Half-finished thing

too frustrated to care about undoing your start
wordlessly, i put it back together
you watched my fingers move. unsteady. clumsy.
i knew you could do it better
but at least it would be funny
you giggled. said it looked like a butt.

One time a friend told me that if she wanted to have a chill night she would come to me and ask for tea and a book to read. I didn’t like tea at the time, but I always made sure my cupboards had them in case she needed a quiet night. One time I told my boss that I loved oranges, but couldn’t peel them because of my nails. For a year he made sure to peel me one at least once a week. Once my friends gave me a made up superlative of “most likely to have a pen they could borrow” and ever since I’ve made sure I always carry a pen with me. A long time ago, my high school librarian told me that no one would care what my grade in my sophomore chemistry class was if I’m bringing them doughnuts and asking them about their day.
Sure I could try the shoelaces thing, or I could just advertise I'm on tumblr on my water bottle.

From the weird to the wonderful, these dinosaurs are here to indicate that just because they were found recently, doesn't mean that they aren't destined to become icons like the names we already know and love. Get ready to learn about some new paleontological excitement - and debate angrily over which ones are better ;)

To piss or not to piss?
Your bladder reminds you to pick quickly and you dash down the tunnel smelling like your dad's musty spoon collection.
You notice after what seems like an agonizing minute of waddling through the tunnel that the tunnel never seems to get lighter. You keep your hand to the wall to guide you through the straight tunnel, the walls getting rougher with each passing second.
Eventually you find a line of light illuminating the ground, indicating a door frame, and you open it.
It opens up to a circular laboratory with gutted machinery, glowing tanks with strange shapes, and naked wires littering tables and floor.
In the middle of it, you find a toilet. Inside a a wire cage. Upon closer inspection, you see that it is a human sized snare trap.
Pick what happens:
You walk into a bar after your long day at work herding cats across the great concrete plains of New Wark.
After 3 long hours of downing marmalade milk, you decide you need to head to the washroom to make room for more.
You walk down the corridor that the washroom sign points to, only to find it split into two tunnels.
One of them smells like your dad's old college duffelbag that he kept his spoon collection in, and the other one smells like Kraft Mac n cheese with a hint of oyster sauce.

This is actually really cool! This seems like actually one of the cool things that AI can help with. In comparison, last thing I heard about coding enzymes, they were reliant on gamers and puzzle thinkers to play a video game where they were the ones to try and figure out the best amino code that'll make a working protein (god bless those gamers and thinkers)
In laboratory tests, some of these enzymes worked as well as those found in nature, even when their artificially generated amino acid sequences diverged significantly from any known natural protein.
The experiment demonstrates that natural language processing, although it was developed to read and write language text, can learn at least some of the underlying principles of biology. Salesforce Research developed the AI program, called ProGen, which uses next-token prediction to assemble amino acid sequences into artificial proteins.
Scientists said the new technology could become more powerful than directed evolution, the Nobel-prize winning protein design technology, and it will energize the 50-year-old field of protein engineering by speeding the development of new proteins that can be used for almost anything from therapeutics to degrading plastic.
“The artificial designs perform much better than designs that were inspired by the evolutionary process,” said James Fraser, Ph.D., professor of bioengineering and therapeutic sciences at the UCSF School of Pharmacy, and an author of the work, which was published Jan. 26, in Nature Biotechnology. A previous version of the paper has been available on the preprint server BiorXiv since July of 2021, where it garnered several dozen citations before being published in a peer-reviewed journal.

use & for friendships, colleagues, familial relationships and use / for romantic or sexual relationships (or encounters)
not everyone reads fic. Lots of people use screen readers, and screen readers can’t see what’s on images. use descriptive text to help them out.
lots of people download fic to read on other devices, not all downloads capture images too.
there’s a big difference between No Archive Warnings Apply (NAWA) and Author Chose Not to Use Archive Warnings (CNTW). NAWA means that there’s nothing in the fic that needs to be warned for using the official Archive Warning system. CNTW means there might be something that requires a warning and the author is either avoiding giving out spoilers or they are unsure how to interpret their plot point with respect to the official Warnings. (in both cases, additional tags are where it’s at - you can explain yourself there)
the reason why the number of bookmarks in the fic is different from the number of bookmarks on your stats page is because your stats page number includes bookmarks that are hidden
there’s a preference setting where you can receive emails with your own comments/replies.
there’s a site skin that hides stats so you don’t have to see them
writing in rich text format makes my life easier
knowing html allows me to do fun things in the comments section like comment/reply with reaction gifs
knowing html also allows me to do interesting formatting in my fics that I can’t do with rich text alone

if you write your fic in the draft window, you might end up losing it so make sure you copy the text before you hit Post, just in case
they aren’t kidding when they say drafts are deleted after 30 days
