i wanted to share some thoughts on ‘온유하게 해요 (shine on you)’. everybody is already aware of the title pun by now, but there’s another meaning on it that rly impacts me & i want to say.

so as many know, onew (온유) is an actual word in korean. i wouldnt give 온유 an exact translation but it’s along the meaning of softness, tenderness, or mildness. i’ll use ‘tender’ here.

so, onew’s name is in both titles. ‘온유하게 해요’ means ‘to make (smth) tender/onew’ & in ‘shine on you’, ‘on you’ sounds like ‘onew’ too. that’s cute, but what i want to focus on is the verse where this sentence appears:

‘싱그러운 미소가 불안했던 마음을 온유하게 해요’.

my personal trans goes: ‘your refreshing smile makes my (previously) troubled heart tender’. note that ‘-했던’ implies past onto ‘troubled’.

now, what makes this verse so lovely to me is exactly bc 온유 is his name. he is 온유. then saying ‘your smile makes me tender’ ends up meaning ‘your smile makes me who i am’. and more than that: ‘your smile makes my troubled heart tender’ seems to paint that ‘seeing your smile makes me remember who i really am’.

isn’t that such a beautiful love to have? to remember yourself in someone’s smile, to find strength in them to never stop being own tender self through all the troubles that come. it’s incredibly romantic.

and if you think about it, this verse is so precious bc it comes such a long way: if jinki wasn’t named onew all the way back 10 yrs ago, this sentence wouldn’t mean much today. it’s a verse with a simple sound, but its meaning came together in a careful & rare balance.

it’s this sort of thing that adds all the magic in art.

SHINee’s Key Confirmed To Make Solo Debut

Key is making his solo debut!

On October 11, industry representatives reported that the SHINee member is in the final stages of preparation for his solo debut.

In response, his agency SM Entertainment confirmed, “Key is preparing a solo album aimed for November.”

The release will be Key’s first solo album since his debut with SHINee in 2008.

for those wondering how they can continue to support jonghyun (because, yes, he can still be supported): hype poet | artist. recommend the album whenever you can and, if someone has the money to spare, encourage them to buy the album physically. not only will the money go to a good cause but every copy that is purchased will raise the chances of jonghyun winning awards for the album at year end music shows. awards only mean so much in the grand scheme of things but considering that it’s our last chance to ever get him one, and also a chance to get his family an award to take home in his name, it’s important that we try our hardest not only to make it happen but to make it our priority when awards roll around.

the album was released very early during the year and it’s already seemed to be glossed over by releases that have followed it so a little boost every now and again doesn’t hurt! let’s continue to share his art with the world as much as we can!

hello. this is shinee’s key. thanks to the many people who worried over us. i am pulling myself together again and strive to go back to our usual routine. there are moments when suddenly remembering traces of jonghyun-hyung’s memories cause my tears to flow, and there are times when my chest hurts, but i work hard in sucessfully getting over while thinking of the times i’ve spent with jonghyun-hyung. i know that everyone supports shinee’s unchanging activities. even though, again, i have a lot of worries i thought that i shouldn’t give up everything and just wait for my heart to regain peace. in the midst of a lot of people worried for us we decided to go through with the planned concerts in japan. this decision would be what jonghyun-hyung would want us to have (done). to keep our promise to all our fans we’ll show a good performance. i think that is the most shinee thing to do. this year, we shinee will be celebrating our tenth year anniversary. we are very grateful for your constant support and encouragement and, in return, we’ll give you a stage as shinee is supposed to have. i love you. thank you. hello. this is shinee’s minho. in regards to the status of shinee’s japan concert i wanted to share news in a calmer state, after long consideration and discussions with each other. while i’m writing this i’m having many feelings and thoughts and wishes but i hope that my message is able to be conveyed (through this letter). there are many people who are open to the idea of us returning, and others against the idea, but we actually don’t know what is the correct way to handle things in this moment. however, we think that this is our best decision to continue our promise to (jonghyun). the memories we have been able to share between our members, staff and fans have been so precious and they are some of the happiest moments that i don’t think can be replaced. jonghyun’s space is also something that can’t be replaced. there are many worries regarding whether we will be able to stand on stage as a group again, but i will prepare the fullest so my heart is shown in the near future. jonghyun hyung and the rest of us promised: when we were tired and wanted to quit, and when we wanted to run away since we were too weak, we will remember that (the fans) were our biggest strength and, because of this, we will continue to keep singing. let us all overcome this battle together. during our time together this cold winter please continue to share your warm support with shinee and jonghyun hyung. .
