Что-то такое, что не могли найти врачи, а потом появился лис, и выяснилось, что мы все умрём, если не изгоним его из меня, — усмехаясь, лепечет Стайлз и застёгивается. Он уже полчаса вот так летает по комнате, собирая бумажки и вещи. — Дитон тебе в этом не поможет, Стайлз, — твёрже повторяет Дерек. До этого он чуть ли не шептал, говоря настолько мягко, что стая бы не поверила в это. — Да сядь же ты! — Ну чего ты так завёлся? — Неловко переминаясь с ноги на ногу, Стилински всё же садится на край кровати.

И выдыхает в тот момент, когда Дерек садится перед ним на колени. Только не это. Только не этот взгляд.

— Это Ногицунэ. Ты разве не понимаешь? Нам нужно поскорее решить этот вопрос! В прошлый раз мы чуть не погибли и… — Нет. Это ты не понимаешь. Стайлз. — Не говори так. Не говори этого, — на лице Стайлза тут же появляется отчаяние. Он пихает Дерека, пытается, чтобы тот потерял равновесие, но Хейл остаётся на месте. — Ты не один. Поэтому тебе не нужно убегать. — Уйди. Уходи. И что мне делать? Даже ты мне не веришь! Стайлз чуть ли не вопит, а сердце Дерека разрывается на куски в ту же секунду, как он произносит болезненное: — Ты болен! И это не Ногицунэ. У тебя на столе прямо сейчас лежат снимки. Врачи нашли опухоль, и ты уже битый час носишься по комнате, как будто не замечаешь этого!

Стайлз смотрит на Дерека, как на предателя. Как на того, кто разрушил единственную ступеньку, что осталась на маленькой лестнице.

— Нет. — Да, — выдыхает Хейл, наклоняясь к Стайлзу, утыкаясь ему в живот и кое-как сдерживая слёзы. — Прости… Но да.

Всё, что остаётся Стайлзу, это отвести взгляд в сторону, упираясь им в стенку.
