Au I Have Been Drawing A Lot Lately. Vincent Finds Out Equilateris Had Abusive Past Relationships So

Sometimes I forget that Flatland is something I can interpret as my own thing so I'ma do that now.

Ik these look very inspired by Flatland 2007, cuz they lowkey are, but I just really like how A. Sphere looks I'm sorry (ik the creator is bad but I can't help the brainworms). I wanted to add quirks tho so it's better imo. My versions of the characters if you will. More fun to draw for me and less ugly (on A. Square's end).

They have actual names and design purposes for each thing. Abel's glove to prevent contamination into himself from Flatland, Anthony's glasses and front hairs being makeshift arms, all that has a reason lol.

The Flatland parts of Flatland the book stay the same mostly. I'm not changing much there. I do want to flesh out Spaceland tho, so I'ma do that cuz I'm super self-indulgent.

In my version of Flatland, I think it would've been fuunier if out of frustration, Abel Spherious ("A Sphere"), grabbed Anthony Squaur ("A Square") out of Flatland and yoinked him out without thinking about the consequences. He realizes shortly after that he probably shouldn't have done that, and it will probably have horrendous consequences later down the line.

Abel almost kills Anthony on accident, so uh, yikes. But then after bringing him out of Flatland, he decides to work with it, taking him back to his office to do his report on Flatland. He sorta keeps him hidden, but on the last day Anthony gets leaked to the public and the war starts over it rip. However, the span that this is like 3 days, so they get time to chat and develop communication skills n stuff.

Also, since the gravity is so harsh on Anthony's body, he struggles with talking, only emerging little squeaks. Eventually he's able to use a device to get his thoughts across (probably like a telegraph or smth), so the first day or so of being out of Flatland was a terrible time for communication. Especially when you're so entranced with the idea of seeing your "god's" insides.

Also, Abel just kinda finds Anthony gross in general (cuz he looks like a bacteria) and rejects all advances until Anthony learn to properly yap though morse code. When Anthony writes the Flatland novel, Abel translates it for the world of Spaceland to read and not want to obliterate Flatland. However, that is after his misadventures in the fourth dimension (boo a Heightlander's Escape reference tomato tomato).

These are some studies of the two. I really like the hairs on Anthony, it makes him so much more expressive. Also, Abel is a slaying king, I love him sm.

Also, Abel is like the last person who should be in charge of a company. That shit goin down the drain in a week I swear (he came to work high every day his first month of being CEO). I'll probably change the name a lil I just have to cook.

evvery one of my characters is the universe experiencing itself over and over and over again . intersection between the self and what has made you into what you are. all of them are inextricably linked and some of them are really just another character but cast in a different light. vincent and r. line are the same but vincent is what could have been and r. line is what never should have been. oblisi and trey are the same but oblisi is a soul repressed out of fear and trey is a fire fueled by such venom filled wood that his fires burn far too high for himself and give off fumes that are only by products of the terror and apprehension and uncertainty he is filled to the brim with. all are born from the same source and it is both horrifying and transfixing to look at the one you detest and only see a mirror of yourself

R. Line justifies her neglect and disdain towards Trey, her own son, by using the Gospel of Three Dimensions, claiming that the Holy Sphere purposefully guided evolution to give Women larger brains than the Isosceles of the village. Women are inherently better, and are above the Isosceles: this is the structure set in stone. Trey, suffering daily under this dogma, questions their religion and the existence of the Holy Sphere. If the Sphere was real, he would have already saved them from the conditions of poverty and suffering their villages are put into. Because of R. Line's overbearing nature and refusal to accept any other point of view other than her own, Trey does not believe that the Third Dimension or an afterlife exist. R. Line is content with sending her son to his own death, under reassurance that their next life in a higher dimension is all that matters.

umm now some very choppy explanation of symbolism in this bc it's hard to put into words:

-The background is yellow to show the idea of the Sphere, specifically R. Line's ideal of the Sun as a holy object that is intertwined with the Holy Sphere: Only R. Line's beliefs are what matter, and are extremely overbearing and searing. R. Line is outlined in yellow, as well as the pupil of her eye being yellow to show this ideal is the lens she views the world through. Trey does not conform to the idea of a Holy Sphere, and has no yellow on him, but he is surrounded by it because it is forced onto him.

-Also relating to their pupil colors: In white, Trey is seeking out an answer grounded in reality and truth. In yellow, R. Line makes up her own answers, and justifies them through saying they are only what the Sphere would want. Similarly to this: Trey has a very solid outline because he wants direct answers that make logical sense and can be proven. R. Line's outline is blurry/indistinct because she is willing to lead her life using blind faith. Trey's limbs are fading because his limbs are the body part that have the most semblance to his mother (very angular + have spikes on the shoulders), and no matter what he does, he is still his mother's son. + it also shows how he does not have much time left before his death

-The black holes on the bottom represent the cross-sections of a Sphere, and the Sun in the back represents R. Line's pendant. These are not concepts that can be translated correctly into 2-Dimensions, and stick out as something that is really not true. These concepts are shadows displayed on a wall in an attempt to mimic the real thing, hence them being black and solid. It is an attempt for them to project the Sphere into their lives, but in the end, it is all false. The idea that R. Line dedicates herself to, an all-powerful and omnipotent Sphere that will bring salvation, is false. But she whole-heartedly believes in them, and willingly allows them to consume her life. It is also why she is fully black: Her life is only a vessel for her belief in the Sphere, and she has no real emotional connection to this plane of existence. This is also why blood is draining into the most prominent cross-section: She allows so much death and suffering, ruins the lives of all that get close to her, watches her son's death without lifting a finger to prevent it. All in the Sphere's name.

vincent and equilateris have a complicated relationship. at its core, vincent uses equilateris for his own purposes, whether or not he would ever admit or truly even realize/intend it. there is something rotted and atrophied inside of vincent from birth. equilateris is the neutral solvent to make him pure. but if equilateris is expected to be the one to wash vincent clean of his reality, it means it is simply transferred onto him. equilateris suffers in his love for vincent, no matter how genuine their relationship is. his personhood is rejected in favor of a surface level ideal that makes him a blank slate for others to project themselves onto.

(why, exactly, does vincent view equilateris as such a pure being despite the fact that he extends his prejudice to all? firstly, in order to be able to rationalize his love for equilateris, it’s necessary that he views equilateris as “different” from the rest. putting him on a pedestal is involved with that. secondly, equilateris is so secure and confident in his identity. vincent over-saturates his ego and places himself above all else in order to make up for the crushing reality that he has no direction in life and sees himself as the worst. he cannot fathom the sort of mindset equilateris has, devoid of self-loathing and self-destruction. someone so pure, that someone as tainted as him could learn from. There’s more to it that i do not know how to convey in words because it is closely linked to the context of their creation)
