ok but consider: they don’t, they just can’t, they try so fucking hard to be there for each other and maybe they spend the first week killing themselves in their grief for the other but they realize they will never heal as long as there is still an open wound.

The first time they see each other after hearing the news they spend hours sobbing into each other on James kitchen floor. But it’s too hard to be around each other after that, James looks into the love of his life’s eyes and wonders where his freckles went before he remembers, Sirius hates James and hates himself for ever calling James his only brother when he was pushing Regulus away. James starts to resent Sirius for the way he leans on Remus, it’s not fair that he has a person to love him through it and James doesn’t, Sirius is mad at James for not doing more to save Regulus. It’s a whole bad situation before they realize that grief makes them ugly people for each other and the best thing they can do is take some time for themselves to heal.

and maybe in a couple months or a year when it doesn’t hurt as much, at least not every second of every day, they’re able to sit in silence on a threadbare couch that used to be hangout home base and exist in the same room together without breaking down. Maybe in a year they can make the tea regulus liked without shattering mugs and they can talk now too but never about him too much

In a truck stop bathroom washing my hands today and 2 boys, looked about 5 and 9, came in with their little sister who looked maybe 2. The following whispered conversation made my entire day

"We have to wait, there's a lady in here!"

"That's not a lady, he has a mustache! We can be in here!"

"Some ladies have mustaches! And she has boobs!"

"Well some guys have boobs! Like Uncle Jake!"

"Uncle Jake is fat!"

At this point I could not contain a chuckle and both whirled around with identical looks of panic on their faces. I smiled and said "it's alright for you guys to be in here so your sister has help, don't worry. And I'm both! That's why I have boobs and a mustache. Some folks are just built that way"

(In unison) "Ooooooh!"

(older boy) "So do you use Sir or Ma'am or both?"

This was in a small town country truck stop and both boys had "Murica" type stuff on and neither of them had any issue at all with these concepts. Their mom approached me while I was in line about 10 minutes later and apologized for them bothering me in the bathroom (they had told her about the interaction) and she and I had a lovely little chat too. I got to introduce her to the term "intersex" and her reply was "I think I've heard of that before! I didn't know that was the word for it. Amazing how many different ways God can make people!"

ok, for those of you who don't know, jk rowljng donated £70k to an organisation of Scottish women who wanted the legal definition of a woman to be based on biological sex alone in the uk. today they had this ruled for in court.

the legal definition of a woman in the uk is now based purely on biological sex, likely preventing trans people from changing their sex on legal documents. we are still apparently protected from discrimination though.

the worst part of this is that news reports have been treating this as a good thing. jk rowling is painted as an amazing person in school assemblies. after doing not only what she does on twitter, but actively funding the discrimination of trans people.
