“embrace me,” he orders, muffled against your throat. it’s sullen, demanding, and you make no move to comply.

your husband whines wordlessly at you—it’s that noise which calms the tumultuous unease within you, an assurance that whatever mood he’d been in is quickly passing (or that your touch is so important he’ll cast aside any other thoughts in favor of pleading with you). he kisses up your throat, along your jaw, only to nose against your cheek like some affectionate cat. when he speaks it’s a beg; beseeching. “embrace me, wife.”

“talk to me, husband,” you retort. “your sulking is bad for my health. i was terrified.”

against your skin, his lips quirk into a teasing smile. “you’re adorable when you’re terrified.”

Someone has slipped into your room.

You’re asleep. You have been for hours, yet Satoru’s borderline paranoid insistence on you learning to defend yourself even while resting have led to a far less deep manner of slumber, and so you’re roused by the simple sound of the door opening and are made aware of this unwelcome visitor the moment they enter.

It’s all you can do to keep still, even out your breath. Your mind conjures thoughts of your guards slaughtered just beyond your door, your maids and your ladies-in-waiting massacred in your vast array of rooms meant to be a sanctuary, your king returning home from his diplomatic trip east to find your own body not even in your shared bed but in the lonely one occupying the queen’s bedchamber, yours in name but so rarely used.

You hear the figure’s footsteps approach you; they sound large, imposing, though you dare not open your eyes until the ornate dagger beneath your pillow is in hand and the possible assassin close enough that it can do you any good.

Your fingers find the heavy hilt, wrap around it securely just as the mattress beneath you dips with the weight of the trespasser. The motions are ingrained in your body from weeks of practice with your husband; you lash out, knife against the intruder’s throat before they can realize you’re not asleep, aiming to slash at the throat—but then you pause, thankful that you’d opened your eyes to see the face of your attacker before you spilled their blood.

“Satoru?”

and though i can’t recall your face, i still got love for you 。・:*:・゚☆

megumi fushiguro x reader | wc: 0.9k | L’s FOLKLORE event

And Though I Can’t Recall Your Face, I Still Got Love For You 。・:*:・゚☆

The last thing he wanted to do was agree to this mission.

He tried nearly anything and everything to get out of it. Offered it up to Kugisaki (who’s been dying to get out of Japan for quite some time now), tried to fill his schedule with local tasks to feign busy, faked a head cold the day of his departing flight. Incredibly desperate, he even told Gojo he was thinking of quitting sorcery—his knowing guardian saw right through his fib, having raised him as the dedicated helper he is today.

It was a long one, the longest one he’s been on, yet. Months and miles away from his home, where he’d have to leave you alone in a space the two of you were meant to share.

But that’s what a sorcerer does, what they have to do. Megumi knows this, and he knows that you know this, too. However, that doesn’t make the situation at hand any easier.

He hesitantly agreed to the mission after a lot of begging and pleading, not because he knew it was the right thing to do, but because of the promise the two held yourselves to.

One call a day, no more and no less, to make time for you—to feel together, though apart.

And if there’s one thing Megumi’s good at, it’s keeping his word.

to pretend: to make as if; to put on an act.

megumi angst - the extra heart shattering kind

warnings: none i think, just a wedding and a sad sad reader

To Pretend: To Make As If; To Put On An Act.

“y/n?”

megumis eyes gaze adoringly into yours and his voice is clear in the silent barn, decorated heavily with blue flowers and white ribbons. since you were kids this barn was a haven for you, set on the bank of a softly flowing river, amplifying the shrieks of joy from you and megumi as you caught the slippery toads that slept in the corners or took turns reading long and exciting fantasy books to each other, acting out the scenes with thick twigs you’d found on the barn floor as wooden swords, stubby arms haphazardly swinging the sharp branches in each other’s faces. and now, it was housing a wedding, a wedding that you and megumi and your best friend rina had been planning for months. every detail from the thick soft napkins to the tablecloths draped over the long tables horizontally lined up on either side of the barn, making way for an aisle in the center. but it was all wrong.

“i’m not so sure about this gumi” you mumble to him, but rina steps forward confidently and takes your hands in hers.

“y/n, there is no one, no one, i would be more honored to have as a best friend,” her hands squeeze yours softly, emphasizing her words, “…and no one i would be more honored to have speak at my wedding.”

“my wedding”

you grimace at her words, but this is her day, her and megumis day, and you’d be dammed if anyone ruined the wedding of the two people you loved the most, even if that person was you. so you step up to the microphone and take it shakily in your hands. you make eye contact with megumi one more time, and you see his eyes sparkle with unshed tears as his hand reaches for rinas, who smiles genuinely and lovingly at you. you clear your throat, and begin the story that will today join the two in front of you together, as husband and wife, and forever tear you apart.

“when i first met rina,” you begin…

“me-gu-mi!” you whine, pulling at his sleeve,“you can’t be this antisocial forever, what if i die? then you’ll have no friends,” you state bluntly.

“but i don’t need other friends.” megumi pouts, trying to withstand the power of your twelve year old arms threatening to rip his sweatshirt apart. “why do we hafta go hang out with her?”

“because i wanna and because i said so,” you say stubbornly, and drag him over to the empty lunch table, save for a dark haired girl with her hair tied up with a red hair tie , “we’ll be like the three musketeers!”

the girl notices you and the grumpy megumi behind you , and her face lights up into a smile. “hi,” she says shyly, looking up at you, “wanna sit?”

“of course!” you say, letting go of megumis sleeve and eagerly slide into the seat next to her. “i’m y/n, and this is megumi,” you add, pointing to the dark haired boy occupying the seat next to you, “wanna be friends?”. the girl nods again, pointing at herself, “i’m rina” she introduces with a smile.

“…i think originally rina and megumi were,” you pause, thinking of the right word because you hadn’t practiced beforehand, hadn’t even had a draft because while you were able to force yourself to help with everything else, drowning in the work to forget who it was for, you couldn’t bring yourself to relive these moments any longer than you had to. “…weary of each other”, you continue, which earns a few chuckles from the audience.

“is that your brother?” rina whispers to you when megumi goes to throw out his trash, taking yours with him as well like he’s been doing since elementary, but leaving rinas with a glare that he knows will earn a pinch later on.

“no, silly,” you giggle,”he’s just my friend.”

“oh,” rina says, “i don’t think he likes me that much.”

“megumi just isn’t good with new people,” you reassure her, “i’m sure he’ll warm up to you.”

“…but it was as if a magnetic force drew them together,” you paused, the physical hurt of saying these words numbing your mind, “they couldn’t stay away from each other if they wanted.”

“gums i can’t make it to the library,” your voice is lined with annoyance and disappointment, clear even through the phone, “you and rina’ll just have to stay without me.” megumi hmphs from the other end but reluctantly agrees to stay for your sake, you want them to be friends, you were tired of the tension between them during those lunches, and you’d grown close to rina, you wanted her to stay, and that meant megumi had to accept her as well. but accept was a pathetic word to describe what came next. first it was subtle. your phone pinged and you looked down to find a text from megumi. “me and rina are going to that bakery downtown, wanna come?” you frowned, when did they make those plans? maybe at the library, maybe they exchanged numbers? but you shrugged it off, happy your two best friends were able to get along this well. then it sped up. you’d gone out shopping with your mom for birthday presents for your brother, and walking into a candy shop you saw megumi, pointing at different jars of candy next to a blushing and excited rina, who was doing the same. why were they here without you? it’s not that you wanted to control the friendship, but you were the three musketeers, the inseparables, yet you’d known nothing about this plan. so you slipped out and pushed it to the back of your mind.

“…and soon enough the inevitable happened,” you continue, and you see megumi wink at rina and a couple guests laugh at the exchange, “they fell in love. why wouldn’t they? they were p-perfect for each other.”

“y/n? can i talk to you?” rina says meekly, not quite meeting your eyes.

“of course rina! what’s up?” you ask, although some dark angry part of you already knows what she’s about to say. the same thing that megumi had said to you two weeks ago, sitting on your bedroom floor, fiddling with his fingers and pleading you not to be upset. “y/n i like someone,” he’d started, “she’s pretty and she’s smart and she’s everything i’ve ever dreamed of.” your heart races, you’ve liked megumi too, for the longest time, ever since that day he’d given you his umbrella and walked through the pouring rain with you to make sure you got to your house even though it was in the opposite direction of his. “she’s so caring and i’ve just realized how much more she means to me then a friend after all our years together. you nod shyly to megumi, and reach out to grab his hand, but he lifts it up and runs it through his hair. “so?” he asks you, “does rina like me back?”

“y/n?” you hear rina say, and you realize you’ve zoned out for most of her confession, too lost in the one megumi made about her. “does gumi like me back?”

“w-ahat? oh yes, yes he does!” you feign excitement, and push her out the door, “you should go find him! confess, it’ll go well i promise, he’s liked you for a while too.” and when she leaves you close the door and collapse, all hopes of megumi gone and down the gutter. even worse, you were all still friends, this was a relationship you would have to support, you didn’t hate either of them for it, you knew they were both exceptional people and you were happy for them, but at what expense?

”which brings us to now, this couple standing before you, two of the sweetest, most compassionate and kind people, and my two best friends, who are about to be wedded and deserve all the happiness in the world. i know how much you love each other, i can see it in your actions, the way he pulls out chairs for you rina, and cares for you even when you don’t want to care for yourself”, you say, remembering the time you’d spent hours packing and planning for a day at the museum together but megumi had texted you asking you to make up a reason to cancel because rina was on her period but too stubborn to cancel herself, “and the way she calms you and makes you happy, lights up the light in your eyes and warms your heart megumi,” you say, recalling the time megumi had broken his arm and you’d been there first since you were closer, him wincing when you hugged him and giving short tired answers to your questions, but lighting up when tina ran through the doors, seeing her eyes light up and look past you to him had hurt , seeing them hug and megumi not flinching once had hurt too. “i hope that you will forever be happiest together, and that the future holds nothing but good for you two.” a future i’m not in you think. “thank you.” you say and the tears flow as you step down from the stage and celebrate the joining of the man you love most with the woman you consider a sister. but your tears are hidden in plain sight, sheer overwhelming emotion, an outpouring of happiness it looks like to onlookers. but it is only the opposite. you slip away for the vows, you don’t think you’re strong enough for that after the speech you’ve just given, and eventually megumi finds you, sitting on the curving stairs leading up to the loft, crying softly.

“you ok y/n/n?” he asks softly, his thumb grazing your cheek as he wipes a tear away, but the action no longer flutters your heart, the heart in question too broken beyond repair it seemed, to ever flutter again.

“i’m fine gumi, i’m fine.”

if only you weren’t pretending.

another sigh.

you roll your eyes in annoyance from the thousandth sigh you’ve heard in the past ten minutes from the raven haired male seated next to you in the black car.

“oh could you stop sighing and be patient for once?”

megumi huffed, turning to look out the window on his side before sighing again and pulling out his phone from his pocket.

itadori, seated in the front passenger seat, was also scrolling through his phone, tapping his foot softly against the car to music playing in his headphones.

the three of you were currently waiting for two people - nobara, who overslept but was now on her way, and gojo, who had forgotten his sunglasses back inside his house.

the car you were all sitting in belonged to gojo as well, relatively small for 5 people to sit in, yet all of you rushed towards the address he had sent at 7 am on a saturday morning when he claimed it was an emergency and needed you all there fast.

however, when you reached the designated location, all three of you out of breath expecting to see a grueling scene of blood and fighting, you were instead met with your hyper teacher with a large bag jumping up and down excitedly in front of his home.

“we’re going on a trip!” he had yelled as megumi and you facepalmed, groaning at the same time while itadori gasped and started jumping with him.

he claims that it was a much needed celebration after one of the most difficult missions you all had completed the week before, but you all knew he was just lonely and wanted to have fun.

the car door suddenly pulls open on megumi’s side, catching all of your attention, greeted by a very confused looking nobara who sighed as she squished into the car.

you stifled a laugh as she basically had her behind shoved on megumi’s face and foot using his knee as a step stool, earning a yelp of pain from the male to which the both of you ignored.

“where’s the blindfold idiot? where are we even going?”

nobara, now squished into the space between you and megumi, plops her head down onto your shoulder with a yawn. the ginger haired female was never one to be a morning person, and neither were the rest of you.

except the dancing pink haired male sitting in the front passenger seat, happily grooving to whatever music was blasting in his ears.

“gojo says he forgot his glasses, he’s inside the - oh, there he is.”

the car door on the driver’s side opens, the grown male having to bend down a good amount just to enter the car.

“good morning my beloved students! how are we this wonderful sunny morning?”

gojo turns to face the three of you, flashing a bright smile with his black sunglasses perched low on his nose, awaiting your responses.

megumi yawned, resuming scrolling on his phone as if he didn’t hear him, and nobara drifting back off to sleep still on your shoulder.

feeling the slightest bit bad with the lack of response, you decide to break the awkward silence.

“uh, morning, gojo-sensei. but - where are we all going so early?”

he pouts for a moment before smiling at you, turning back to face front as he starts up the car.

“can always count on my favorite student y/n to talk to this old man! and as for where we’re going…”

he winks in the rearview mirror, the roaring of the car engines signaling it coming to life.

“it’s a surprise, of course!”

you sigh, not surprised in the least with his response.

“sensei, i’m hungry,” itadori had finally taken off his headphones, now placed around his neck. you feel the car finally start to move, driving off down the road.

“oh! i got a few meat buns for you all, here, they’re in the white bag.”

itadori excitedly rummages through the bag, pulling out a neatly wrapped bun, which looked pretty good and you hadn’t had anything to eat this morning either-

“y/n, nobara, megumi, take some or you’ll be too hungry.” gojo pats the white bag, motioning for the rest of you to eat.

you lean forward, taking one for yourself, your movement waking nobara up from her short nap.

“uhh — oh, the blindfold idiot is here. so where are we going?” she stretches her arms above her, cursing under her breath when it bumps against the car roof.

nobara spots the now unwrapped meat bun in your hand, quickly reaching forward to grab one for herself before taking a large bite out of it, letting out a hum of satisfaction.

“aw.. you guys really want to know that bad?” gojo sighs, turning around to face you all at a red light, pondering for a moment before grinning.

“okay! our first stop is the shopping mall, and we’ll head to the clothing store!”

“is going to the shopping mall...our vacation?” megumi speaks up with a look of disgust, to which gojo laughs.

“of course not, dear megumi! call it...a preparation for the later celebration.” the white haired sorcerer responds with a mysterious tone, turning back around as the light turns green again.

“hmm.. are we going to a fashion show?!” itadori exclaims happily, making the man next to him laugh heartily.

“oh, we all know who would come in first place if that was the case.” he dramatically strikes a pose, all four of you resisting the urge to puke in his car right then.

“sure, but we all know who’d come in last.” you snicker, stealing a glance at the raven haired male on the other side of the car, smirking when you see his glare towards you.

“as if you’d get a higher place than me with your looks.”

“what the hell did you s-”

“god - can you lovebirds take your argument somewhere else?! i’m trying to enjoy my meal here.”

nobara huffs, kicking megumi’s leg before turning to you, smiling apologetically as she feasts on her third meat bun.

“lovebirds - are you out of your mind?!” megumi stands up out of shock, bumping his head on the roof of the car, making everyone laugh at his flustered expression.

“oh dear, y/n, why don’t you check on your wounded lover? i’m sure he’d love some assistan-”

you throw an unopened meat bun towards gojo’s face, making him yelp and smirk at the red on your face.

of course, everyone thought there was something going on between you and that idiot from your constant bickering, and wouldn’t stop teasing you both once they found out.

it was definitely annoying.

...or not.

shaking the strange thoughts away, you quickly looked out your window, pretending to be immersed in the buildings and cars passing by.

if only you had taken another look at megumi that second, you would’ve seen he was feeling the same way.

-- -- --

“alright kids, we’re here!”

you looked at your surroundings, a tall, silver building coming into view to which you recognized as one of the largest malls in Japan.

all of you exited the car, immediately groaning at the blazing heat of the sun, wanting to quickly enter the building to feel the cool air of the air conditioner.

the mall was usually pretty crowded on weekends, but gojo managed to lead you all towards one of the large clothing stores to the - swimsuit section..?

“uh, sensei, why are we here..?” itadori widens his eyes at all the bikinis and interesting ... female clothing.

“to pick out clothes, of course!”

an idea pops into your head, turning around to face gojo. “are we going to the beach?”

gojo smiles widely, patting your head as he drags megumi and itadori to the male section. “you’re my smartest student for a reason, y/n!”

as they walked further away, you could hear megumi’s protests of not wanting to be here and itadori’s exclaims of wanting to stay in the female section.

“call me when you guys are done!” the loud male calls after you and nobara, disappearing on the other side.

the ginger female face palms at your teacher’s usual antics, before turning around and dragging your arm to search for bikinis.

“well, might as well enjoy ourselves, right?” nobara winks at you, already going off by herself towards the unlimited racks of clothing.

just then, you feel a vibration come from your pocket, pulling out your phone to see a text from no one but your annoying teacher and the group chat he created with all of you.

blindfold idiot : don’t worry about prices! get as much as you want, it’s on me! :)

you chuckle, although grateful that he was going out of his way to do so much for you guys.

looking around, you begin to search for your own bikini, visibly recoiling at some of the more revealing ones.

after an hour of painful trying on different sets of swimwear, you finally narrowed it down to between a dark blue and black two-piece.

deciding to find nobara to ask for her opinion, however she was nowhere in sight, until you heard a familiar shout behind you.

“oi y/n! what’s talking you guys so long?” itadori runs over with a pair of dark shorts slung over his arm, followed by gojo and megumi.

“oh - i don’t know where nobara went, but i’ve just picked out two that i’m still deciding on…”

gojo tilts his head to the side, already beginning to take the clothes from you. “why not just get both?”

you stop him, shaking your head. “no, it’s okay, just-”

“sorry guys! i’m done.” nobara rushes over, a dark red bikini in her hand as she beams brightly at you.

“did you pick, y/n?”

“uh, yeah, which one do you think is better?”

she hums, eyeing both sets for a moment, before her gaze was directed to something behind you.

“ah… get the dark blue one! i like the color.”

you wondered what was up with her weird tone, but shrugged it off and placed the black one back on its rack.

“okay kids! follow dad to checkout in the front!”

gojo marches towards the checkout section, all of you trailing behind him. it did look like he was your dad.

after paying for all of your clothes, you all make your way back to his car for the next place he was going to take you all to.

“woohoo! beach time!” itadori exclaims happily, gojo already starting the car and beginning to drive off.

“yup! it’s pretty close to here, won’t be a long drive.”

a grunt comes from the left side of you, followed by a “why am i even here,” making you exhale slowly to prevent yourself from landing a fist right in the middle of his face.

somehow you were now sitting in the middle of nobara and megumi, after nobara had hurriedly entered the car before you and took your previous seat, only winking in response when you raised a questioning eyebrow.

and coincidentally, she just decides to place her large white bag holding both of your bikinis in between you and her, leaving you no choice but to sit closer to the mumbling idiot next to you.

after a few minutes of bickering and shoving in the cramped space between you two, gojo finally announces that you’ve reached your destination.

“woahh!” the pink haired teenager excitedly runs out of the car, rushing ahead as gojo parks the car and the rest of you piling out along.

a wide area of beach stretches out alongside the peaceful ocean, littered with people enjoying their time under umbrellas or soaking in the sun. you watch as a group of teenagers bounce a volleyball back in forth in the water, laughter echoing in the sky when one of them trips and falls face first into the water.

“well, kids! feel free to get changed in the bathroom over there, i’ll wait for you all here!” gojo points to the bathrooms at the back, already stripping himself of his shirt, leaving him in only his shorts. he turns back to the car, pulling out multiple towels as well as a cooler he somehow managed to hide in the back of the car.

“you sure are prepared, aren’t you?” nobara laughs, while you take the clothes you all had purchased earlier and pulls out your own.

“all for my lovely students, of course! now go get changed,” he pushes you all in the direction of the bathrooms, to which all of you laugh at and head into your own respective stalls.

after successfully putting on your own bikini, you were glad nobara had picked this dark blue one for you. it might just become your favorite set, the way it fit you perfectly and the color was definitely prettier than the black one.

leaving the bathrooms, you feel the burst of humid air once again, sighing in relief when you feel the smallest breeze whoosh past you.

spotting gojo and itadori already standing by an umbrella and some towels on the ground, you start to make your way over to them before the sight of a familiar figure stops you in your tracks.

megumi, who had also just exited the bathrooms, wincing as the heat hit his skin.

his previous clothing all removed, save for a pair of blue shorts that you assumed he purchased from the mall earlier.

your eyes trailed along his now exposed torso, taking in the sight of his light yet defined abs, the results of his constant training, no less. his arms, usually hidden by the uniform’s long sleeves, flexed lightly in the sun as he shields his eyes from the brightness.

shaking your head profusely as you realize you had been shamelessly ogling over his body in broad daylight, he turns to you, eyebrows furrowed with a questioning expression.

“what are you looking at, huh?”

you roll your eyes, about to ignore him and walk away before you notice his eyes scan over your form as well, slowly trailing over your legs before-

he coughs, sputtering and turning away to adjust his line of sight somewhere not facing you, making you smirk to yourself.

but something felt weird. or rather, looked weird.

you tilt your head to the side, megumi’s shorts catching your eye as you process what looked so oddly… familiar about it.

it was dark blue.

the same shade of dark blue as -

your head whips down to your own two piece, and back to his shorts, and back to your own clothes.

even the design, the pattern on the sides of your set and his shorts were identical.

thinking back to when you were all back at the mall, you groan as realization hits you that nobara was the one who picked out this one for you.

she must’ve known it was a matching set when she saw megumi’s choice of shorts.

the male still standing opposite of you seems to have come to the same conclusion, mouth forming into an ‘o’ as his cheeks begin to tint pink.

pretending like you have no idea of the situation, you turn to head over to where the rest of the group was sitting.

“ooh y/n! you look great!” itadori cheers upon seeing you, waving to megumi who was just a few steps behind you.

“thanks yuji, you too,” you smile at the bright boy, who looked like he couldn’t wait to get in the water and bathe in the sun.

you catch nobara’s eye, raising your eyebrows in a way that says, ‘really?’ to which she just responds with a wink and a quiet laugh.

“well kids, go out there and have some fun! the old man is going to stay here and relax, just call if you need anything!”

with that, you all run off towards the water cheering, with a certain male grumbling as he follows along.

you feel the cold water reach your waist as you submerge deeper into the ocean, a pleasant contrast to the blazing heat on your upper body. an small occasional wave pushes you slightly, enjoying the feeling of being surrounded by your friends as well as the cool water.

“hey y/n!” you hear nobara’s voice call your name from just a few feet away, turning around to answer, instead being met with a splash of water to your face.

after wiping your eyes from the liquid being splashed into it, you heard her giggle from across from you.

“is that how we’re playing now? perfect time for revenge then,” you smirk at her dying laughter, her arms already reaching up to shield her face from your attack, but was just a second too late as you throw a large amount of water at her.

“hey—! oh, it’s on-“ she coughs before quickly recovering and launching a water attack at you again, however this time you heard a familiar male cough and sputter right behind you.

“what the hell.” you turn to see megumi’s hair now wet with water dripping from the ends, his fingers running through the strands to move it out of his face.

your eyes trail lower, following the water droplets as it slides down his collarbone, then his chest, then his stoma-

“i want to join too!” itadori suddenly jumps at you three, the impact of his body against the water sending a large splash to all of you, making you laugh and resume splashing water at each other.

ready to send one particularly strong wave towards itadori, you suddenly feel your foot catch onto a hard object on the sand making you lose your balance as you trip forward, arms reaching out to somehow stop the impact.

ready to fall face first into the water, you feel a pair of rough hands grab your waist from behind, pulling you backwards mid-fall. regaining your balance again in the water, you become aware of your body being pressed up against a hard surface and the two hands that had saved you still gripping your sides.

turning around, you’re beyond shocked to recognize no one but megumi, lips parted slightly, panting with the same annoyed expression as he looks down at you, your faces mere inches apart. you could feel his heartbeat against your back, thumping at an unusually quick pace, almost matching your own.

swallowing the strange lump in your throat, you move away from him - immediately missing the temporary warmth he had provided with his body pressed against yours - and feel your cheeks heat up despite the cool breeze that was passing by.

“uh - thanks.. for that.” you managed to get out, avoiding making eye contact with him, looking at every other direction.

“tch. don’t be so clumsy. it’s annoying.”

he then turns around to walk away, leaving you with your mouth opened, shocked at the fact that he just called you annoying for tripping on a rock.

thank heavens for the darkening sky, making it difficult for you to see his blushing cheeks.

wait, dark—?

you look up at the sky, expecting to immediately look away due to the brightness of the sun, only to be met with a dark, gloomy sky with clouds moving over instead. in just mere seconds, it was almost like someone draped a large cover over the sky, making it completely dark on a summer day.

suddenly, a loud thunder crack could be heard in the distance, making every person that was in the water retreat back onto shore, panicking.

you feel droplets start to fall on your skin, getting heavier and louder as it started fully raining on the beach. all of you ran back to gojo, who was already packing up the things he brought, a worried expression on his usually calm face.

“get in the car, i’ll be there in a second.”

all of you obeyed, settling back in the car seats as raindrops continue to fall on the window, the patter of the droplets almost soothing if not for the occasional cracks of thunder echoing through the sky.

moments after, gojo enters the car again, sighing loudly as he hands you all towels to dry your wet bodies off. well, as best as you could in a cramped car with limited space to move.

“man, i did not expect there to be heavy rain today. the weather forecast didn’t even say anything about it.” you could hear the pout in his voice, disappointment obvious in his mood.

itadori shrugs, looking out the window at the few remaining people on the beach, packing quickly to get indoors.

“it’s okay, sensei! i enjoyed our time anyway. we should be thanking you for taking us here.”

gojo turns, smiling softly at the male seated next to him attempting to cheer him up, and lets out a large exhale before starting up the car.

“alright! although our time was cut short today, we need to get inside-“ he stops in his words, tapping his chin thoughtfully.

“actually, i can’t drive you all home in this weather. hm—“ he unlocks his phone, tapping a few times on the screen as his eyes scan over the contents.

“ah! there’s a great hotel pretty close to here, let’s just stay there for the night. make sure you tell your parents so they don’t worry, alright?”

the car begins to move, the windshield wipers moving across the window to clean the water off the glass. you pull your phone out to text your mom a quick note about your current situation, earning a reply from her to stay safe and call her if anything happens.

“gosh, it’s so cold,” nobara shivers from beside you, draping the towel over herself in an attempt to create some warmth for her exposed body.

you become aware of your own shivering, already itching to take a warm shower and change back into dry clothing.

the male next to you sneezes, sniffling softly after. gojo sends you all an apologetic look from his seat at the front.

“sorry kiddos, you can change back into your old clothes after a shower at the hotel- oh, we’re here.”

he parks the car in front of a tall, fancy looking building with seemingly never ending windows. you all run out the car and quickly make your way to the entrance, feeling the rain against your skin once again while clutching your belongings in your arms.

“whew… hello! i’d like to make a reservation for us five.” gojo walks up to the lady at the front with a smile.

“welcome, just one second please.” the woman types away on her laptop, keys clicking against her nails as she looks over available rooms for you guys.

“it seems like we only have two rooms with two beds, and one single-bed room, is that okay? we’ve been a little busy due to the rain.”

gojo looks back at you guys, pondering for a moment before nodding back at her. “that’s fine, thank you.”

“who’s going to be with who?” itadori questions, the rest of you wanting to know as well.

“hmm.. i’ll have to be in the single bed room, so…who wants to be together?”

“nobara and i could share one of the rooms,” you offer, since you were both females, it would only be right.

“uh… actually, i- promised to… show itadori this really cool trick!! with my … cursed technique“ she nudges, or more like shoves, itadori while her panicked eyes motion over to you and megumi.

“wha- OH-“ itadori gasps, clearing his throat as he laughs awkwardly. “yeah, and the trick.. is going to take a while— so it’s best if me and her are together!” nobara nods her head up and down quickly in agreement.

“um, we also have a special room with three beds if you are interested.”the woman speaks up awkwardly.

you cock an eyebrow at their weird behavior. “okayy… so, me, megumi and gojo in that one then, and you two in the other? since you seem pretty…excited to show this trick,”, already cringing at the thought of sharing the room with both of the most annoying people you know.

“NO!” they both protest at the same time, looking to each other in panic.

“the- uh, three bed room must be quite expensive! since it’s special, right? so let’s not spend too much of sensei’s money, and he can stay in the basic single room instead.”

nobara and itadori share a proud look, leaving even the hotel lady speechless, hands holding the room keys hanging in the air in the middle of handing them to gojo.

“so.. you’re saying i have to share with…” megumi finally speaks up, casting you a disgusted look.

“..her?”

you scoff at his rude tone, looking towards gojo for his response to this. surely he would disagree.

“uh- i agree! so it’s decided then, megumi and y/n in one, itadori and nobara in one, and me in the single room!”

you gape at his answer, already being dragged along towards the elevator to head up to your respective rooms.

“what?! i’m not going to sleep in the same room with this guy.”

you look at the three of them hiding in one corner of the elevator while megumi mumbles something about how he’d rather sleep outside in the rain.

the elevator dings! signalling that you had reached your floor. itadori, nobara and gojo step out quickly, leaving you eyeing them suspiciously as they try their best to avoid eye contact.

“it’s getting late, make sure to shower and head to bed, alright?”

gojo hands you your room key to the room you were going to share with him, and the other key to nobara.

“i still don’t get why i-“ you start to protest, before two doors slam right before you finish your sentence. the three of them had hurriedly entered their room right next to each other.

megumi grumbles from beside you, staring down at his feet. you two stayed in the hallway for a few moments in silence, already dreading having to deal with the other until the next morning.

sighing, you accept your fate and look at your room key number. 309.

the rooms were in consecutive order, gojo in 311, and the other two in 310.

slotting the key into the hole, you push the door open to reveal an average sized room, beige curtains covering the window on the far end of the room with another shut door which you assumed was the bathroom. it contained a large wooden closet for clothing and other belongings.

you hear soft footsteps follow you into the room, everything else silent besides from the door softly clicking shut.

you sit down on one bed, already taking out your dry clothing from this morning to prepare for your shower.

megumi, still standing in the middle of the room, looks around as if he was searching for something.

he walks over to the shut door, revealing a bright bathroom to which he turns back around and scans the room again, confusion evident on his face.

“what are you doing?”

“where’s the other bed?”

you raise an unimpressed eyebrow, clearly it was right ther-

you turn your head to the left.

then the right.

nothing.

to your left was the wooden closet, and to your right was… a wall.

“did the idiot give us the wrong key?” he grumbles, running a hand through his raven colored locks.

“i’ll go ask.”

you stand, making your way to the door and unlocking it, standing back again in the carpeted hallway.

walking up to room 311, you raise a fist and knock against the door. you decide to wait a couple seconds for a response.

no answer.

“sensei?” you knock again, louder this time.

still no answer.

you sigh, taking out your phone to call him instead. no way he fell asleep that quick.

three times you called, and it went to voicemail. maybe he was in the shower?

you decide to knock on the other two’s room this time, at least hoping to switch rooms with one of them.

silence, again.

even if one of them was showering, the other could answer...right?

groaning, you assumed they were just purposely ignoring you. they were always up to something, after all. it’s not like you were stupid.

“trying to purposely put me and this idiot in the same room…” you huff, accepting your defeat and retreating back to your room.

“none of them answered the door.” you sigh out when the waiting male sends you a questioning look.

“whatever. i’ll sleep on the floor or something.” he grumbles, yawning as he prepares to set his space on the ground.

you felt a little bad that you were the only one sleeping on a comfortable mattress, so the next words that came out of your mouth could arguably be the dumbest words that you’ve ever spoken before. you blamed it on the fact that you were tired and just wanted to head to bed peacefully.

“you know, there’s space for two people. it’s king sized.” you motion over to the large bed.

his eyes meet yours, and you could almost see gears turning in his head as he processes the offer.

“what?” was the only thing he said.

you swallow, moving one of the pillows in the dead center of the bed, creating a barrier for the two of you.

“you don’t get on my side, and i won’t get on yours. you don’t have to sleep on the floor, it’s not clean, anyway.”

his features twist into confusion, then disgust at the thought of sharing a bed with you, then… embarrassment?

before he could speak and make you regret your whole life any further, you decide to speak first.

“or- do whatever you want. i’m going to shower.”

you hurriedly grab your clean clothes and dash into the bathroom, locking the door behind you immediately.

what were you thinking? why did it matter to you whether he slept comfortably or not?

you’re probably just tired and in need of a hot shower, you think, stripping off your swimwear and hopping into the shower.

a relieved sigh leaves your lips, feeling the warm water splash against your skin as you bask in the feeling for a while.

after a while, you (begrudgingly) leave the warm water and dry yourself off, changing back into your shirt and pants.

upon exiting the bathroom, you notice megumi now leaning against the headboard of the bed lazily, one hand holding his phone as he scrolls through - god knows what.

his head shoots up when you walk out, clearing his throat as he stands up to take his shower.

“i’ll - sleep on the bed, too. the floor is too dirty, anyway.” he tells you gruffly, walking past you to the bathroom.

“oh, alright.”

when the bathroom door shuts, you flop onto the bed, hair still wet as your heart beats unusually fast from the thought of sharing a bed with your annoying rival.

deciding to dry your hair quickly before he comes out so you could pretend to be asleep when he gets in bed, you noticed the pillow barrier you placed earlier had been moved slightly towards his side, giving your side more space.

gulping heavily, you wondered if he had done that on purpose or if he had just unknowingly shifted it. and you wondered why your heart was beating even faster.

furiously shaking the weird thoughts away, you reached for the black hair dryer the hotel room provided to dry off your hair before he finished showering.

after a while, your hair was dry and you could hear the water in the bathroom come to a stop, signalling he was almost done.

you dive under the soft covers, body immediately relaxing into the clean, fluffy mattress. you have to admit it was a bit cold, as you were wearing shorts and the AC was on.

hearing the door click open, you instantly shut your eyes, pretending to be asleep to avoid awkward interaction with him.

heavy footsteps could be heard coming to a stop, you assuming he had noticed you were asleep.

a bag’s zipper, then the harsh blowing of the hair dryer for a few minutes, then finally the clicking of the lights turning off.

the bed’s weight sinked on the opposite side, feeling the covers lift for a moment before falling back down.

no knife could even make a dent in the thick tension currently in the room, awkward shuffling coming from his side of the bed followed by silence.

then more shuffling and kicking. you were beginning to get annoyed.

you flip over, seeing megumi now back in his regular clothing, the scent of the hotel shampoo strong in his hair. and he looked distressed. like always.

“what are you doing? stop kicking the blanket.”

he turns to meet your eyes, huffing as he looks away and lay back down onto his pillow.

“there’s...no space.”

you look over to his side, noticing that he was pretty much hanging off the bed with the amount of space he had. and then the amount of space between the both of you.

“i don’t have a disease, you know. you can move closer - just not too close.”

he seems to ponder your words for a moment, before shifting a centimeter closer to your side.

you sigh, deciding to let him do whatever he wanted, it’s not like you cared whether he fell off the bed in the middle of the night or not.

turning over once again to face the wall, you feel his legs brush up against yours for a second, sending goosebumps trickling down your own skin.

a few moments of peaceful silence passes, and you feel goosebumps litter your skin again. except this time it wasn’t from him touching you. you were freezing.

“hey… is there a way to turn the AC off? it’s k-kind of cold in here.”

you shiver, trying to pull the covers over you more, still feeling cold despite it being summer.

the male hums tiredly from beside you, looking around for a possible remote control to turn the AC down, but it was hard to see from his position on the bed, so he tosses the covers aside and gets up to look.

you watch as he walks around the room, opening drawers and checking in the large closet, but to no avail.

“check that drawer over there,” you motion to one wooden drawer he hadn’t checked yet, to which he opens and looks inside.

his eyes scan over the contents, lingering for a while as he searches.

“so… is it there?”

he almost jumps, like he was in deep thought and was suddenly interrupted, before shaking his head and shutting the drawer.

you sigh, disappointed as he crawls back into bed again, not sure if you could even fall asleep without shivering every two seconds.

megumi seems to move a little closer to your side, you notice, shrugging it off, thinking he finally realized he didn’t want to fall off the bed in his sleep.

“aren’t you cold?” you question him, eyeing one of his legs slung above the covers, and he was wearing shorts, too.

“no.”

“then give me the blanket.”

you try to tug it over more to your side, but he grabs it first and stops you. you tug on it again, and he tugs it back.

“you said you weren’t cold!”

“that doesn’t mean i don’t want it!”

you two begin to play tug of war with the blanket on the bed, trying to get it more on your own sides until one particularly hard tug on his side pulls you along towards him.

now, you two were mere inches apart from each other, and you could feel the heat radiating off his body from your close proximity. his light green eyes looking down towards your own, both of your breaths mingling together from panting from the constant tugging.

“w-we - there’s enough space for both, so-” he sputters out, letting go of the covers.

you let go as well, however now that both of you were completely under the blanket, your bodies were pretty much touching each other as well.

not that you minded as much - you were beginning to feel warmer due to his body heat and the full blanket. your cheeks were also oddly heating up quite a bit.

god did his body feel so warm against yours, you craved more of his heat, his warmth-

“what are you… doing?”

you opened your eyes, noticing that your head was now resting on his chest, his face red with his hands awkwardly in the air, unsure where to be placed. you had unknowingly moved closer to him while trying to be less cold, resulting in the extremely close position you two were now in.

“i-oh - sorry, i didn’t mean to-” you began to shift away, embarrassed and wanting to hide away and never come back out.

“wait-” he grabs your wrist suddenly, stopping you from moving away, the action shocking the both of you.

“i mean- you’re annoying, but it’s even more annoying if you keep complaining about being cold, so-” he clears his throat, trying to seem as unbothered as possible.

“so..?”

“- so you can move… closer.”

you gape for a moment, before nodding slowly and returning back to his body, head resting under his chin. you did feel way warmer in this position, and this way the two of you would be able to sleep faster, anyway.

surprisingly, you feel his arms unsurely wrap around your form, him letting out a relieved sigh when you don’t land a punch in his face for touching you.

his heartbeat in his chest sounds loudly against your ear, and you were sure that yours was just beating as fast in your own chest.

you never wished to leave this position, his arms wrapped snug around your waist, making you feel so secure and safe. beginning to feel yourself drift off to dreamland, you could feel the subtle touch of something against the top of your head, right before your eyes fluttered shut.

“..night.”

-- -- --

“ugh…”

cringing away from the sunlight flooding through the windows, you begin to stretch your arms from your place in the bed when-

“ow-”

your hand bumps against a hard object, turning quickly to see megumi’s face scrunched in pain, just above you.

his arms were still wrapped tightly around you and hair standing in all directions from just waking up. you stifled a laugh at his bed hair.

“what’s so funn-”

three knocks at the door almost made your soul jump out of your body, doing the same to the male beside you. you two hurriedly move away from each other, clearly it could be easily misunderstood if someone walked in and saw you two... together.

megumi drags himself to the door, answering it and almost falling backwards from three large figures shoving it open.

“morning megumi and y/n!” a familiar annoying voice calls out towards you, groaning when you see itadori, nobara and gojo enter your room.

“mmm, how’d you sleep last night? or… did you not get any sleep because you were too busy..?”

nobara smirks, flopping down onto the bed by your feet as you roll your eyes, not wanting to deal with her so early in the morning.

“did you sleep well last night, y/n?” gojo now stands beside you as well, winking from under his sunglasses.

you groan. “not you too.”

gojo laughs, the sound booming through the hotel room. “well, what do you say we grab breakfast downstairs together? i heard they have pretty high quality food here.”

itadori cheers, sitting down on the bed besides you, making you wonder how they were all this hyper in the morning.

“sure, i’m starving, actually. and- why is it so cold in here?” nobara shivers, looking around the room.

you sigh, motioning to the AC on the ceiling. “we couldn’t find the control to turn it off.”

“isn’t it right here?” gojo holds a small, white remote control in his hand, a wooden drawer opened besides him, indicating where he got it from.

wait-

“didn’t you say-”

you whip your head around to look at megumi, he had clearly checked that specific drawer you had asked him to yesterday, and said it wasn’t there.

he looks at you from across the room, shrugging before opening the door to the bathroom to prepare for the day. along with his last words before the door shut, you swore you saw the smallest hint of a smile tugging on his lips.

“guess i just didn’t look hard enough.”

Only | Tooru Oikawa

“okay,” you nod, laughter leaving your lips as you turn to your friend.

oikawa’s gaze shifts to you at your place around the small fire, “what’s up?”

“you know what i regret about my final year in high school?”

he quirks a brow, “what?”

“that i never got to fall in love.”

a beat of silence follows your words, the fireplace feeling as warm as ever as the two of you on the rooftop of your apartment building. despite summer approaching faster than ever, there was still a chill in the night air, one that made you pull the small blanket draped over your figure closer.

it’s your last week of school, and you and oikawa always had this tradition of sitting on the rooftop, turning on the small fireplace, and just talking. with your busy schedules, especially around the end of the school year, it grew hard for you to see each other. so during your first year, the two of you made a promise to return to the rooftop before your final week of school, to light the fireplace no one else in the apartment building seemed to use and to just talk.

but now it’s your last week ever of high school, the last time you and oikawa would venture up to this rooftop together.

there’s a sense of nostalgia to it, the idea that you might never come back up here with him, the thought that this fireplace would go back to normal and be completely untouched by the other residents in the building. it reminds you a bit too much of your past few years of high school, and what a ride they were.

the boy meets your eyes once more from his place on the adjacent couch, a blanket of his own wrapping his figure and a can of soda in his hand. “what do you mean?”

“it’s just,” you start, eyes flickering towards the calm flames in front of you, “there’s this idea of the perfect high school experience, the perfect boyfriend, the perfect prom date, and the perfect relationship,” you explain. “the two of you go to dinner every week and spend nights at each other’s houses and go on these perfect dates and share umbrellas when its raining.”

“you know that’s just in movies right?” oikawa cuts in.

“i know,” you nod with a small sigh, “most of high school is already romanticized as it is. but,” you pause. “i just wish i got to experience even the real life version of high school love.”

“it’s really nothing special,” oikawa shrugs, taking a sip from his soda can.

“what?” you tease. “your one girlfriend did that much of a number on you?”

“okay enough about her,” he waves off, rolling his eyes as he leans back into his chair. “you and iwa do nothing but tease me when it comes to her.”

“it’s kind of funny in my head,” you think. “you jumped into a relationship with her incredibly quick. you only knew her for what? a month?”

he nods wordlessly.

after all, he’s known you much longer.

“that’s not a lot,” you hum. “i always thought you were the type to approach love rather cautiously.”

oikawa quirks a brow at your words, “really?” you nod. “interesting,” he hums, “how so?”

“i don’t know,” you mumble. “you just seem like the type.”

“what?” he laughs, “you’re just basing this off of some kind of vibe you’re getting?”

“yeah, pretty much,” you mumble. “i mean you’ve got this ego that hides how you truly feel, i kind of assumed it would be the same towards love ya know? like walls hiding away your heart from the one person you truly wanted to give it to.”

and that leaves him at a loss for words.

“sorry,” you mumble, “hit a little too close to home?”

“what do you think?” he questions with an annoyed sigh, but you know there’s no malice behind his words. you knew him better than most, and that involved being quite familiar with the side of him he often hid from others.

“why’d you even date her anyway?” you hum, leaning back into the small chair, gaze still locked on the fire. “i mean you never really brought her up to iwaizumi and i until after you got together.”

“for the same reason why you have regrets,” he lies.

“because you wanted to experience high school love?” you question.

he nods, knowing that if he said anything you’d see right through him. you were the only person that truly could.

his ex’s confession just seemed to line up with when he got supposedly friendzoned by you. he still remembers what you said to iwaizumi that day. platonic soulmate, you called him, the words seemed to ring through his head to this day. he was your platonic soulmate.

but oikawa couldn’t understand why he couldn’t just be your soulmate.

after all, he’d done his best to give you all of the high school experience that you could ask for. you both hung out more often than not, you spent more nights at his house than you probably did at yours, he was your date for dances, even coming up with elaborate posters just to make you smile.

that word platonic just seemed to mock him, it’s a word he just wanted to get rid of it completely from your description of him. you only saw him as a friend, and nothing more. he hoped his ex could help him move on, yet all she did was make him feel worse.

“the worst part of it though was that she dumped me,” he sighs.

“all because of volleyball too,” you hum before looking at him. “i mean she had to have known that you’d spend more time playing volleyball,” you reason. “you’re literally team captain and the star player.”

he shakes his head, “definitely not the star player,” he rather honestly retorts.

“oh shut up, you literally are,” you ignore. “that reasoning though was just...odd.”

that reasoning was a lie.

oikawa told his ex about his feelings for you, and his apology signified the end of the relationship. because even after a couple months of being with someone else, even after a couple months of going on dates, bringing flowers, and loving someone else, he still couldn’t help but think about you. but there was no way he was going to tell you that. so he lied, he lied to the one person who could supposedly see through him.

except you had yet to do so when it came to this.

“it was,” he sighs. “but what can you do? the past is in the past.”

“and we have nothing but the future ahead of us,” you finish before meeting the boy’s gaze, “what about you? have any regrets?”

of course he does.

oikawa nods rather nonchalantly, “i do.”

“do share,” you hum. “but only if you want to of course.”

“i wish i went to nationals at least once,” he mumbles.

“i knew you’d say that,” you sigh. “do you regret going to school here?”

his eyes widen, “what? no, absolutely not,” he answers. “i love it here, it’s where iwa is, it’s where my team is.”

it’s where you are.

and the fact that he leaves that out is another regret he adds to his list.

“i see,” you hum. “it would’ve been nice to watch you guys play at nationals.”

he quirks a brow, “you’d go?”

“of course i would,” you nod. “i mean it’s a free trip to tokyo right?” you laugh.

and oikawa swears it’s music to his ears.

“any more regrets?” he asks you. “you gotta get it all out there before it’s too late right?”

“i have a few,” you hum.

and he hopes that one of them has something to do with him.

after all, he’s running out of time with you, and he still has a couple more things to say to you.

“i wish i asked that guy out myself my first year,” you list. “apparently he liked me back?”

“he did?” oikawa questions a bit louder than he’d like.

“he did,” you smile. “maybe he could’ve been my high school romance.” there’s a beat of silence before you continue. “i wish i didn’t spend all my time at home and went out more, i wish i didn’t ruin things with that one girl, i wish i actually spoke to my friend and fixed things instead of leaving him behind, i wish-”

there are tears in your eyes before you can even realize that you’re rambling, unpacking the baggage you had yet to deal with.

and oikawa’s watching you unravel before his eyes, each “i wish,” sending a chill of his own down his spine.

“i wish,” you sniffle. “i wish i got to see my uncle one more time before he died. i wish i didn’t start that fight with my friend. i wish i didn’t lose as many friends as i did,” you quickly wipe the tears in your eyes, watching oikawa’s face fall at the sight of your tears.

he’s rushing instantly to your side sitting down next to you, the pads of his fingers wipe away your tears. your head rests on his shoulder and his arm instantly goes to your back, pulling you a bit closer.

“i wish,” your voice is soft, it’s shakes and trembles and oikawa swears his heart shatters.

“i wish i told you i love you.”

and now there’s a knot in his stomach.

“i wish i told you sooner.”

it tightens.

and there’s a silence that lingers, one filled with your soft sniffles and the crackling of the fire next to you as oikawa rubs circles into your back. your head still rests on his shoulder, breath a bit more steady as your tears slowly stop, relief washing over you at the fact that you didn’t need to feel anymore regret towards that last item on your list.

you’ve been terrified of telling him for years, constantly watching him being adored by fangirls and wishing you could measure up. it’s quite pathetic, you think to yourself, that you did nothing but pine for him all these years yet still wish for that high school romance.

if you said something, it could’ve happened.

and that realization only adds salt to the wound.

oikawa’s voice is soft when it breaks the silence.

“you wanna know what i regret?”

your voice is barely above a whisper, “what?”

“i wish i told you that i love you too.”

and his words instantly get your attention.

you pull yourself off his shoulder, “you do?”

“it’s my biggest regret,” he nods, a soft smile on his lips. “although, i don’t think we need to regret it too much now.”

“we have one week left,” you mumble.

“that’s more than enough time for us,” he answers, the distance between you both slowly decreasing. “one week to have your high school romance.”

and a small laugh from you follows his words as oikawa closes the gap, his lips finally meeting yours. the sounds of the crackling fire and your racing heartbeat rang through your ears as you cupped oikawa’s cheek, not missing how he leaned in impossibly closer to you. there’s a laugh that leaves his lips as you two pull away, resting your forehead against yours, feeling as if you’re on cloud nine.

it’s euphoric.

he’s euphoric.

your head rests on his shoulder, “now how long have we been regretting this?” you tease.

“longer than you’ll ever know,” he answers. “but it’s okay, now we’re just making up for lost time.”

it’s your last week of high school, the last time you and oikawa would ever be on this roof together following the tradition you’ve kept for the past three years. but this time, as you looked into the fire once more with his arm over your shoulder, there’s no regret in your system. no “i wish” or “what ifs” clouding your mind. instead, there’s hope, hope now that your feelings are finally out there, hope because he feels the same way as you.

hope that this would be the love you always wanted.

WHO LOVES WHO ??? (1.5k)

— fushiguro megumi x reader

synopsis: don’t trust your thoughts after 10pm because now you’re convinced he doesn’t love you back

warnings: super fluffy, aged up, mentions of sex, megumi wees (in a toilet not sexually chill LOL), erm self insert… maybe ?

a/n: my first time writing megumi and if it’s ooc i don’t care lol i love the guy. inspired off that one girlfriends scene with joan n her boyf i’ve been watching a lot of girlfriends :)

WHO LOVES WHO ??? (1.5k)

fushiguro megumi doesn’t love you.

this is the conclusion you have come to, sitting fully clothed on the edge of your bath with your head in your hands.

after being together for three months, the words have yet to be uttered past his lips. aside from all the… more than friendly activities you’ve been doing; the sweet sex where he stuffs his head into your neck to hide his pitiful groans, how he softly kisses your ankle whilst gazing down into your eyes before he starts between your legs and the way he always crawls into your chest after he cleans you up… you’re not sure there’s been anything else to show he loves you back.

yes, you are in love with fushiguro megumi.

rubbing your fists against your tired eyes, you honestly found it hard to think of all the reasons why you didn’t love the man. the way with one scan over your body, he knows what you’re thinking or what you want. often disappearing in a room full of people to appear by your side to hand you a drink or sliding into a seat beside you to patiently help you with your assignments. his calculating intelligence, how he seemed to know everything or if he didn’t, after a minute he’d have worked it all out. able to explain something to you easily and only you… often ignoring if anybody else wanted help because he always had a second sense to if someone had bad intentions.

you love fushiguro megumi because he makes you feel like a good person. which you guess is an odd thing to say, but it’s true. you’ve often thought you weren’t always the nicest, occasionally impatient, sometimes stubborn. and although those traits are still in you, megumi makes you accept yourself. you know it’s due to the fact he’s seen the worst in people, met others that murder and lie to get what they want so relative to him you’re close to a goddess. the way he listens when you ramble about something petty, rant about somebody that’s been pissing you off, through your most annoying moments, megumi makes you feel loveable.

your thoughts slam to a halt as the man himself strolls into your bathroom. scratching at his dark locks and opening his mouth in a massive yawn. his top half is bare, a few scars from his work as a sorcerer littered about whilst his other half is in a pair of plaid navy pyjama bottoms. he eyes you, still fully clothed on the edge of the bath, for about three seconds. pretty thick eyelashes batting against his cheeks as he ponders over the reasons you’re sitting there. but it’s also four am and he doesn’t work well this early.

you try to give him a tiny smile, to not look as suspicious as you feel when he asks, “why’re you sitting there?”

coated in sleep and a little grunt, he then pads over to the toilet and pulls down his pyjama bottoms far enough to take his dick out. you don’t have time to admire his cute pale ass because fushiguro megumi is acting so very out of character.

“‘gumi!” you cover your eyes and face away from him, the tinkle against the porcelain sounding in the room. “don’t piss in-front of me!”

you try to rationalise it’s probably because he’s half asleep right now and honestly, it’s nothing you’ve never seen before. but since when have you both got to the point of being so bare with each other?

“hmm?” he mumbles, feeling his body lighten at the action. why are you so loud at four in the morning? “babe, when two people are in love, this isn’t a big deal.”

babe. two people. wait… love?

the strangest most strangled sound leaves your throat, as you whip your head to the back of the man you loved.

“megumi, what? who loves who?”

you just needed to be sure. he could be sleepwalking right now for all you know.

but he also definitely wasn’t with how he turned his head to stare you down like you just offended him. “i love you and you love me? why are you looking like that?”

then he turns back around to finish his business, about to do the classic shake before you ram yourself into his back, wrapping your arms around his waist and squeezing tightly. he places a hand flat on the wall before him to steady both of your bodies so he doesn’t go falling into the toilet.

“wait, let me clean up. we can cuddle in bed.”

but he’s not saying anything you care about, “‘gumi, you love me? since when?!” you squeal.

he scoffs, sleepy half-lidded eyes as he shakes and tucks himself back into his bottoms. “erm… since i met you? the first time we kissed? forever? why are you so shocked?”

he awkwardly shuffles to your bathroom sink, you still clinging to his back like a koala with a massive smile on your face like you’ve just won the lottery. it feels like you have.

you peep behind his back at the mirror before you both. megumi pumps soap onto his hands, lathering his slender fingers with the stuff and then hovering his hands under the tap to wash it off. you ignored all of that, staring at your lover's reflection as you feel your heart physically swell.

fushiguro megumi loves you back.

between that all, he glances up at you again, your cheeks high and your eyes bright like you just took a ginger shot, hyped up and ready to run a marathon.

“don’t you love me back?” the dark-haired man asks you, so quiet and tender you almost cooed aloud.

“of course i love you, i was just sitting there thinking you didn’t love me! you’ve never told me you have!”

megumi frowns, lips slightly pouted and staring at you through the mirror. his voice is a dull unimpressed monotone, “i don’t remember you ever telling me.”

now it’s your turn to pout, squeezing your arms around him in defiance but he doesn’t mind your touch. you’re making him all warm and toasty.

“well, i didn’t want to be the one to say it and be rejected. but if you said it i would have said it back.”

“babe,” he blanks and his face is telling you that you’re being silly but the impatient, almost rough rasp of the babe has you almost buckling your knees. “imagine i said it and you rejected me. i would have laid flat on the train tracks.”

“‘gumi!” you slap his arm playfully, kissing his bare bicep as his eyes twinkle at your laugh.

quickly he dries his hands on a random towel before spinning around to face you, his hands finding home on your waist.

and as fushiguro megumi stares down at you with his shiny albeit lethargic denim blue eyes, your smile grow bigger. so big he wasn’t aware a face could mimic the sun that had yet to rise outside. he should have been telling you he loves you daily if this is what he gets. a tiny chuckle breathes past his lips, your finger tracing up his spine making him feel a little drowsy.

“i love you. should’ve told you before,” megumi whispers almost apologetic, tipping your chin up to press a soft kiss to your lips. you can’t help but smile into that too with a pleasant hum and soon enough megumi is smiling too. a tiny one with makes your teeth clink together.

once you peck his cheek on your tiptoes, you wrap your arms around his neck. then his palms reach down to tap your ass, a signal to jump. as you do, your legs lock around his bare waist, “i love you too, ‘gumi. love when you call me babe too.”

the sight of the man still sleepy, muscles tensed to hold you up, you almost sigh lovingly. “really?” he mumbles, walking back into your bedroom and laying you down on your bed. “how about baby?” a kiss on your cheek. “honey?” you giggle as another lands on your jaw, “how about princess?” you’re now fully squealing at the tickle of his lips, especially as megumi, controlled by sleep lays all his body weight on top of you, only resting on his forearms to lay his attacks on you.

“yes, ‘gumi! yes!” and you feel the rumble of megumi’s laugh through his chest into yours. you throw the quilt over you both, now safe and warm with love.

once you both quiet down, megumi shuffles to get comfortable, tucking his head in the crook of your neck to go to sleep.

“love you ‘gumi.”

“love you too babe.”
