This isn’t how statistical methodology works.

If you want to be able to generalize the results of your survey to the general population, you have to use some form of random sampling*, you can’t just ask random people on the internet. Twitter polls (etc.) have two main flaws:

1. Response is voluntary, which means that people who don’t care are less likely to answer, and (on questions where this is applicable) people with more middle-of-the-road or less-shocking answers are less likely to answer.

2. They operate using “convenience sampling,” which is basically what it sounds like and tends to bias the results in favor of whatever opinion is held by the people in the group likely to notice the survey. A political survey on the Fox News website will tend to have more conservative responses than the general population; a sports survey on the Boston Globe website will tend to have more pro-Red Sox responses than the general population; a survey on a Twitter page will tend to have more whatever-the-twitter-users-followers think responses than the general population.

(I did a brief Google search to see if this has been surveyed reliably and didn’t find anything, although possibly I could find something in an academic database. If anyone can find a reliable survey, I would be interested in seeing what the results.)

*This is somewhat complicated by the fact that it is nearly impossible to do a perfectly random sample. Phone surveys in which callers are randomly chosen and the response rate is high are generally close enough in surveys of Americans, although they aren’t perfect.

This Is So Interesting To Me. 65% Of People Would Rather Experience Rape Than Be Falsely Accused Of Rape.

As a history student, the most ridiculous thing that tumblr social justice warriors ever made up is “cultural appropriation”. If you only had mild historical knowledge of any cultural exchange that took place before colonialism (the ultimate times of evil oppression besides the third Reich) you’d realize that what you consider your culture is probably just a mashup out of thousands ancient cultural aspects from many different cultures. “Culture” itself is an umbrella term for basically anything that might be associated with a certain group of people - and it is both fluid and highly subjective. Your political system has been culturally appropriated from somewhere once, and so has your educational system, your economical system, your religion and your language. If you want to get mad about cultural appropriation, how about you start with those monumental cultural appropriations before complaining about white girls wearing dreads?

I’m fairly certain that Bernie has never tried to kill Hillary. Then again, my Latin teacher said that our only primary source for Cateline’s actions is Cicero’s speeches, which are not exactly going to be the most trustworthy in this scenario.

It wouldn’t be a very big difference, but it would be a difference.

Attacking someone for not dating you is saying that it is your right to control their actions.

Attacking someone you are dating depends on the circumstance. From the list above, it seems like the biggest reason is infidelity, which is saying that your right to faithfulness is greater than someone’s right to life. It’s also more centered around forcing someone into not doing something than forcing someone into doing something.

Attacking your ex again depends on the circumstances. Infidelity would be basically the same, but attacking someone for breaking up with you is probably more like the first case.

There’s also the fact that there tends to be a greater connection between partners than between one person asking the other out.

Again, these things are similar, and I’m not saying they’re not. I’m just saying that there is a distinction, though the distinction is not the most important part of this post.

Well, actually, according to a 2015 survey by the Pew Research center, in America, 45% of Muslims say that “homosexuality should be accepted by society,” about the same as Protestants (48%) and more than specifically Evangelical Protestants (36%), Mormons (36%), and Jehovah’s Witnesses (16%).

Additionally, looking specifically at support for same-sex marriage being legalized, 42% of Muslims support this, roughly the same amount as Christians overall (44%) and more than Protestants (39%, with specifically Evangelical Protestants having a support rate of 28%), Mormons (26%), and Jehovah’s Witnesses (14%).

Now, obviously there were other religious groups in the survey, and some of them were more accepting of the LGBT+ community than Muslims, on average. But given the number of groups than which Muslims were more accepting, singling out Muslims specifically is ... factually dubious at best.

No one knew who the tabby belonged to, though they presumed Mrs Figg as the cat had been seen to enter her house. However, it also seemed rather fond of number four’s back garden and the green eyed boy with whom it played most Sunday afternoons when the Dursleys went out. Of course McGonagall would never admit she had a fondness for playing with Harry when she was supposed to be keeping an eye on him.
