so hopefully what we all learn from JK Rowling starting to go after asexual people is that when we bully or exclude queer people in our own communities we make this discourse popular enough for it to eventually spread to homophobes, right?

This is not the first time I've heard people outside the community parroting Ace Discourse talking points either. One of my sister's friend's parents believed that it was a form of social contagion when her son came out as asexual. She said very similar things to people online that I've seen. My mom had to talk her down and discuss it with her, but yeah.

Ace Discourse breached containment a few years ago. They have some of these talking points because of acephobes on this website starting discourse and invalidating peoples' asexuality. When a transphobe as notorious as her starts parroting these points, please know that you fucked up.

When you make fun of poly people or people with neopronouns you're making it more likely for homophobes and transphobes outside our community to spread hate and violence against small, vulnerable communities. I don't care if you think it's cringe or a phase or whatever, don't give homophobes ammo and stand with other queer people, even ones you don't understand/don't like/don't agree with.

Punctuating Dialogue

As of the time of this post, AO3 has been scraped by yet another shady individual looking to make a quick buck off the backs of hardworking hobby writers. This Reddit post here has all the details and the most current information. In short, if your fic URL ends in a number between 1 and 63,200,000 (inclusive), AND is not archive locked, your fic has been scraped and added to this database.

I have been trying to hold off on archive locking my fics for as long as possible, and I've managed to get by unscathed up to now. Unfortunately, my luck has run out and I am archive locking all of my current and future stories. I'm sorry to my lovelies who read and comment without an account; I love you all. But I have to do what is best for me and my work. Thank you for your understanding.

Fanfic is a free hobby.

It's one of the last few things we can have as a society that's free. You can engage, for free. People give you things (art, stories, etc), for free.

Don't buy into the consummerism just because it's everywhere else.

You don't have to consume everything you interact with. You don't have to use things, just because they exist.

You're allowed (still, for now), to have things that are enjoyable for free.

Do you realise how insane the world is? We don't have many places where we can just be, for free anymore, but ao3 is. Did you notice we don't have ads in ao3? We don't have pop ups? Where ELSE do we not have that?

Where else can you just go and not have to wait for a commercial to be over or for ads to be on the sidelines?

I don't think the younger people understand, but the whole of internet used to be like this. YouTubers would do Youtube for free, just because. You couldn't monetise your internet presence before.

Ao3 is like a little preserved corner of the internet where the old internet used to be, and it's being attacked by people who do not understand that free things are allowed to exist without judgment.

Please don't ruin this for us.
