A Les Mis meme saying "girls when", with the second part of it edited so that it says "girls when ' It was Ɖponine. (...) Javert gazed askance at this body, and, profoundly calm, said in a low tone: ā€œIt strikes me that I know that girl.ā€

The image depicts poorly drawn stick figures violently biting each other, in pools of blood. They look feral
A poorly drawn meme of a person standing in a corner at a party while other people are dancing. The text says 'they don't know Javert and Eponine 'trade deaths.' Eponine constantly talks about drowning herself in the Seine but is shot at the barricades, while Javert plans to be shot at the barricades but eventually drowns himself in the Seine
Pepe Silvia meme of a man standing in front of a conspiracy board gesturing wildly. There are two quotes from Les Mis on the board. The first is "Eponine said: I’m not the daughter of a dog, since I’m the daughter of a wolf. (….)If you approach, I’ll bark. I told you, I’m the dog."

The second quote is " in every litter of wolves there is one dog, which is killed by the mother because, otherwise, as he grew up, he would devour the other little ones. Give to this dog-son of a wolf a human face, and the result will be Javert."
Seinfeld meme. In panel one Jerry asks 'you're crying from Javert and Eponine?" In panel 2 George responds: Eponine is the ā€œshadowā€ of Cosette in the way that Javert is the ā€œshadowā€ of Jean Valjean. Eponine’s trauma parallels Javert’s, the way that Cosette’s trauma parallels Jean Valjean’s. Eponine is (like Javert) the child of criminals who turns against her parents to defend bourgeois society, the way Cosette (like Valjean) lived in dire poverty and was a ā€˜prisoner’ threatened with a whip.

But being a cop has made Javert unable to care about people from his class-- so Eponine is never a child he can help, she’s just a criminal he can punish. Javert fails to save ā€œhis Cosette....ā€ because he never even tried.

He sees Eponine’s corpse at the barricade and recognizes her-- he’s one of the few people in the novel who ever recognizes her!-- but he feels nothing.

Feeling normal about Javert and Eponine today

one more thing about modern aus is that they'll go on about enjolras giving these long inspiring speeches for the majority of the vague meetings about the undefined cause which is so. in the books he is not on the stage preaching to everyone during most of the pre-barricade scenes. like its kind of made a point that he is either having actual conversations or just listening to what everyone else is saying. like yes he does give orders and instructions that he'll pre-face with a little speech but like. normally he's listening to others opinions before giving his own two cents. i think sometimes people just see the word leader and they can't imagine a version of that that isn't someone else forcing their thoughts and will onto a group of people.

I absolutely love how Marguerite, in Chauvelin’s eyes, is a symbol of wisdom and freedom in the musical.

He wants her. He objectifies her not as a woman, but like a national treasure. He is possessive of what was once her ideals. He wants her to be like him. He wants her to become a martyr. He wants to eternalize her into a symbol of their new society.

I believe this is also what the 1982 film tried to portray (the musical is directly inspired by this film adaptation).

They got rid of Marguerite’s agency over her own sins and completely antagonized Chauvelin in order to put an emphasis on this form of objectification.

As the story nears its end, Chauvelin loses all interest in Marguerite, upholding his own ideals above his yearning for her. He was to make an example out of her. Instead of a symbol of the revolution, he would turn her into a national traitor, a symbol of evil, everything that goes against his idea of ā€œdemocracyā€.
