BTW i see these posts all the time like "ohhh i dont know what to comment on fics.." and every response is "keysmashes! or hearts!! anything works :3" and thats GREAT!! thats helpful!!
but: consider. if u genuinely like analyzing writing.. do u know ur just allowed to go through and quote your favorite parts and ramble abt what they mean to u and the author will LOSE IT WITH HYPE?
genuinely. i felt SO WEIRD the first time i did it.. but like. holy shit authors love it. its crack for authors. the first time i did it, it was on a fic that hadnt updated in half a year, give or take, and the author made 3 updates that month BECAUSE OF MY COMMENT.
LIKE. as an author every comment is INCREDIBLE!!! but also, dont feel like your comment has to be short or otherwise ur invasive or smth!! authors ADORE long comments more than ANYTHING.
FRIENDLY REMINDER THAT TRUMP DID NOT SAVE TIKTOK!! THIS WAS ALL A STUNT TO MAKE HIM LOOK GOOD!!
PAY ATTENTION TO WHATEVER HAPPENS NEXT!!
the thing about ao no flag that's hitting me so hard is that, on the surface, it's a romance manga. the whole concept is that this girl is in love with the main characters childhood friend. and then the main character gets feelings for her. and then all the while, the childhood friend has been having his own romantic feelings for the main character.
but that's just the surface. in actuality, the manga is mainly about friendship, about the who's and the hows and the assumptions that come with it.
can a boy and girl be close friends? can I stay friends with the person I love, even though I'll never tell them? can i stay friends with someone whos confessed to me? can I be friends with someone who only thinks of me as a romantic option? can I care deeply about more than one person? do I have to care about my significant other more than my friends? can I be friends with the one I love even though I know my presence just causes them pain?
can we still be best friends, after all that's happened?
and that's the climax of it all, isn't it? not the romance, but the friendship.
"I dont know what's going to happen in the future, but I do know that I care about you, and I want you by my side, and even if our feelings dont exactly match here in this moment, I love you, I love you, I love you."
Another day in the lab
Decided to switch to Ellipsus last night half way through a document since I had just heard so much good stuff about it. I don't think it's right for me gang. Maybe I'm just stupid, but the interface immediately seemed a lot more complicated than Google docs which I didn't like. I guess it's cool that you can change the color of the background to green or beige.
However, rn I'm in the hot tub and I was getting some inspiration to write so I opened up Ellipsus...only to find my work missing. The only "draft" that was shown was the welcome page. Guys I'm gonna be so missed if I go upstairs to my computer and all my work is missing. Like I'm actually scared. If it's gone I'll probably just forget about my account and go back to docs. I'm sure it works well for other people, especially those who write collaboratively, but for me it's kind of just a worse version of Google docs. The only benefit I could really see was that it looked nicer.
Maybe I'm just doing it wrong. Does it not have an auto-save feature?? Anyway, thanks for listening to my yap.
NOO SOMEONE SAVE MY BOY :'(

Punctuating Dialogue
✧
➸ “This is a sentence.”
➸ “This is a sentence with a dialogue tag at the end,” she said.
➸ “This,” he said, “is a sentence split by a dialogue tag.”
➸ “This is a sentence,” she said. “This is a new sentence. New sentences are capitalized.”
➸ “This is a sentence followed by an action.” He stood. “They are separate sentences because he did not speak by standing.”
➸ She said, “Use a comma to introduce dialogue. The quote is capitalized when the dialogue tag is at the beginning.”
➸ “Use a comma when a dialogue tag follows a quote,” he said.
“Unless there is a question mark?” she asked.
“Or an exclamation point!” he answered. “The dialogue tag still remains uncapitalized because it’s not truly the end of the sentence.”
➸ “Periods and commas should be inside closing quotations.”
➸ “Hey!” she shouted, “Sometimes exclamation points are inside quotations.”
However, if it’s not dialogue exclamation points can also be “outside”!
➸ “Does this apply to question marks too?” he asked.
If it’s not dialogue, can question marks be “outside”? (Yes, they can.)
➸ “This applies to dashes too. Inside quotations dashes typically express—“
“Interruption” — but there are situations dashes may be outside.
➸ “You’ll notice that exclamation marks, question marks, and dashes do not have a comma after them. Ellipses don’t have a comma after them either…” she said.
➸ “My teacher said, ‘Use single quotation marks when quoting within dialogue.’”
➸ “Use paragraph breaks to indicate a new speaker,” he said.
“The readers will know it’s someone else speaking.”
➸ “If it’s the same speaker but different paragraph, keep the closing quotation off.
“This shows it’s the same character continuing to speak.”
