Looky looky @coppermarigolds! Now that’s interesting: Bataar Jr. isn’t sitting with his family in the gallery. I wonder if he’s been scheduled for a later hearing, or if Suyin has...“arranged” matters so that he’ll be serving a lifetime sentence in “exile” in Zaofu in exchange for not facing trial. Both theories are plausible, given what we have seen of Suyin’s character. Hmm, Kuvira still believes that her cause was a just one, still considers the other powers hypocrites for their attitudes towards her and the former Earth Kingdom (which they are), the divide between her and Suyin (a divide, ironically, for which Suyin herself still refuses to take responsibility)...it’s still early to tell, but it looks like this comic is bringing us some of the issues that weren’t handled that well in Book 4 and which the Kuvira fandom has discussed extensively. It’s still too early to tell, but at the moment there’s reason to be optimistic for this comic.

The Legend of Korra: Ruins of the Empire Part One PREVIEW PAGES!

After the new Korra graphic novel trilogy was unveiled yesterday, today we have our first preview pages courtesy of Entertainment Weekly!

And they. Look. Amazing.

The new artist, Michelle Wong, has done a STUNNING job bringing the Avatar universe to life.

Equally as exciting is that it appears the story is full steam ahead, picking up directly where the tumultuous Earth Kingdom plot of Book Three: Change and Book Four: Balance left off. Kuvira is on trial for her crimes as leader of the now-defunct Earth Empire, and she’s not backing down.

In these pages, she also has a quick reunion with her sometimes-foster-mother Suyin Beifong.

It’ll be really interesting to see where these plot threads go, especially considering the intriguing points mentioned in the official description for Part One:

Korra must decide who to trust as the fate of the Earth Kingdom hangs in the balance!

On the eve of its first elections, the Earth Kingdom finds its future endangered by its past. Even as Kuvira stands trial for her crimes, vestiges of her imperial ambitions threaten to undermine the nation’s democratic hopes. But when Korra, Asami, Mako, and Bolin don’t all see eye-to-eye as to the solution, drastic measures will be taken to halt a new march to war!

All in all, these pages just look beautiful– the art style, on-model characters and facial expressions, and detailed backgrounds, in tandem with a plotline directly continuing from the series, really make it feel like we’re back in the show again. Can not WAIT to get a whole trilogy of this.

Ruins of the Empire Part One is coming May 21st, 2019.

Something to keep in mind when watching ENT is that Archer is a contemporary of all those starship captains from the late 22nd and early 23rd century that got their crews killed or committed horrendous Prime Directive violations that Kirk and Picard had to clean up a century or two later. Hell, Archer’s probably the one who gave the Iotians that gangster book.

Captain Archer’s smugness is so annoying. Especially because he is so wrong. They go down to the planet and all get high and paranoid off some chemicals in the air, and Trip tries to kill T’Pol.. You know, chemicals that they might have detected with a probe, but fuck caution you know

Oh my god @wyattsalazar, I was just bouncing through deviantArt and I found this amazing piece by glucosefiction. I don’t know if you commissioned this or it was just fanart but I had to show it to you. Consider it a belated birthday present of a kind. ;)

There’s something deeply distressing to me about how there’s been this steady push over the past twenty years to transform all forms of media from things you can physically buy and use as you see fit into things you essentially rent in perpetuity from publishers and hosting services. It’s like there’s this assumption that we can rent these things forever and never have to worry about the Internet ever going down or one of these digital landlords deciding to take them away from us whenever they want. Movies and PC games are my beat, but I've certainly had to stockpile a number of hard copies over the years due to rights issues or lack of interest keeping them out of the digital marketplace.

“Digital is about access, it’s about sharing,” Schwartz said. “But once you digitize something, suddenly the object is not human-readable anymore—not readable like a stack of letters in your attic. With digital you have to preserve the letter, and you have to preserve the software, and the machine that can read it.”

That means that as technology evolves, the types of data it can read evolves as well. Think about the floppy discs you almost definitely have in a box somewhere—or DVDs, to pick a more recent example. My current laptop doesn’t have a CD/DVD drive at all. I couldn’t watch my Mona Lisa Smile DVD if I wanted to. So you can see how delicate that media is.

Thinking a lot about this since Apple announced the demise of iTunes. One great thing about iTunes was the convenience of digital while still owning a physical library. I spent a good chunk of the 90s building a music collection. It defined me, which was the things worked then. It’s no coincidence that the transition from aesthetic to moral signal occurred alongside the transition from owning a physical to a virtual library. If the things we own can’t define us, then what does? When I was twelve or thirteen, I would have killed for something like Spotify where all the music I could ever dream of was at my fingertips, but there’s no hunt, no sense of personal value.

You’re not an awful person, Madiha. You’re passionate about what you believe in and you stick to your principles, but you’re always willing to be open-minded, which is so hard to do in this day and age. That doesn’t sound like a bad person to me. I am probably the last person who should be an amateur counselor, but remember: those negative thoughts you have are not. true. They are years of insecurity and fear twisted by depression into a cudgel that give you a false view of reality and convince you that you deserve to be unhappy. Nothing they say is true.

We do not think that way about you.

You deserve to be happy. You will be happy. Whenever those thoughts start to roll in, remember that they are do not reflect reality and they are lying to you. Hold on to that. (This is really weird for me to write, but it tears me up to see you burdened with so much and know there’s almost nothing I can do about it.)

im really afraid im just a like, completely awful person but just utterly deluded in my own goodness that i dont see why everyone hates me

At first I was kinda confused as to why no-one said anything about Jonathan’s eye situation but then I realized that people know him as the night shift doctor…

I’ve been playing Vampyr lately and despite it’s flaws I think it’s a good game. I’m currently on chapter four, so, about half-way there! Also, I just noticed that I misspelled Pippa’s name, but oh well, I’m too lazy to fix it.

Ah, but you see:

1. Any man can go out and buy one cake and spend something like US$12 on a cake, but it takes a man of true genius and cunning to steal US$480 worth of cake and not even get a police reprimand.

2. For Lex, it’s not enough that he has forty cakes. EVERYONE ELSE MUST HAVE ZERO CAKES!!!

And That’s Terrible!

And That’s Terrible!

Woof. I played my first game of Frostpunk this weekend, and I discovered I have no problems with founding a pseudoreligious cult of personality around myself to inspire a city of exiled 19th-century Londoners to keep working through a -150°C (-238°F) superblizzard. It’s not quite the same, I’ll admit, but I feel for ya.

Me @ The Last Of Us: Okay game, I’ve never met a Troy Baker-voiced character I actually liked. Ball’s in your court.

TLOS: challenge accepted
