I'm going to *remembers suicide is often not a desire for death itself but rather an attempt to radically change one's life because the current state of being has become unbearable but the person can't think of any way to change it other than death* kill myself
Sasuke Uchiha + Assorted Text Posts (Part 8)
I will never get over the fact that Minato had to have been fifteen when he became Kakashi's jonin sensei. Not only did these utter brainiacs let a five year old become a soldier, they then TRUSTED ANOTHER CHILD TO SHOW HIM THE ROPES.
Why aren't there more fics about what a batshit arrangement this was.
Why do some of y’all only credit Itachi with the positive aspects of Sasuke’s development. If you’re going to credit him for his contributions towards Sasuke then you should probably include the bad things too.
Yeah, he made Sasuke physically stronger. He also tortured him, broke his mind, told him to kill his best friend, let him go to a creepy snake man who wanted to take his body, forced him back into the cycle of hate when he was finally doing better, made him go catatonic from the mental trauma he inflicted on him, physically beat him, killed his entire family, told him the reason he left him alive was because he was so weak that it wasn’t even worth it, groomed him into being the most hateful creature alive, was planning on taking away his free will, etc.
Let’s not pick and choose.
Oh wait, I forgot that Itachi loved him so none of that matters. All the trauma just poofs away and the only reason Sasuke is still fucked up is because of [insert curse of hatred or filler bs] or because he’s just a whiny, ungrateful brat.
ah if you’re still answering the ask meme would mind doing either itachi or kakashi? sorry I couldn’t pick so your choice!
Absolutely! Thank you for the ask!
(I’ll admit, I closed my eyes and stabbed my finger at the screen ‘cause I couldn’t pick either and I was lazy to do both XD)
Ended up choosing - Itachi Uchiha! Enjoy ^^
First impression:
A psychopath, an utter and complete nutjob, and an A-grade dickwad. I absolutely despised this guy down to the core; not only did he ruin Sasuke’s life, but he’s still out there ruining other people’s lives for no good reason. I hate characters who have no damn motives except to fuck up shit, and let’s be real, that’s what Itachi seemed like at first. Plus, if he was supposed to be ‘hot’… they didn’t exactly score there. He just looks really tired! I mean, damn, force this boy to take a nap before you let him go be a terrorist!
Impression now:
Mixed. As. Fuck.
The Bad First ‘Cause It Has More Than The Good: I didn’t buy into that martyr bull-crap that Kishi pulled, and the portrayal of Itachi as oh so loyal to Konoha honestly pissed me off because he was always shown to be “right” in his ideals! That’s just glorifying a fucked-up system which wished to eliminate the clan which had helped found that system - if that’s not Uchiha-phobia, I don’t know what is. Even Itachi being a fucked-up, entitled bastard with no purpose other than ruining people’s lives, despite my hatred for those types of characters, would have not hurt my eyes so much to see. He also did not need to torture Sasuke for three days - it’s simply not necessary. Dude, you killed the kid’s family and told him he was nothing to you, what else do you want to do to make him hate you? I understand that Itachi just wanted to project all Sasuke’s rage onto him, but that “I will atone by having my baby brother taint his hands with my blood” bull was shit I can’t really get behind. He was also too much of a pacifist and that suicide shit he pulled at 4? Getting into ANBU at 13? Yes, he’s a prodigy, I get it, but that’s just… not realistic, even for a ninja setting. HOW DO YOU MANAGE TO MURDER YOUR WHOLE CLAN, MOST OF WHOM HAVE MORE EXPERIENCE THAN YOU, IN ONE NIGHT AT 13? That’s just stupid and unrealistic. Boo you, Kishi.
The Good: Itachi really, truly loved Sasuke. That brotherly love was the only bond that ever mattered to Itachi apart from his family. In fact, Sasuke is the only thing that ever even mattered to Itachi after (and excluding their parents, before) the massacre. That scene before the Edo Tensei on Itachi was released actually had me crying because fuck, I stan this lovely, messed-up, broken brotherly bond *messy sobbing*…
His silly tastes (the cat ears, the dango etc.) make him more human in my eyes, though there is not that much I really do like about Itachi, other than his bond with Sasuke. He wasn’t properly fleshed out as a person, and this does not give me much scope to answer what I like about him! I found him quite boring and bland and too martyr-ish at the end of Naruto - Shisui plays the martyr enough, Itachi. CHILL THE FUCK OUT.
tl;dr: IDGAF about canon Itachi but I love Sasuke having a brother who will spoil him rotten and pamper him and literally kill anyone who looks at him wrong… I will actually die for Itachi and Sasuke’s bond…
Favorite moment: Cooking the eggs for Sasuke XD His resolve to make it perfect for his baby bro is so cute!
Idea for a story: Oof… I got nothing here’s something I came up with on the fly
I MEAN! What if Itachi were a double agent loyal to his own clan and the coup, and helped them all escape (excluding Sasuke because they still needed a spy in the village)?
Unpopular opinion: Itachi is terribly written. His morals and ideas fluctuate and he becomes boring and bland at the end. There is no proper development of Itachi at all…
Favorite relationship: Other than Sasuke… I’m gonna say Kisame, because I like their dynamic (don’t ship them though, the age gap is more than uncomfortable). I also like his friendship with Izumi, it’s very cute… though again, I don’t ship it (because ItaDei XD)
Favorite headcanon: Itachi is really, really terrible at math. If you ask him what is 1 + 1, he’ll take five minutes before asking you hopefully, “11?”
You know how in the Chunning Exams arc Naruto and Sakura deepened their existing bonds with certain people and even create new bonds with new characters? While Sasuke slowly but violently drifted away from their circle of influence, going towards what Orochimaru offered?
The Chunning Exams allowed Naruto to confront Neji and his ideals, allowed him to start or further the depth of his bond with Hinata, to create the connection Gaara and him shared, something that would last for life. We have those moments with Shikamaru and Rock Lee, stuff that cemented his place on Konoha, showed us Naruto acting not in a team of three but in a wider range. The first step to become Hokage, not doubt.
It also gave us important moments for Sakura. We got her relationship with Rock Lee, something that started as a joke and turned into to mutual respect and appreciation. We got a development and explanation of her rivalry and friendship with Ino, we got to see Team Asuma reacting to her fight against the Sound and the jounins reacting to her fight with Ino. We got to see moments that meant a lot for her in Team 7 and showed us how much she meant for Naruto, Sasuke and Kakashi.
But Sasuke? Every possible rivalry or connection was given to Naruro or pushed aside. Sasuke was one of the first to challenge Rock Lee and Gaara, but the Rock Lee fight was taken by Gaara and the Gaara fight was taken by Naruto, later on the invasion. Since he was away from the other fights due the cursed mark or his training with Kakashi, he didn't get to see Neji or anyone else fighting. We never saw the Sound ninjas again, which left us with Sasuke only having bonding moments with his team— even those were negative if you think about how Sasuke must have seen most of them as failures. Exactly like Orochimaru had told him, he was not strong enough to either protect his team or defeat the enemy, but Naruto was.
Sakura and Naruto were really the only two who could have kept Sasuke from leaving or brought him back, because to Sasuke's eyes Kakashi had failed to offer Sasuke the power he craves for.
Sasuke didn't get the chance to develop any kind of relationship with anyone else, foreigner or from the Konoha 12. So inevitably when his relationship with Naruto decayed (for many reason like Itachi chasing Naruto and not Sasuke, or Naruto being the one who saved Sakura and defeated Gaara), and when he started seing Sakura as a weak point (in the sense that he realized that listening to her wouldn't give him any type of physical strength), it was obvious they'd fail to give Sasuke a reason to stay with them.
"I remain in perpetual awe when a person is able to remain articulate and express their exact feelings whilst in an emotionally heightened state. It's an extraordinary feat."
i love itachi but not in the way dudebros love him "he's sooooo badass he could beat madara actually 🤓☝️" and not in the way kishimoto wants you to love him "he was a hero who sacrificed everything for his military state 💔" but a secret third way "he was a kind and soft child who hated conflict and violence but was born with a gift for killing so he was exploited by his family and his village from a young age until his eldest daughter syndrome drove him insane"
I think the reason why Naruto fans get so passionate and upset about the series is because of how real it can be. Naruto isn’t about paragon heroes outdoing dastardly villains. It’s about human beings fighting tooth and nail to survive in a world surrounded by death. It’s about broken systems made and perpetuated by broken people.
The Hyuga clan isn’t just antagonistic or pretentious, they practice slavery.
The Uchiha clan weren’t just killed by some raging psychopath, they were systematically massacred.
Itachi isn’t just cruel to Sasuke because he’s a bad brother, he’s cruel because he’d been told time and time again that you can only survive by being cruel and he wants nothing more than for Sasuke to survive.
Nagato isn’t trying to take over the world just for the sake of power, he’s trying to take over the world because it beat him down to the point of believing that the only chance at peace there is is the world being forced into compliance through fear.
Iruka isn’t hard on Naruto just because he’s a strict teacher, he’s hard on Naruto because he knows from experience how unforgiving the world is towards orphans.
Kakashi isn’t just some silly and slightly lazy teacher, he’s a contract killer still grieving his loved ones and struggling to do better without knowing how he’s supposed to.
Sakura isn’t just a fangirl, she’s a normal girl in a very dangerous and abnormal world constantly being made to choose between what she’s supposed to do and what she feels.
Sasuke isn’t just some edgelord, he’s a survivor who lost everything then gets repeatedly told that he has to choose between keeping what he’s gained and doing better than his brother.
Naruto isn’t just trying to be the best Hokage there ever was, he’s trying to prove his worth to a society that abandoned him just for existing and, in a way, confirm his worth to himself.
The Naruto story is about humans trying to force themselves into the role of weapons because that’s what they were told they had to be. It’s a story where everyone is a perpetrator but no one is trying to do wrong. It’s a story where everyone is a victim but no one is a perfect victim.
The world and the characters aren’t simple and trying to simplify them only takes away from them. So of course we get passionate about showing off all the reasons why they shouldn’t be simplified and all of the ways they’re complicated. Of course we get upset when we see others simplifying them or selling certain aspects of their characters short. Of course we get upset when the series itself simplifies them. Of course we get upset when the series chooses to abandon them. Because it not only feels like the characters are giving up, it feels like the series is betraying anyone who chose to get invested in its complexities.
is your comfort character also a sad pretty boy with trauma and questionable morals or are you normal
