forget everything that happened in ep 127 for a moment, let’s just think about beauyasha being cute and making each other daisy chains.
beau didn’t know how to make them at first, yasha taught her how, and now they’re just having fun.

I’ve wanted to draw BeauYasha for *a while* now. So this is a quicky dedicated to their date that’s definitely happening next week. (right?? aaa c’mon pls)
beauyasha as Meeting on the Turret Stairs because why not?
you love so fiercely you make me feel stronger you make me feel safe
Self indulgent critical role art moment. Beau and yasha said lesbian rights 💪😔
The amount of lesbians I see say similar shit as misogynistic homophobic men from Reddit shocks me. Like people calling Beau a sexual lesbian stereotype when she’s had sex 3 times in a 1 year span that’s it. Her jokes also aren’t sexual in nature that’s more Jester or Veth and even the flirting she used to do hasn’t really been a thing since like episode like 40 or 50. Beau never even really flirted with Reani, Reani came onto Beau and Beau reciprocated. You need to find out why a woman having sex 3 times in a year, and 3 times for the ENTIRE campaign is problematic to you.
It’s also weird how some people in this community give a fuck what homophobes think, sorry to say this I don’t give a fuck about their opinion about a queer ship. Beau being a young woman who occasionally has sex does not make her sexual it makes her human, Beau just lets us know she enjoys sex which is her right to do so. Beau and Yasha’s relationship isn’t even sexual or even played for jokes as some think. The relationship is awkward because both are in positions they haven’t been in before like how Fjord was always awkward around Jester. Beau is into a widow and probably wants to be as gentle and as delicate as possible the complete opposite of who she is as person. Yasha is into a self loathing woman who she probably doesn’t want her to think she’s her second choice after Zuala. The relationship is a little more complicated then should I sleep with my best friend like other ships thus why they’re so awkward.
I’d prefer it if you didn’t think WLW should be played in one way where the poor lesbian character pines and waits for the love of her straight best friend. You can be upset your ship died and that’s okay, but to sit there and then call the cast homophobic because a lesbian character didn’t try to hook up with a character that up to now is straight is stupid. CR can be criticized but stupid shit like this just makes them and the community as a whole ignore the criticisms because shit like this isn’t valid it’s something lose better would tweet.
thank u so muuuuuch, @thebeaubar
like okay let me get it out so i can stop thinking about it
here are some things i find actually problematic in cr (keep in mind im white european so im not gonna elaborate too much on the racism since i dont wanna overstep) :
beau being a character of color, played by a white actress, with really no ties to any culture or ethnic identity. there was no research or thought put into it at all
same thing with yasha. is her chin tattoo supposed to be native inspired?? her accent???? what is going on
the character art re: skin color and body size.
the dynamic between valeb and nott shifting from mother/son to a weird...nonromance but still hinting at romance...idk its Bad
lack of base rep and/or follow through of mlm relationships
molly being genderfluid but never adressed in the show. i refuse to count him as nb or trans rep
i havent seen much of campaign 1 but from the wiki it seems like most of the characters are word of god confirmed queer, yet all the canon relationships are straight.
the cast ignoring very valid criticisms, only responding to what could be cast away as "drama"
things that just annoy me, personally :
beaus crush on jester being dropped to pursue yasha. it doesnt make sense character wise and feels like they did it just so j could romance f
fjord and jester... in my opinion it wouldnt work if the players werent married. if the show were scripted (or thought out lmao) this wouldnt have happened
cads and fjords connection seemingly being dropped as well. if it was resolved plot-wise by the stone-arc, i didnt get it
how fucking long it takes them to get through plot. holy shit nothing happens ever
see the difference between opinions and real world concerns?
For that people who think Yasha’s chin tattoo is Native Americans inspired google is free use it. I googled Scandinavian face paint and immediately saw multiple different pics with the exact same chin marking as Yasha currently has, so please stop talking about that it’s a shit point. Ashley has said she’s Scandinavian inspired as you can tell by that accent and by the fact that Ashley outright said it.
While we’re at it Beau is a POC, that does not mean that Marisha should appropriate other POC cultures into the character. Wanting her to would be extremely racist, Marisha is a white women I love that Beau is a POC but wanting a white actor to portray a real life culture of a POC in a fantasy game is one of the stupidest things I’ve ever heard. I know some of you think your helping by being critical but really more times then not it seems your the one with genuinely offensive ideas.
As someone who’s trauma has greatly impacted on the way I’ve navigated relationships and love, I deeply respect and appreciate the slow and conscious steps Yasha and Beau are taking before they decide to make this official.
Perhaps someone could read this and think ‘Yeah, it’s not that deep.’ - and Critical Role, with couples in the past, in many cases may have moved more quickly, or with a pace that encouraged conversations that we’re used to seeing in most film and television. But, Beau and Yasha feel more like a book. Or, to take it further, real life.
I mean that in the sense that their entire journey hasn’t been always an outward and clear expression. It’s been the ‘I toss and turn, hoping to hear thunder’. It’s been the way Beau insisted they never speak about Yasha again when she left. It’s been the way Yasha has watched Beau, has seen Beau, has healed Beau. It’s been the way Beau filled a bath to read Yasha’s letter, and cried and sank into it once she was done. We get glimpses into their state of mind, like POV chapters. Beau, in this episode specifically took a very long and sad glance at Yasha when Jester mentioned that Yasha was holding on to Molly’s coat.
The fact that they are taking this so slow is intentional. If we consider Beau’s past, it’s riddled by a lack of a stable foundation. She can’t trust those who were closest to her. They rejected her. She left her first love in a prison cell, and since used intimacy as a no-strings-attached band-aid. Yasha’s past is similar in some respects. Her tribe wanted to kill her and Zuala. Didn’t care for her happiness. She also couldn’t trust those closest to her. They rejected her. She left her first love buried in the wastes of Xhorhas as she ran.
These two, beautiful and broken women find safety and strength in one another. But, they also find a load of fear in what that means. Beau drowning herself was the perfect image of this. She didn’t hop out of the bath and knock on Yasha’s door, because what she read both moved her and terrified her. And those fears take time to process. Yasha revealed to Jester only a few weeks ago that thinking of kissing Beau still makes her feel bad, and she’s probably still dealing with that. This is a realistic pace.
As much as I agree with Cad, when he said ‘patience can curdle into apathy’, I don’t think Beau and Yasha’s journey has become apathetic. Rather, it’s just different, and their patience is necessary. When Beau approaches Yasha next, it can’t just be about the letter. They will also need to have a level of vulnerability that they haven’t shared before. Yasha will need to speak more candidly about Zuala and her process of moving on, and Beau will probably need to speak about the way she’s felt something for Yasha from the moment she saw her.
When that moment happens, it will be wonderful. It will also be earned, and true to these two beautiful people who understand shared trauma, fear and grief. Beau and Yasha work so well because it isn’t just two souls finding one another. It’s because their growth together is intertwined with their individual steps into learning to love and trust again, on levels that go beyond just romance. In the same way that we understand fear, regression or hesitance in individual characters, we also need to respect it in evolving relationships. I appreciate Marisha and Ashley representing that complexity, dedicating to this story, and taking it at the pace that they deem necessary.
I'm actually.... Very Pleased with how Marisha is playing Beau, particularly with her relationships with the rest of the Nein and not just for shipping cause like
there's a significant amount of media (mainstream and otherwise) that tends to play up tropes of wlw characters developing feelings for close friends and then make it unhealthy for the sake of ~drama~ and yes, there are times that these relationships can and do grow into something reciprocal and romantic, but that's the thing; they grow that way
an unfortunate consequence of most mainstream representation of romance in general focusing on the exciting and dramatic parts of relationships (whether that's in the beginning or down the line with some drama) is that we don't often the slow growth of two people together - towards their shared relationship - that actually sustains the romantic base of the relationship
it's that shared investment externalized that makes a long-term relationship last (in a healthy capacity at least, as one part) not whatever internal feelings are present (usually most intense at the beginning)
and it's actually really, really healthy to respond to your feelings not being reciprocated by NAMING them as fleeting, because without any reciprocation, there's nothing to sustain a romantic relationship there, and it is HEALTHY to move on and find happiness elsewhere if someone cannot provide the happiness you're looking for
And yeah, some people can be fulfilled by having romantic feelings for someone and just enjoy their platonic company and never want for anything more, but marisha has clearly told us that beau really, desperately wants to have a meaningful romantic relationship in her life. When Beau said that there was something more meaningful in her feelings for Yasha and that her feelings for jester were temporary and unsustainable, that's not devaluing the feelings she has/had for jester. That's acknowledging that people and relationships change and grow, and that her romantic feelings for jester changed to reflect the lack of reciprocation.
And by elevating her feelings for Yasha - which do seem to be reciprocated - compared to her feelings for jester reflects how her relationship with Yasha is also changing. Her feelings (that she turned away from bc she believed they also weren't reciprocated) are now being fuelled by Yasha's own externalized feelings. They're both putting energy into their growing relationship and directing it towards a lasting romance. It's actually so beautiful to see portrayed cause that's the kind of nuance that gets completely erased in mainstream media and I'm v happy to see this kind of healthy growth ESPECIALLY for queer characters and relationships
vague post time but if you’re part of a ship that regularly calls other ships ‘not gay enough’ and people who don’t ship ur ship ‘heteros’ and when you definitely call the actual other confirmed canon lesbian ship ‘a ship for the straights’ and there’s a long-running history of your fellow shippers sending death threats and being just generally biphobic as fuck up in every tag then maybe when you maintag a Take that posits the idea that the reason your ship is dying is because the fandom is heteronormative and doesn’t know bisexuality exists you shouldn’t really have the balls to tell anyone who responds in the negative that nobody asked for a different opinion as if you all haven’t been collectively shitting on other queer people in order to prop yourselves up as The Only Real Queer Rep Allowed
as a wlw, every time i read 'hur dur we were gaslit hur dur het ship huuur' because the ship you want isn't canon, i lose 5 years of life
“Ugh you all know CR isn’t above criticism right?!” yeah but your criticism is just always stripped down to “The ship I like isn’t happening and here’s why that’s somehow problematic”
The reason you constantly hear the argument “This is THEIR game and their characters” is that your arguments are not actually anything remotely close to valid criticisms of anything. It’s you being disappointed that your own head cannon is not being honored.
I know because when your ship is happening, you aren’t complaining.
