check out @tddkmodelzine!

Light and shadow danced across Shouto’s face, a small smile reflecting the warmth of the candlelit flames. He looked toward his friends, who were arranged in a circle around him. They mirrored his expression of inner happiness, their grins shining in the low light.
He could not believe his luck. After many long, lonely years, he had finally found friends who loved and supported him. No longer did he need to face his demons alone. Now, he could reach out a hand, and find a warm one encircling his own, to face the darkness together.
Shouto did this now, wrapping his fingers around the hand next to him, smiling softly at the boy.
“You did this? For me?” Shouto asked him.
He received a smile in return. The boy, Izuku, leaned close to his ear. “Of course. I wouldn’t miss out on your birthday. I care about you.” He motioned to the circle of friends. “We all care about you.”
His friends voiced their agreement, saying “we love you, Todoroki-kun!” and “you’re amazing, man.” No one stayed silent, and even the brittle blonde gave a “I guess you’re alright” after a little prompting.
Shouto looked down at his hands, the one intertwined with Izuku’s and the one left on his own. The warmth of a loved one, he decided, was much better than facing the world alone.
He looked up, at his friends all around him. His lips twitched upwards, forming a smile, something he seemed to be doing a lot of these days.
“Well, can we sing you happy birthday, now?” Izuku smirked, nudging him in the side.
Shouto laughed, a quiet and short one, as if his body did not know how to react to this odd action. “Go right ahead.”
His friends sang jovially, and though most were off-key, Shouto appreciated their expressive enthusiasm. Some swayed with the beat, others laughed while they sang, and some just nodded their heads, enjoying the moment for what it was: a simple second of pure, honest friendship.
As they concluded their tune, Izuku leaned forward and whispered in Shouto’s ear. “Make a wish!”
Shouto thought for a minute, placing a finger to his lips. Then, with all the strength in his lungs, he blew out the candles. His friends, his classmates, cheered, wishing him a year full of love and happiness.
When they cut the cake and passed out plates, Izuku leaned into him again, resting his head on Shouto’s shoulder.
“What did you wish for?” He asked.
Shouto looked around, at the loud, carefree people surrounding him: at Kaminari, shoving Sero’s face in cake, at Ochako, stuffing her face and sighing happily with Tsuyu, at Yaoyorozu, laughing quietly at Iida’s attempts to control the troublemakers.
Shouto chuckled, laughing to himself. Then, he turned to Izuku. “Does it count if it’s already come true?”
Izuku smiled at him, his eyes aglow. He turned his head upward, placing a warm, soft kiss on Shouto’s cheek. “Wanting things to remain the same is a great wish.”
But no, Shouto thought. He didn’t want them to remain the same.
He wanted them to keep growing, to keep learning, to keep caring, to keep healing.
To keep… loving.
He sighed, burying his face in Izuku’s hair. Around them, the party continued on, with laughter and jokes and happiness all around. But he stayed where he was, taking a second to pause for a moment.
Shouto breathed in. And out.
Peace. At last.

Happy Birthday, Shouto! <33
