ive been thinking about the plotholes in the 2016 met gala narrative. Its absolutely crazy that no one seems to question the whole swiftvin-hiddleswift-toe timeline and we obviously know that none of the above relationships are real. but another strange thing i only just noticed is that why was joe alwyn, up and coming new actor with no lead roles or recognition was even doing at THE met gala…how did he even get an invite..i doubt he could pay $30,000 even if he got an invite from somewhere
Yes, this is a curious question that has been discussed previously. I believe he was there with an actor. But someone else can chime in with more details.
Dorothea is about a fading relationship between the narrator and an old friend. It references a lot of nostalgia, and makes it clear the narrator would welcome the friend back with open arms. It seems to clearly be about Taylor & Karlie Kloss.
[Verse 1]
Hey, Dorothea, do you ever stop and think about me?
When we were younger down in the park
This is a reference to the Big Sur trip tay & k took, where they stopped in many state parks along the way. This was shortly after they met, and seemed to cement their interest in each other.
Honey, making a lark of the misery
You got shiny friends since you left town
Karlie has been seen with many rich and famous friends, some with lesser morals than others (see icky image below). Many of these “friends” are business connections that are included in the circle due to their money or connections.
A tiny screen’s the only place I see you now
There are a couple of meanings to this line - 1) in pandemic times a lot of loved ones are reduced to an image on tiny screens, as we can only FaceTime with them and not spend real time with them. 2) It could also be a reference to not seeing of talking to someone much, and only seeing them on social media, and keeping up with their life that way.
And I got nothing but well-wishes for ya
However, Taylor doesn’t seem bitter in this song. She’s willing to work things out.
[Pre-Chorus]
Ooh, this place is the same as it ever was
Ooh, but you don’t like it that way
As hinted at earlier in the song, here Taylor indicates that Karlie is the one who has changed and Taylor herself has stayed the same.
[Chorus]
It’s never too late to come back to my side
The stars in your eyes shined brighter in Tupelo
Tupelo is a town in Mississippi. Karlie is from St. Louis, which is also a town in middle America, however Taylor already talked about St. Louis in LGAD and she probably figured it would be too obvious to do it twice in six months.
And if you’re ever tired of bеing known for who you know
Karlie’s alleged sister-in-law is Iv@nk@ T*$%# and to the GP she’s married to a Ku$hn3r - so she is closely associated with two high-profile criminal families. Press frequently mentions this relation when reporting on Karlie.
You know, you’ll always know me, Dorothea (Uh-uh)
Dorothea (Ah-ah)
This is interesting because a lot of discussion on tumblr talks about karlie cleaning up the ku$hn3r image, but this twists that idea, focusing on karlie instead and pointing out that because shes always cleaning up someone else’s image, now her own image must be cleaned up, and associating with Taylor would do that.
[Post-Chorus]
Ooh, you'rе a queen sellin’ dreams, sellin’ makeup and magazines
This is the most obvious Karlie line, given that she has been on hundreds of magazine covers and ad campaigns, including work for many makeup brands.
Oooh I’d buy anything from you
This line shows Taylor’s love for her, and also has several meanings (like may of these lines). 1) literally she’s saying that Karlie makes the products that she sells look great but 2) she’s also saying that people will “buy it” as in - buy the narrative that Karlie is feeding the GP.
[Verse 2]
Hey, Dorothea, do you ever stop and think about me?
When it was calmer, skipping the prom just to piss off your mom and her pageant schemes
And damn, Dorothea, they all wanna be ya
Karlie has many accomplishments and an incredible career, that makes her life seem enviable…
But are you still the same soul I met under the bleachers? Well…
…but sometimes success changes people, something that Taylor muses on here. Also (this is a bit of a reach) but Taylor frequently uses sun imagery to represent Karlie, making “soul” a fun little word play - “sol” means sun in mythology and in many different languages, so she’s asking if the current life Karlie is living gives her the same energy and joy as she had when she first met Taylor.
[Pre-Chorus]
Ooh, I guess I’ll never know
Ooh, and you’ll go on with the show
This line has two meanings, first being that Karlie is in many fashion shows every single year. The second being that the complicated bearding love triangle is a “show” in and of itself - it’s make believe and it’s for other people to see and be entertained by.
[Chorus]
[Outro]
Let me show you the full clip! After ‘You are in love’ we chanted 'Kaylor’ & 'Taylor’. Then big screen showing 'Kaylor’ sign, Tay said 'I love you’ in Chinese! Enjoy it!
I'm proud of you
Also, I remember Taylor saying that This Love started as a poem that she had written about somethimg that happened in her life a year before 1989 dropped.
I can't imagine what happened! 😭🥺
Of course it was a poem l—and yes... my emisue heart melts with this video. I'm crying with you friend.
Yeah, according to the lover diaries she wrote This Love in October of 2012. These lyrics hit a certain nerve for me…
sending girls the courage they need to kiss another girl in 2022
🌋 when your reputation is not a pretty sight, i will tarnish my own image to match your frame; dust coated glass, speckles of stars filling into the cracks. i will meet you down at the bottom, my love.

dancing with our hands tied
Do you think that bothers taylor that people speculate about her sexuality?
no.
listen to episode 3 of the podcast.
in summation: celebs who do not want their sexualities speculated on do not signal the way taylor does. they do not make themselves the center of an lgbtq trailer park in a music video. they do not release a song called me! on lesbian visibility day with the phrase “me! out now!” they do not deck themselves in rainbows and sing “i want her midnights” on national television. and they definitely would not allow a documentary to air that they produced in which they list “gay pride” as part of a list including “everything that makes me, me”
i am confident that taylor is signaling to her lgbt fans and wants us to know that she’s one of us. if i were not extremely certain of this i wouldn’t even have this blog or podcast. speculating on someone’s sexuality that signals as much and as loudly as she does is fine from a respectful distance. I'm just in love with this edit, the backsound and kaylor moments. You know, I love their friendship so much. I was 20-something just like Taylor and Karlie when they were always together, inseperable. They provide positive vibes in my life or maybe some other people. Please, throw away your evil comments about Karlie. She had suffered a lot. Hopefully sooner or later we can see them together again 💙
