The small touches

There is a special thing that makes the game and the characters feel so much more alive and real to me in both cut scenes and when walking around camp, and that is the small touches.

When watching the characters closely you can see all of these small innocent touches that the characters share, one of my favourites being Hosea kicking John's foot in a camp event, it doesn't add a lot story wise, but it adds that extra piece of humanity that makes them more beliable and gives us a deeper understanding of the characters relations.

When just having saved John, Hosea puts his hand on Javier's shoulder, Javier brushes it off, when just having saved Sean he places his hands on Javier's waist, Javier brushes him off, in a camp event Reverend places his hand on Javier's shoulder, Javier doesn't really get to react more than looking shocked and displeased before Reverend removes it, yet when John places his hand on Javier, he doesn't mind.

Charles is shown to be very drawn away from a lot of characters, directly telling them he doesn't want to talk to them or that silence is better, we don't really see him touch anyone either except when throwing Micah, but when sending the captian off in chapter 6 he places his hand on Arthur's lower back.

Of course we also have Dutch placing his hand on Hosea's during "we made it" speech.

It is just these small things that to me makes the characters alive.

Whenever someone says "anywhere" my mind goes in a circle thinking about them.

Someone anonymously messaged me to tell me that writing about detrans folks makes me a traitor to trans people, because all detrans people want to push conversion therapy on us and forcibly detransition us.

That’s precisely the kind of narrative that ends up pushing detransitioners into the arms of TERFs and the religious far-right.

There’s nothing inherently wrong with detransitioning. Sometimes people realize that transitioning no longer suits them, or never really did. And that’s fine.

When we systematically push them away regardless of their politics, we make people feel like the only places they can get support are among transphobes. That’s not a good thing. Building de/trans solidarity is an critical tool for disarming anti-trans movements.

You ever have your playlist on shuffle then suddenly That's The Way It Is comes on and you just have to sit there for a min and try not to cry?

Tonight, we remember one who lent his enormous talent to telling the story we have all come to love. Hail, the victorious dead!

May the Simbelmynë cover his tomb as it did the tomb of the one he so accurately portrayed.
