Why Are You Not Working In An Art Related Capacity?!?!?!

Why are you not working in an art related capacity?!?!?!

I think I got this note a million years ago, but I'm gonna answer it NOW~

multiple reasons-

a- I may be slightly awesome at art but I am a hot mess in every other possible way

b- ways that affect my ability to properly network and manipulate the necessary channels to get real, regular work as an artist

c- this isn't true much but has been occassionally in the past and is currently true: I have a job where I make more money than I would drawing. And I like money. A lot. Money is awesome.

Oh man so I don't pay much attention to top 40 so it took me forever to discover that I... LOVE... Katy Perry's style. Her and Lady Gaga THERE I SAID IT. It just makes me so happy that they like to be so so weird. Anyways just watched KP's new video and am going nuts over her outfits, found a blog posting of photos from one of the people who worked on the wigs augh omg, omg clothes, etc

...I'm a little mad cos recently I doodled a new character that looks WAY too much like Satyr!Katy but she looks so awesome that augh its hard to stay mad when that sort of thing happens if its awesome so brb I have to go draw 10 pages of clothes in my sketchbook now

Spent Months On This Wig... Made From A 24" Blonde Ebay Lacefront, Three Packs Of 35" Weft Extensions

Spent months on this wig... made from a 24" blonde ebay lacefront, three packs of 35" weft extensions from epic cosplay (two platinum blonde and one peach blonde), and some wefts handmade from kanekalon braiding hair. Between work and school and burning out over and over all of my projects take a long time and most don't get completed :( BUT I'm almost done with this baby and I'm wearing him to dragoncon yay I made a highlight on my profile of my (mis)adventures in dyeing it for anyone curious about the custom colors. I airbrushed the ends with a little bit of pink and purple, which I am happy with for small areas. I wouldn't airbrush a full wig because it changes the texture of the hair and I plan on wearing a white shirt with this because I'm a crazy person. Dye isn't 100% transfer proof but it's close and keeps the hair washable. Nitpicking the hairline right now (needs more sideburns) and then I plan to make a ponytail as fluffy and massive as I can muster! The fun part is almost heeeere!!!!

I Dug Into My Hoard Of Cheap Wigs And Cheap Kanekalon For Styling Practice And I'm Pretty Happy With

I dug into my hoard of cheap wigs and cheap kanekalon for styling practice and I'm pretty happy with the result. It definitely confirmed in my mind the value of starting with higher quality wig and hair fiber though! The black fiber absolutely refused to hold a curl. I want to try another fluffy shoujo style again soon. Its very tedious work, I tied in about 3 packs of extra long jumbo braid, but also calming, so its been the only type of crafting I've been able to manage lately. Been slowly stumbling my way out of a 6month+ funk due to cross country move and difficulty adjusting despite having moved a gazillion times in my life... I think Im pretty good at moving but that doesn't mean its actually easy :\ I'm doing much better but better =/= good. Still working on that. https://www.instagram.com/p/Bwr8nXkDxtL/?utm_source=ig_tumblr_share&igshid=p70ktgej1d86

Can you please have an about page somwhere? It's just that I'm nosy and I'd like to know things. For example, how old are you? Do you have a day job? Do you draw a comic or just random art things? (Both are good). I'm only interested because you're art's so pwetty :3, so please take this comment/these questions in the least creepy way possible!

I'm so comfortable under my internet rock! A long time ago I used to be super open about my life but I hate to admit it was cos my life was boring as hell. It hasn't been boring in a looong time... but its not in a fun way that I want to share... Hmm. I'm 26. I don't draw random art things but I don't draw a comic either (though I have a story I am writing to be a comic, the rest of my stories aren't, my ideas for their formats vary). I am... looking for a day job AHAHaha man I am such a starving artist cliche right now.

IS THIS SATISFACTORY cos that's all you're getting :)

Vigilante Chic - Street Ninja By QuantumQstar DERP Well, Since I Am Entirely Out Of Artfuel For A While

vigilante chic - street ninja by quantumQstar DERP well, since I am entirely out of artfuel for a while now (and I feel like I have been running on fumes all year anyway afkjadfksdf no joke! whenever I try my mind goes how can you draw at a time like this and I can't ignore it anymore, seriously, I'm trying seriously so hard not to turn this tumblr into bitching and flailing about artblock but it is so hard you guys, so hard.), posting to an art blog is uh... tricky?

I was one of those people who had heard of polyvore but had no idea what it actually was and so when I found out I was just HOLY SHIT ITS LIKE THIS SITE WAS MADE FOR ME. So I went nuts and made a bunch of outfits cos that's what I do. Godammit I love clothes.

And of course I wanted to post to be like oh hey, worldbuilding wednesday, I really like it so I would uh, encourage some asks, yes.

ww!

alexds1 answered your question: What kind of things inspire you to worldbuild?

Honestly? I just feel like it is the default form of my imagination. My mind just automatically goes to possible alternate realities and worlds and timelines what-if cause/effect stuff. It happens a lot when I think about my own life too which is a problem :| I have trouble existing in the present...

Thank you for being honest about how your college life killed your art. I've completely stopped working on my art. I only doodle at work now. Your art has always inspired me and it's good to know that I'm not alone in feeling stressed anytime I want to sit down and finish something more than a doodle. Someday I will draw again, or maybe I won't but at least I won't feel the same level of shame & betrayal to my supporters anymore. I gotta heal up and find my motivation again, my reason for art.

I had an old post talking a bit about how much I hated art school… heh. I KNOW YOUR PAIN THOUGH. I UNDERSTAND. I have SO much unfinished art that I think could be really great but I just... can't. I've always avoided persuing art jobs cos it's hard enough for me to draw the stuff I *like*. I see how much even my most talented and well-connected artist friends struggle and they actually love what they do and I'm just like nope. Not gonna.

I'll be real with you, this is gonna freak some people out but I don't love drawing. I hate drawing comics because it is too much damn drawing, and discovered very early that I could never be an animator despite how much I love it because the thought of drawing that much fills me with existential horror. I love CREATING. Drawing is just the best way to get my ideas out. I was driven to draw well so I could convey my ideas clearly. I actually enjoy making stuff so much more, but crafts and fabricating is EXEPENSIVE and drawing is practically free. Making things requires tools and workspace, drawing at the minimum requires a pen and paper and you can do it anywhere. So basically 99% of what I draw is stuff I want to make but can rarely afford to :C My dream is to someday have a props/costumes shop where I just make so much cool shit (for example dyeing and styling wigs with weird colors and crazy anime styles is SO much fun omg- PLUS I'm currently obsessed with the idea of making glowing fiber optic wigs but once I calculated how much it would cost... uh. Augh. Still totally gonna make it happen eventually though). That's why I care about practical costume design, when I'm drawing clothes I've pretty much already drafted the patterns in my head and have chosen the fabrics, etc. I make decent money right now so that's actually what I'm working toward and yes holy cow it costs SO much. And next on my to-get list is a high quality sewing machine I can feel my bank account crying already :C

UM SO my theory is sometimes its possible that the thing you struggle to do is actually tangential to the thing you REALLY love and that's why it can be difficult and unsatisfying, despite seeming like its something you "should" love. I hope you can find that thing. I only just realized this about myself recently. And even if that's not true for you, at some point you may end up in a better headspace and find joy in it again, because if you did once, why not again? I can understand the guilt but just remember that art is a gift, given freely *when you can afford to*, and you don't owe anyone gifts.
